The stock market is a good indicator of how positively or negatively, rich people feel about investing in companies, compared to other forms of investment, like bonds or CDs, real estate, etc., nothing else. It says nothing about how the general economy is working out, or not working out, for average people, esp. workers, and small businesses.

TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 16, 2022:
Very impressive that you survived and recovered. Happy you are alive and hanging in there, hope you have many more good years. A male friend of mine survived a bypass of five arteries, not just four, how he made it, I will never know, but I saw him before he went for the surgery and he was in pretty bad shape, very poor color and a gray face. I had no doubt and so did he, that he would die soon without the surgery, so he had nothing to lose. He has other issues now, early Parkinson's and his longtime chronic severe depression, but he's still here and kicking. I guess that last part, for him and you, is what really matters...

How the Democrats Messed Up. What They Can Do Now. | Ted Rall's Rallblog
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 15, 2022:
Ted Rall is one of my fav political cartoonists, because he tells the harsh truth, and with the kind of genuine rage and anger I feel about our system here. But you can bet the house on it that all of his suggestions will be dutifully ignored, because the DNC only cares about the corporate campaign cash and their donor class, not about getting anything done for the voters or their base, or even about winning elections. Only suckers still believe they care about winning more than their campaign money, their congressional pensions, and their place in the revolving door system between congress and careers later as lobbyists or corporate jobs after they leave office, all of which they can look forward to whether they are in control of DC or not. It's actually easier for them if they are out of power, because the perks mentioned above keep coming for them, and all they need to do is complain about the Repubs, with no pressure on the Dems to deliver or produce anything for the voters.

So those who cannot understand or appreciate the frequent irony in life are asleep while awake, or just not paying attention, unless they are just too fucking stupid to even get the concept in the first place... They are also unlikely to be able to understand humor, unless it is the most simple and base forms of it.

Are women really after money in a relationship than true love please let me know......
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 11, 2022:
In my experience, usually not. The problem I run into most often these days with online dating, that is related somewhat to this, is that most women who are college-educated and white collar professionals themselves, will not date a man who is not also a so-called "successful professional" man, not so much because he may not have a high income or be financially secure and comfortable, but because he does not have enough of a high status career to brag about or show off to her friends and family, so the woman won't date a man like that because it would be embarrassing to her, even if he is just as intelligent and educated as her, and has the same money available as her for travel, entertainment, dining out, etc. It's all about status and social class.
Why are women afraid to breakup in a relationship than men
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 11, 2022:
In my experience, most of them have no problem breaking up with men, more often the problem is doing it with some class and kindness, rather than being callous and hurtful or dishonest about it.

Discussing the prospect for civil war,.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 6, 2022:
What efforts by the Dems to address the class war waged by the wealthy? You give that corrupt, corporate run party way too much credit. You must have slept thru the DLC years and the three decades since Bill Clinton started the neoliberal new Dem Party. The reason the Repubs have been winning and that we got Trump was the betrayal of the working class for decades by the Dems. And they are going to lose big time on Tue., and deservedly so, because too many people have caught on to their bullshit game and will either not vote or vote Repub, just to express their reactionary hate and fears of anyone different than them, since they know neither party gives a rat's ass about their economic problems.

Kroger to pay $180K for firing Christians who wouldn't wear heart symbol
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 5, 2022:
As about any person who has watched the movie Office Space knows, employers shouldn't be requiring their employees to wear stupid buttons or flair on the job just to promote some corporate image. An employee name tag, sure, just so customers know the person actually works there and who they should blame for bad service, but beyond that, required buttons or tags for employees are bullshit, and companies with strong unions don't get away with that shit, only the exploitive, lower wage employers, it seems, these days.

