That is an oversimplification. I don't recall companies pushing hairy legs and armpits for women and long hair on men as being sexy. I don't recall companies pushing tattoos as something sexy. Young people often set those trends and the marketing follows or doesn't. I don't recall companies pushing waxing all over for men and women as sexy or men having to be buff. The bright colors for dying hair, again the young, then the marketing. The young often set the trend and the marketing follows. The older people have to decide if they wish to follow those trends and which of those trends make them look silly. Men and womens fashion is mostly driven by marketing first and is generally aimed toward the young, and again the older people have to decide what works for them or makes them look silly. It is way more complicated than capitalism.
