It is amazing when you think of all of the people, from the massacre of Native Americans, slavery, and into the present, who have suffered or died in this country due to nothing more than the greed of a relatively few people. A despicable history for a country that loves to tout it's own greatness. ...

@Killtheskyfairy Agreed, but I don't see these other countries continuously calling themselves the greatest country in the history of the world. We are not even top ten.

@StarvingArtist There have only been a couple of places I have been that I really didn't enjoy, and that was Phoenix and North Dakota. Phoenix was just to shiny and new. I like the older cities East of the Mississippi. North Dakota should be gifted to Canada, but they would probably regift it. I lived in Taos in the 90's other than that year in Lawton. (a long story), and i really did love it there. I also really loved the Black Hills in South Dakota. Like you I like a lot of places for different reasons. I love New Orleans too. The only places I have been out of country were Juarez (I lived in El Paso), Matamoras, Mexico, and the Canadian side of Niagra Falls.

@StarvingArtist Lawton is also an Army town, and is a very racist and homophobic redneck town. The weird thing is a lot of talented musicians and painters have come out of that town. I have never figured that one out. When I was growing up we spent a lot of time in Wichita Falls, Tx (divorce) and they had a great jazz community there. My stepfather was a trumpet player. You never know with some places. I have travelled most of the country and some towns are very surprising.

@StarvingArtist Wimberley is 50/50, so it says on it's website. With a population of just under three thousand none really talked about the election in 16. It would have ended friendships for sure. I found it kind of amazing. I know a handful of people with whom I can talk politics or religion. Our guitar player is way left and a nonbeliever as is my brother who fronts the band. Austin is very liberal and as it has become very expensive to live there, more people are moving to the small towns surrounding Austin, so they have become more liberal over the last decade or so.

Sticks48 replies on Aug 30, 2019:
They are very talented and they really listen to what is going on all around them. Listening may be the most important thing we do in a band. There are bands who are tight because they will play the song exactly the same every night (The Eagles, Toto, Steely Dan). You really don't have to listen as much. That ain't the Neville Brothers. We have room to play with a lot of our songs from night to night, so you really have to pay attention. It is more fun that way.

Moses is lost in the Sinai
PontifexMarximus comments on Aug 27, 2019:
Golda Meir: Let me tell you something that we Israelis have against Moses. For 40 years he dragged us through the desert in order to bring us to the one spot in the Middle East that has no oil!
Sticks48 replies on Aug 28, 2019:
I wondered about that one back in my 20's. I always thought the chosen people would have chosen a place with a whole lot of oil.
A little update to anyone that might still be interested.

@MizJ I am not saying it doesn't exist, but it is changing in politics. Nineteen black women were elected in Houston to judgeships, and one hundred seventeen women were elected to the US House. lf it hadn't been rigged, Georgia would have elected its first female Governor. In politics it is changing.

I don't believe this will hurt her in the future if she is the nominee, and trump tries to use it again. I think she will stand up to him. Clinton felt she made a mistake by not doing so. Damn I hope I am right. :)

@citronella I'm still an extrovert. I will talk to strangers or crack a joke in an elevator. For all of my adult life, when single, I would go out almost every night I wasn't playing. I always loved bars. Being a fulltime musician worked out well for me. In the last few months I have really gotten comfortable, in fact looking forward to being at home alone. I think a lot of the going out was about being afraid I would miss something. Who the hell has relationship skills? It's a crapshoot. You get lucky or you don't with the relationship thing. Are you a recluse? If you don't mind my asking.