I never got into that show too much, as the characters were generally very unlikeable people. Very selfish, often abrasive, not very honest, etc. Not at all the sort of people I would choose or have as friends, so why watch them? Very little kindness was ever practiced on that show. Seemed like everybody's main motivation was to either get ahead of others or get one over on somebody else. I have never been interested in doing that to or with other people in my life. Maybe I just have the wrong mindset for being an American or a person living in a capitalist society? TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 1, 2022:
Well said. That is the biggest thing wrong with Libertarians and conservatives, that, unlike most of us as far back as kindergarten, they never learned how to share, and to appreciate and accept fairness between people as being important. Having said that, I personally despise the term or label liberal, because I see it misused for or claimed by way too many people who are only "liberal" on issues of identity politics and culture war issues. These same people don't care a whit about economic justice, economic inequality, fair taxes, endless wars, etc. and are just fine with the status quo of American capitalism. To me, they are liberal in only a very selfish, self-serving way that furthers their own personal interests, such as gay rights, separation of church and state, or environmentalism, but nothing to change the rigged system of who is exploited and who gets and stays rich and holds all the power in the system. Thus, I prefer better labels, like socialist or progressive, for those who are lefty across the spectrum on issues, and something else, but not liberal, for those who are conservative on all things economic and liberal or lefty on everything else. Because otherwise, they are able to pretend to be on the opposite side of where they are in the class war, which, next to climate change, is by far the most important issue of our time. And by my standards and definition of liberal, those people are anything but liberal, as they are very selfish, tho not morons by any means...
The real difference between Atheist and religious people
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 1, 2022:
I agree, because when you only go around once in this existence, and there is no afterlife, making this life and existence count and stand for something, is even more important, than when there is some afterlife and an opportunity to be rewarded or work things out after death, etc.. And it also makes it clearer that few things in this life are worth dying for, including wars that benefit only the rich and powerful.

Just wanted the community here to know that I tried sharing this on my FB page and within less than an hour, FB had notified me that it violated their policies on content inciting violence and harm, etc., so that no one could see it except me. So I deleted it. You have to wonder if they would have enforced the policy so quickly and strictly if it had been directed at someone on the left? I guess you can't make a joke about violence against someone on the right, but I wonder how many of you have seen FB memes like this on FB about Biden or Pelosi? I wouldn't know, because I don't have any friends, on FB or IRL, that would post anything like that, but I wonder if any of you have seen a double standard on that with FB? TomMcGiverin comments on Oct 31, 2022:
I am for equality, fairness, compassion, and mercy for all of our citizens that need help, as well as fixing our infrastructure, instead of pouring most of our money into weapons and war for world empire. I am also for our governmental power being restored to our citizens, rather than it being continually held only by our corporations and the 1%. I am for everyone having a decent standard of living, good health care that is affordable, along with higher education available for free to all that desire it and have the ability to use it.I also want to see the so-called War On Drugs ended, a laughable label since for some time there has been an alt rock band named after it, showing how ironic and uncredible the whole thing is. Lastly, I want all those social benefits given to all of our citizens, with no strings attached regarding their race, religion, sexuality, etc., instead of continued culture war/Identity politics bullshit of only certain classes or groups of people being considered deserving of help or privilege, while others aren't, along with all the morality tests of who is "worthy" or not to be considered a true American.

TomMcGiverin comments on Oct 30, 2022:
It's become rather common across the country for the government to go after lefty groups, like peace groups esp., that feed the homeless, such as Food Not Bombs. They don't want those groups developing a positive public image by feeding the homeless, since the old tactic of simply calling them Communists, doesn't work as well anymore. Can't have people openly opposing the MIC and endless wars making a good impression on the public, because it might make opposing war too popular. On the other hand, if a Christian or mainstream Catholic church feeds the homeless, they leave them alone. It's all about whether the group feeding the homeless is challenging the local power structure or not..

Doesn't surprise me. I have had two MAGA types physically threaten me with assault, at my local senior center, and each time there were plenty of witnesses to it, in fact with one of the guys, it was right in front the center director. Both guys, each time, said that they wanted go out to the parking lot with me and kick my ass, etc.. But the pussies that run the center never suspended either one of them from coming to the center, as they should have. All because most of the senior center clients are Trumper Repubs, and they didn't want to step on their toes. So, in summary, if you are way outnumbered in the particular area where the conflicts, happen, you will never get any just or fair treatment if the cons threaten or bully you. We are totally on our own, unless they actually commit violence against us, but even then, we better have some witnesses and evidence, because the local cops are just as unlikely to take our side or aid us in getting them arrested and charged.

