In some ways yes. I don't care about the newest phone that comes out. I just want mine to work! I don't care about the newest do-dads that come out. Most americans have too much crap! A lot if it isn't used or is thrown away within 6 months! We live in a throw away society. We have planned and ...

@GreatNani I get you there. A guy around here still does appliance repair. MOST of the time he can't get parts! I bought a mini deep freeze a couple years ago (1.6 cu/ft). Stopped working all of a sudden (no spoiled food, I just had ice cubes in there. lol I asked the applance guy if he could fix or was worth fixing. He asked what was going on, and I said the compressor itself isn't turning on. He said that unless there is a broken wire, don't bother. Just like with window air conditioners, they don't have service ports. You might be able to get a kit to tap into it if it needs a charge. But almost everything is designed to fail, and can't be repaired. There used to be a TV repair shop here when I was young. Same deal. Usually couldn't get parts. My folks bought me a SNES when I was young for my birthday. Worked completely fine until about a year ago (I think it was 1991 when I got it). Only reason it doesn't? One of my cats knocked it off the entertainment stand and the power connector broke. Sad to see that we live in a throw away society.
I am trying to live a minimalist life.

TheGreatShadow replies on Sep 2, 2018:
Donating is good. However, Goodwill isn't a non-profit organization. I get that you are trying to help someone get something on the cheap you can't use. But on a positive note, they DO encourage people with disabilities (and maybe a criminal record) to work there. But they pay $1 over min wage.

@AncientNight What I was trying to say is my dad is stuck in the 60's. lol My mom gets Social Security. I heard there were drastic cuts from this administration so my mom never told me what she currently gets. Before said cuts, she was getting $666/mo. That's not even $4.17/hr! My dad never told me what he gets. Speaking of disability, the people that really need it have a hard time getting it. Some people that absolutely don't, get it. My old roomate got $600/mo AND worked a 40+ hour work week @$15.50 hr! No reason why he should get it. A guy once told me that he gets a "stupid check". He also never reported his earnings. A gal I know sprained her wrist. She got it. I have a broken leg, two skull fractures, two broken eye sockets, and a back with a 20# weight restriction. Not a hell of a lot of jobs I can physically do. Repetitive bending and twisting will throw it out. Had back surgery in 2013, and relapsed again last November (now scar tissue formed and I have arthritis). I was denied disability twice! VR tried to help me get a job. An employer can't ask if you have any medical problems. They can ask if you can preform the job with reasonable accomidation. I just don't understand how some get it easy, and others don't. Plus it'd be damn hard to live on! Out of 6 people I know that get it, only two deserve it. One was born with bad legs and has had crutches all his life. Another is a friend that got wounded 3 times in Iraq and Afghanistan. The last time an IED went off and he got shrapnel in his skull! He wanted to go back for a 4th tour, but they wouldn't let him for medical reasons. HOWEVER, he was denied disability TWICE! The third time he had to go to court. He should have immediately gotten it!
So glad he's dead!

@MiltsterD And a lot of the stuff they teach has little/nothing to do with your profession. Even if so, they teach the textbook way. You get your first job after college, and they laugh at you about how you do things. I had a class in college called Interpersonal Relationships. Basically paid for a class that was an adult version of show and tell! Best money I ever spent (not). Just because you have a degree, and say you are smart is like saying "this guy is an idiot because they have a Southern accent". The same goes for saying "this person is a genius because they have a British accent". IQ tests are BS as well.

TheGreatShadow replies on Aug 31, 2018:
@mordant Could be. I have a friend that pays something like $800/mo for child support. If that is true, take that times 6! Even if one or two are deadbeats, and can't won't pay, or have a low paying income, still a lot. One of the biggest costs of living is housing and electricity. I had a roommate that moved out not that long ago. I charged him $100/mo plus half the utilities (my land tax is less that $40/mo). My electric went up slightly, but he was paying half, and overall still cheaper. The more ways you can split a bill is if you get more roommates. I'm pretty sure she might want another kid, and that would probably not have to make her work at all. This guy probably has money, and I know she is not on birth controll.

Speaking of strippers, I have a funny story. When I was in college we would have a "study session" every Thursday night at a strip club. I feel like a perv going into those place, but when a dozen or so of your buddies want to go, I'd give in. Anywho, one night my old roommate got a private dance. He for some reason zoned off. She yelled "PAY ATTENTION TO ME". I immediately said "he's gay". All of my friends laughed as well as some others. He said "I'm not gay". She replied "I THINK YOU ARE" and stormed off. He didn't talk to me for about 3 days! Another funny story is one time at the same place a friend of mine ran off to the bathroom. I had to go after a while and he was just standing in there. He was in there for minutes. I asked what was wrong. He said he went to HS with her and didn't like her. I know this isn't about a gift, but when am I ever going to get the chance to tell the stripper stories again?

