About 5 years ago, I opened myself up to being wrong, and discovered that I was.

Fake it till you make it,” is the mantra of many religious followers, but it made me miserable. I beat myself up over my doubt for years. I thought, maybe if I tried more, prayed more, or had more belief, whatever that meant, I could break through the chains of doubt into the freedom of faith. For most of my life, I've embraced what was taught to me at an early age, and recited the mantra "God said it, I believe it, that settles it". What I slowly discovered was that religion doesn’t free thought, or settle doubt. If anything religion binds truth, and encapsulates it by preventing peer review and scrutiny from loosening the binds of dogmatic law.
