@WilliamCharles That choice was clearly made by Trump and his cronies in the government. The only ? is if it will ever be proven in court and will he ever see prison over it. In the meantime, I would love to see some lawsuits against him by capital police officers who suffered because of him, because I have no faith the Dems will have the balls to actually get him punished for it. But in civil court, those officers might have a very good case against him if anybody in his circle ends up willing to talk.

@FvckY0u I'm an extremely skilled and careful driver, hence my having had a CDL and never having any accidents outside of in parking lots during my whole driving career, personal and on the jobs. So, regarding your insurance ?, I still carry a normal amount of insurance for my home and car, because things can always happen, even if it's someone else's fault, no matter how careful you are. I do drop collision insurance on my cars after they are ten years old, simply because by that time their worth is usually low enough to not be worth the money of repairing them after an accident. However, with the cost of used cars now, it might be worth adjusting that. I consider it simply being smart and sensible, regardless of what the government requires for car owners, or not. I know as soon as I begin hearing of right wing groups beginning to hunt average lefties, who aren't even elected pols, I will be arming myself and preparing to fight them if they come after me, regardless of the cost for buying a gun, ammo, and learning to shoot. That would simply be sensible spending to defend myself against a very plausible threat and not saving money in the foolish, naive belief that the cops would protect me.

Same as 9-11, there were people in the fed govt. that knew it was coming and did nothing to stop it, because all the way to Bush and Cheney, the attack served their purposes, both in providing a reason to invade Iraq and get their oil, as well as to boost W.'s image and power after the country rallied around him. As far as the article's points on support for right wing extremism in law enforcement's ranks, no surprise there, it's been that way for decades. Which is why if the expected civil war comes in in few years or less, started by right wing groups, I know that my side will be entirely on our own, with no protection or help from the cops. So we may as well buy our own guns, learn to shoot and prepare to defend ourselves once it becomes clear the war is about to begin.

TomMcGiverin replies on Oct 26, 2022:
It goes both ways, like everything. I have shared on these boards recently about running across several women on Match who were closet Trumpers or conservatives, but listed themselves on their profiles as Independent or Moderate for their political affiliation. Why they bothered replying to my message, after seeing my profile and that I was a Bernie supporter, is beyond me. But I think the reason they hid their real political position was to be able to get a foot in the door for dating guys that might not care about their politics if the woman was attractive and compatible enough for the guy otherwise. Didn't fool me tho, once I either began trading messages with them or met them in person for coffee. They rejected me and I rejected them, for whatever reasons, but I'm sure politics was probably part of it, for both them and me. My other two dealbreakers, on my end, besides someone being a conservative or Trumper, is being a daily smoker, or a big fan of country music. But that last one is because music is so important to me, as well as the fact that most country music fans also tend to be very different from me culturally, so there's usually other incompatibilities that come with that musical difference in other cultural areas, like what movies they would like, them wanting to fish and camp, etc.. I can also be ok with dating someone who is moderately or mildly religious, as long as they can accept my Agnosticism, but that last part almost never happens on the part of women who are moderately religious, and with women who are strongly religious, it's almost always a dealbreaker on either their part or mine.

TomMcGiverin replies on Oct 26, 2022:
Well, duh... It would be a cakewalk for Dems, if they willing to embrace policies that are proven winners by polling, like lowering health care costs, providing M4All, etc. and other lefty populist policies, but they never will, at least not sincerely, because it would anger their corporate donors. So they go on, election after election, trying to squeeze out, or not, a tiny marginal victory by basically saying, " We're not them!", and playing entirely to political theater, ID politics, and culture war issues. By now most Americans have seen this game long enough and either don't buy it or just give up on voting... Leaving all the populist positions to the Repubs, is not a winning strategy, but winning fed elections has not been a Dem priority ever since Clinton won in 1992.

So there is no fair and honest way to make that required for voting, because it would always be abused by partisan groups whenever they gained political supremacy, for them to hold onto power at all costs.