TheGreatShadow replies on Aug 31, 2018:
It's not the age thing that bothers me much. My best friends dad and his wife were I think 12 years apart. Still married and in love till the day he died. She was very bummed out for a long time. Yes every couple has had some type of disagreement at some point and time. She just recently started dating. I don't think she is still completely over his death, but moving on. She would always post pictures of him on FB. After maybe a year or two she started to take up kick boxing. Probably to get her mind off of her loss. Then maybe a year later started dating. On a side note, a girl I worked with started hitting on me. We became FB friends. Turns out she is a guy (didn't look like one). That made things very weird for me at work. I was offered a manager position at another company. The hiring manager said that I could not become friends with anyone at work. I had two long-time friends that worked there. I asked if I could still hang out with them. She said yes. I thought that was odd, but she said that the reason is if you are friends, you might want them to cover a shift, and they don't show up. I turned down the position due to low pay. Oh, and I'd be on call for barely above minimum wage.
I would put this under the toxic relationship status.

If she has six children from six different fathers, then her boss is just another person who is using her. If she can't see the pattern by now, you can't make her see it.
TheGreatShadow replies on Aug 31, 2018:
It could be that she is using him as well. Maybe she wants to get pregs again and get more child support? She has custody of her kids. I could not imagine having to deal with that many kids every day! If they get in a fight, he might fire her. Could this turn out to be the real life version of As The World Turns?

I'll be at level 8 for quite some time. I do expect toi move from 8.2 to 8.3 within the next month though. Still, when I reached level 8, in the notification there was a link to get a free Agnostics.com T-shirt. I also unexpectedly also got a free Agnostics.com pen.

It took quite a while to get fro lvl 7 to lvl 7.1. Might not get to 8 in a month. I am however on here too many hours in a day for reasonable explanation. lol BTW I heard you might not get the pen.

How do you deal with back pain?
BeccaVa comments on Aug 31, 2018:
It sounds like you may want to look for a good neurosurgeon. But, I can’t emphasize enough you need to do your homework on a physician before you let him cut you. I agree Chiropractic might not be the best option. I put it in the same category as acupuncture
TheGreatShadow replies on Aug 31, 2018:
I think you might be right about the neurosurgeon. However, that's not the type of doctor you can just get an appointment. I had to have a pain specialist refer me to a spine surgeon. Plus it about $$$. If I get referred by another doctor, the closest would be at least 80 miles away. Some chiropractors can do good for a legitimate neck or back problem (my sister is one). Some also do acupuncture. The biggest thing I have with them is the homeopathic shit they sell. Expensive, and not one has ever worked for me! Give me a placibo. Works the same.

I do not believe in chiropractors and will not go to one. I've taken friends to chiropractor appointments and they felt worse afterwards. My daughter was having trouble with her neck, went to a chiropractor for the first time and got 'horse tail' which is a shredding of the nerve endings, very ...
TheGreatShadow replies on Aug 31, 2018:
I feel your pain! Most people that don't have nerve damage don't understand how painful it is! I have a broken leg that required a shim (never acted up after the surgery), dislocated ribs (not plesent), have two scull fractures, and two broken eye sockets. NOTHING is as painful as nerve damage! Unfortunately I can't pay to go to the doctor much anymore. Even with insurance. It's sad when people can't afford to take care of their own health! I've gotten several different medical opinions. One doctor literally laughed at another when I told her what she put me on. Won't work for my injury. There is very limited work I can do with my restriction. I don't want to go through another back surgery. It cost 15K, and I have probably close to 30K in medical bills. I completely understand you. I have tried Kratom. It somewhat helps. It's not a narcotic, but works on the same receptors. It's like $40/day for it to work. I've even thought about seeing a hypnotist. It's $250 a session, said it might take 3 sessions. Insurance won't cover a penny! Also the x-rays were $700. The specialist didn't even look at them! How do I know? He told me!

Be more like the UK where you need to have an officer come in your house and verify that you have a proper gun safe. One is for the firearm, other is for ammo (can't be in the same safe). Lots of scandinavian countries require a mental exam. If all I mentioned went into law today, we would not ...
TheGreatShadow replies on Aug 30, 2018:
@educatedredneck That's not the main focus. I'm more worried about people with mental instability, or people that don't know how to RESPECT a firearm. @HippieChick58 Thanks for the reply! If/when I move back to River City, I'll check it out! Need to wait for FASFA to go through so I can get my second degree from MCC. Great idea. I think you really need to get to know someone in person before you start to date, and I think less than 1% of this online dating crap actually works. You might talk for months or weeks onilne, then you meet them. Not exactaly the person they claimed to be. OT at these meetings do we meet once a week to compare clothes? Learn silly songs? Listen to some important sounding dead language like Latin? Those are jokes. Seriously, seems like a good option. In a village of 600 people, I have almost 0% chance of meeting a girlfriend. Kind of considered the bane of society around here. Worst case, I might go there and have a terrible time wasting only, well, time. Hell, even if I just meet a friend, that'd be cool! Any friend I had when I lived there I no longer talked to. Lived there about 10 years ago, and over time you just loose contact with people. Gotta start anew and find some new friends for starters.