I feel your pain, even tho I live in a suburb that's part of the largest city in Iowa. While my area isn't rural, like yours, most of the available women on the dating sites still are into the rural culture, where country music, kids and family, religion, and social drinking are all very important in who they will date. Also, because most of them grew up in rural Iowa, they also require their dating partners to be into camping and fishing, neither of which I am into, so culturally and lifestyle-wise, I'm a fish out of water in the dating pool. All I can say is, just like I have to, keep plugging and remember that not only are you way better than people like this woman and deserve someone better, but that there are also women out there in MO that are on your level and compatible. But, like me, you may need to adjust your criteria in who you will connect with and meet from a dating site.I don't know where you are on the MO map, but you might consider seeking women in the KC, St. Louis, or Columbia areas of your state, since they are more likely to be on your level. I have run across women living in rural Iowa towns, within less than an hour away from me, on Match, that seemed compatible with me, at least on paper. But I have not bothered with messaging them or meeting them, because, in my experience, if they are still living in some hick rural Iowa town, there is nothing there to do with them besides sit at home with them and binge shows, etc., since there is no culture or entertainment where they live. And the other thing is, if they are still living in Podunk, they probably will never move away from there, and also don't have the kind of money to ever be able to afford traveling with me to the places I would like to go eventually. Also, if they are living in Podunk, they may well be living with a relative or friend, out of financial necessity, and I don't want to deal with that either, by being an eventual meal ticket. Glad you went to the daughter's and got some instant support and affirmation. It's frightening that people like your date and her crowd are allowed to vote, but it goes a long way in explaining Josh Hawley....
'This is her store; we just work here': Meet the cat that has become a fixture at this Home Depot
TomMcGiverin comments on Oct 23, 2022:
I've seen a few other store cats in my time. They all love the attention and know that their job is being cute and parading around for the customers. I also met a cat that lived at a nursing home, and her job was to comfort the dying residents. The cat had an uncanny sense of picking up on which residents were in their final days, and she would start hanging out in their room, standing guard and keeping them company until they died. Sort of an angel of death and comfort.

No surprise to anyone who's been paying attention for decades... But, as I've said many times before, Repub pols and their followers, never give a fuck about how hypocritical they appear, in fact, to them it's just more enjoyment over how it ends up owning the libs...

TomMcGiverin comments on Oct 22, 2022:
I have always been able to have good, healthy long term friendships with women over my life while single, and that has been a good thing, since it meets some of my social and emotional needs that are not met when I don't have a partner or am not actively dating steadily. The bad thing is, that those friendships are not really possible once or when one has a partner again. I think that women value those opposite, platonic friendships too, altho they usually have additional friendships with other women, unlike the single men. It's sad that opposite sex friendships always seem to fizzle out once either person finds their next dating partner, but it's better than nothing, because it helps fill the time of both parties, keeps them less isolated, and continues to give each of them some validation of their attractive qualities and worth as a person to another potential partner, since the dating game is so filled with rejection and discouragement, except maybe for those who are great looking, who get most of the interest from the other sex, and are usually doing the rejecting, rather than receiving rejection most of the time. I did listen to the whole thing, in parts, because the first third or so, was really kind of boring and not related to gender relations. Almost all of the rest was relevant, altho there was a segment about politics, the new form of terrorism thru inciting rhetoric.
Guys. gals thoughts?

Corporations Using Inflation As Cover To Raise Prices [youtube.
TomMcGiverin comments on Oct 20, 2022:
Support of this unfair system, favoring the rich and corporations, is fully bipartisan, and Reich needs to say the Dems are equally to blame. Both parties have pretty much the same corporate donors, so the Dems are equally guilty of not wanting to do windfall profits taxes, they just blame the Repubs for blocking what they themselves don't want to do. Vote Blue all you want to, it won't change anything for things related to class warfare against us or the rigged economy. All Dems will do is say they will improve things, but their actions are no different than the Repubs. Don't listen to what they say, look at their inaction....