TomMcGiverin replies on Oct 23, 2022:
@DenoPenno I guess we are different in that respect. I really miss traveling since my late wife got ill, and would love to start doing that again with a partner. As for partying, I never did that much since I was in my 20s, and don't miss it at all either, same as you. But as a non-drinker, no matter how open-minded and tolerant I am about dating a moderate drinker, it seems like very few women who are social or moderate drinkers are ok with dating any non-drinker, no matter what my mindset, because social drinking is the center of their social life with friends and family, and I would not "fit in" well enough for that, even tho they would have a built in DD with me. So, nothing I can do, because so many women in my dating pool have lots more men to choose from besides me, that are more mainstream in culture and lifestyle, and check every box in their rigid, narrow, stupid long list of traits that have nothing to do with what is in someone's heart, their relationship track record, their relationship skills, and their communication skills, all of which are my strong suits in what I can offer a partner, but that matter very little to most women in my dating pool, who are divorced and have never gotten any therapy. So they keep repeating the same poor choices in who they date and instead blame all of it on the men they choose, rather than getting therapy or looking at their own poor choices and their even poorer criteria for choosing a dating partner.. I would be willing to even try LD dating with someone who lived in Minneapolis or Chicago, even, but it's not worth even bothering to look into, again, after exploring it a few years ago, because it would be a dead end. The women in those two cities, or anywhere else that far away that might have some things to do where they live, are not interested in dating LD, or ever moving to my area, so what's the point in even looking into that? Anybody living in a better place than Des Moines, like Minneapolis or Chicago, usually already has family and friends they don't want to leave behind, same as my friends I have here, and even if they are retired like me or soon to retire, why would they want to move away from a better place to live like there, to live in a place like Des Moines, which is not as good? The answer is, they won't, because single women my age are usually not as interested as men are in making sacrifices just to add a partner relationship to their lives, esp. if they already have good relationships where they live with family and friends. And I am not willing to risk moving away from all my local friends, who are my only real family or support system. So I am just as stuck as you are, with my local online dating pool as the only way to find another partner.

TomMcGiverin replies on Oct 23, 2022:
I agree with you that there are good people out there in every online dating pool, even in a limited geo area of, say, 60 miles or less. But the thing is, online dating is also competitive, and in my case, for example, there are over 3 men for every woman that is in my age range and local distance limit of 60 miles, in my local Match dating pool. So, finding a partner means not only finding someone compatible on paper, in the local online dating pool, but also winning the competition between me and the other men in my age group that share that local geo dating pool on the dating site. Organic dating is way easier and less competitive, because in that sphere, all you have to do is meet someone while they are available and interested in dating, and if you meet their minimum compatibility requirements, and vice versa, you are on your way to dating them steadily. In online dating, you need to not only meet those things, but also end up being chosen by them over all the competition, and vice versa, so it's a wonder that anybody who is average looking is able to ever find a partner who is at least average looking, because all of the variables would seem to work against that happening. Since research studies have shown that both men and women seem to put all of their interest and effort into only trying to online date those who are better than average looking. So average looking men, who make up the majority of online dating singles, are pretty much out of luck against the guys who are 7s, 8s, and 9s in looks, because even the average looking women, who are the minority gender on dating sites, about one third, put about all their interest in the great looking guys.

I feel that about all country music is crap, so I do just walk away and leave, whenever I can, from staying and hearing that music. The only place I have to just about always stay and put up with it, is at karaoke shows. Tho sometimes, I just get so fed up after an hour or two, that I just leave, instead of staying there just to sing some more, because I have reached my limit on country music for that night. Lucky for you, you live in New Orleans, so you probably have to put up with way less country music there than I do here... assuming you feel the same as I do about country music.

