A cornerstone of the right wing politician who just got elected Premier in my province was reintroducing $1 beer. BUCK A BEER was his campaign slogan, apparently there is a large enough segment of the citizenry who are willing to drink cheap swill to get a jerk elected to public office.
Surfpirate replies on Dec 5, 2018:
@VAL3941 It was a smooth political trick, not only did he not pass a law making beer $1 per can but he only changed an existing law that set the minimum price a can of beer could be lawfully sold for, a bit lower to a dollar. A couple of breweries put out a limited run of beer piss as a campaign support ploy but that was it, dumb and dumber.

I lived in Ecuador for more than a year, 3 months of it in Cuenca and when they say the land of eternal spring they mean early spring, with a lot of rain even for a guy who lived for 4 years on Vancouver Island. Vilcabamba at the lower elevation of 4500 ASL was more comfortable but in any case I would suggest you learn at least basic Spanish before attempting Ecuador where not many people speak English. Beautiful country and you can have everything from beautiful beaches to soaring mountains to jungles as your home, all within a days drive.

The tequila kicked in about halfway through the craft market so I escorted my wife home and tucked her in. Just remember, Thomas Jefferson believed that the Constitution should be rewritten every 20 years so that past generations couldn't hold back future ones.
Surfpirate replies on Nov 21, 2018:
Certainly amendments need to be made in order to keep pace with progress but referencing Moses as a basis for the US Constitution is regressive not progressive. Hammurabi would be a better basis for the document's lawgiver source.

Yea!.. Dreams are dreams, I think its better to avoid the connection to the real life.. Just send that blond chick over to me on my next dream ..LOL
Surfpirate replies on Nov 21, 2018:
I've had dreams that seem to portend future events but that can just be a case of fitting the dream to the reality but I do think our subconscious manifests itself in our dreams which is a psychological phenomena.

Sort of your brain saying "beware the day!". I can't shake every bit of superstition I grew up with and I'm ok with that. Especially with a dream hangover.

Surfpirate replies on Nov 21, 2018:
@bigpawbullets The MEP project manager I worked with in Bermuda had just come off a hotel project in Saudi Arabia where he had run afoul of a corrupt government manager and when he wouldn't play ball the police snatched him from his hotel room. Roy was missing in action for 2 weeks, first he was bounced around to several police stations, then shipped out to the desert at an outdoor prison before finally being released on the side of the highway in the middle of the night when his company refused to give up on him. He hitchhiked back to his hotel and got the hell out of there.

@bigpawbullets I've done it a couple of times and the flavour is amazing plus the bird is really moist because the immersion in the hot peanut oil seals in all the juices. You can save the oil if you freeze it and use it to do the other half at Xmas. Do this outside, with a special turkey fryer that you can buy at Harbor Freight or even Walmart. Keep the lid handy and do not walk away while cooking, things can south very quickly if you do not pay attention but it really is a safe and fast way to cook a turkey. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hznx7Ky5EUI

@Tommy19 It's an old knee injury, I was carrying a sheet of plywood on a roof back in the 90's and a gust of wind blew me and the plywood off the roof like a kite. I cleared the fence below me but my kneecap was shifted to side of my leg, the hospital was just around the corner so they shifted it back, did that ever hurt but the scarring gives me trouble in spite of yoga and tai chi. I sustained a spinal cord injury a few years ago as well which left my leg numb but I am on new meds that have really helped. What a drag it is getting old, dying young and leaving a good looking corpse is just a faded memory. lol

Yup. The season we stay in and hibernate while working on our yoga bodies. We emerge in a bikini in the spring! There is no other way to live through it. The further north you live, the better the winter exercise routine!
Surfpirate replies on Nov 20, 2018:
There is an alternative way to live through it, it's my wife's birthday on the weekend and we are flying off to Mexico for a week for a quickie getaway at a bargain basement price because it's the shoulder season. We will hang out with some friends from our days in Ecuador and then come back to face winter's wrath, albeit a winter shortened by a week. I expect we will do it again in late March or early April and take the edge off of the tail end of winter, anything that shortens the season of winter is a good thing.

Surfpirate replies on Nov 19, 2018:
@Jolanta I suppose it has a lot to do with the age old conflict between the smart people realizing that if we all work together and treat each other decently and fairly then everyone will be better off compared to the knuckle dragging bully who sees that he can get what he wants by force which is good for him but bad for everybody else. Having a well reasoned argument is a great thing but unless you are prepared to back it up with force there will always be those who will insist upon testing your resolve. It probably didn't help that I tended to live on both sides of the tracks and enjoyed both lifestyles; I never had my nose broken by anyone from the right side of the tracks.