The lying hypocrites think nothing of deceiving people into thinking these are legit health clinics, since their version of Christianity says that lying is always justified to serve the church's agenda. They have no shame.
Damn right they've got you, assholes!
TomMcGiverin comments on Oct 17, 2022:
Those women are making the naive or innocent assumption, of mistakenly thinking that Repub pols are capable of feeling shame or giving a damn about their own obvious hypocrisy. Experienced observers of Repub pols, already know those pols are immune to feeling shame about, or ever admitting, their clear hypocrisy... To me, it is incredibly ironic that the same party that crucified Bill Clinton (not that I ever really liked him or that I haven't hated him for years) for being a bimbo-chasing manwhore and committing sexual perjury, is the party that now promotes and protects Hershel Walker, along with other sexual hypocrites. Their capacity for arrogance and double standards is beyond belief.

Luckily, it doesn't really apply to me. I did play sports a lot when I was young, but my knees always stayed healthy. They pop a bit when I first get out of bed in the morning, but nothing else really. Probably due to me never playing football in school, which I hear is brutal on the knees...
I haven't interviewed in a long time, but I always hated this question.
TomMcGiverin comments on Oct 17, 2022:
One big reason for age discrimination, at least for jobs with health insurance benefits, is that older workers cost more for the employer to insure, so they prefer to hire people who are younger and cheaper, preferably with plenty of student debt, so they are easier to treat like slaves and push around. The other reason is that older workers have more experience, as well as strong opinions, and are less willing to let themselves be pushed around like younger workers. So your convo between the old man and HR manager, is right on the money. I am so glad to be retired now. I used to even fantasize about getting even with the pricks and bitches I dealt with back when I had to go looking for jobs, and all the games they played with me, along with lying to me. I dreamed that after retiring I would apply for jobs and pretend to want a job if I ever got a chance to interview, then go thru the motions of the interview, waste their time, and then, on the way out the door, tell them off and reveal that I was happily retired and had no intention of working again. There would really be no legal action they could take against me for it, but I'm sure it would quickly result in me being placed on an employer alert list of sorts that would clue every Chamber Of Commerce member in the local area, about my game. So I wouldn't be able to use it more than a time or two at most. So I decided it was not worth the trouble, even if I would get my revenge on at least one asshole employer...
What's sup....

TomMcGiverin comments on Oct 15, 2022:
I'm a bit conflicted on this one. I get it that you want to be with people that have some capacity for playfulness, like the meme suggests, but on the other hand, not everybody is into mainstream pop or rock music. So if you are someone more like the latter, in your music taste, then maybe someone who shares that with you would not be a negative influence in your life, but maybe another kindred soul that you belong with.

New Rule: Republican Idiocracy | Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - YouTube
TomMcGiverin comments on Oct 15, 2022:
I can summarize Maher's point, about why Repubs nominate such outrageous candidates much more quickly and simply. To them, it's just another way of owning the libs and making them angry at how much hypocrisy and dishonesty they can have in their candidates, and still get the votes of all of their base.

It would be interesting to hear the pro-life Bible thumpers make the argument that this pregnancy should not have been aborted, sort of brings up the contradiction of exactly what stages of life they care about in their pro-life policies and rhetoric. It obviously would have been the best thing for the world and everyone involved, if this kid's mother had let him be aborted...

It would be nice to hear the teacher was fired over it, but that would surprise me in this day and age. It reminds me of the idiot MAGA hat-wearing Trumper I used to see at my local senior center that I got into it with about a year ago. I found it really disturbing that he used to be a school teacher in my town, to think of what kind of values he was likely to be teaching his students before he retired recently. What's more scary is that in my heavily Repub town, he is probably pretty common among local teachers in his thinking and politics.