TomMcGiverin replies on Oct 15, 2022:
@rainmanjr The sad, practical fact, is that any elected office that is high enough to have actual, real campaigns, in which the candidate is asked about religion, requires, in America, that the candidate at least claim to be religious in some way, Christian, Catholic or whatever. Because in America almost nowhere can a candidate for a higher office get away with being openly Agnostic or Atheist, or even claim to be non-religious. For example, it seems very obvious to me, after following Bernie Sander for years in the news and even hearing him speak in person several times, that he is a cultural Jew, but most likely an Atheist or Agnostic, certainly not religious or a believer in any religion, but he has always coyly avoided identifying himself as non-religious or a non-believer, because he knows it would be political poison for him if he ever ran for president, even more than his label of being a democratic socialist.

@Druvius That's what I've always felt about Trump, he is a creep and a fascist, but he's a symptom of the disease. Seems like nobody wants to see or discuss the disease, which is that we live in a plutocracy, not a democracy, where more Americans realize that federal elections are just a charade, where the candidates are pre-selected by corporations, so more people now don't vote than do vote for either major party. And the corporate media never discusses this problem. Finally, the working class rightfully feels abandoned by the Dems, so they are always vulnerable to being conned by the Repubs into voting for them, every time that the Repubs promise to help them while lying about it. These things, caused largely by the Dems selling out to corporations and shitting on unions and the working class, are what made it possible for Trump to win in 2016. The Dem Party will get what they deserve, but they really don't care anymore about winning elections, no matter what they say publicly. But progressives like us do not deserve the government we keep getting from the duopoly when we know better and have been rejecting it over and over. But maybe, in a way, we do, because we have never established a viable third party to blow the Dems out of the water they way they need to be. Both major parties support militarism and empire, instead of peace, globalization, neoliberal economics, and increased poverty and inequality, instead of progressive economic policies and fair tax policies that make the rich and corporations pay their fair share. Both parties support our continued system of legalized bribery and money being treated as political speech, instead of federal campaigns being limited in length, limits on campaign spending, and full funding of federal campaigns for all qualified candidates. These things are the rot that led us to Trump being elected.

@BananaFlambe Some women are attracted to baldness with a man, some aren't. Some are attracted to some bald guys, but only if the bald guy also happens to have a cute face and a smoking hot body, such as the actor Shemar Moore, otherwise, if the bald guy is average looking, they won't give him a second look. It's complicated like that. I think the most telling evidence is how few male actors who play lead roles or esp. play romantic lead roles, are bald. That tells me that Hollywood, and most women, don't find most bald men to be attractive, compared to men with full heads of hair. Hollywood execs aren't stupid. They cast male actors with hair, because that is what most of their female audience finds attractive, so they give them what they want to see on the screen... The other evidence is how many billions of dollars per year are made by companies that sell drugs they say prevent hair loss or that provide hair replacement services, because most men know from their experience, how much baldness is a turnoff to most women, and they don't want to experience it themselves. As far as tats, maybe that works with some women as a way to attract them despite being bald, I don't know. I do know that many or most bald men grow facial hair, with beards and mustaches, in order to either balance out their look or distract women with facial hair so they don't focus on the bald top of their head, but I have no idea if that works or not with women. To me, it looks stupid, weak, and foolish, as I'm sure most women still notice that the man is bald on top, and all the facial hair in the world is not going to prevent the woman from still noticing the guy's baldness...

TomMcGiverin replies on Oct 8, 2022:
@Scott321 The Nader thing is bullshit. Bush won FL because the SC stopped the recount, as Gore would have won if the recount had not been stopped by the US Supreme Court. Secondly, even with Nader, it wouldn't have even been close if lots of elderly voters in one part of FL hadn't gotten confused by the type of ballot that was being used in that area, where conservative Pat Buchanan, a Repub, was on the ballot in a spot that the elderly voters were obviously mistaking his spot for Gore's, who they were trying to vote for. Thirdly, the ballot mistake was still enough for Gore to have won if it hadn't happened, regardless of what happened with the Cuban voters. Again, I am sick of people wrongly blaming Nader for Gore's loss, when the election shouldn't have even been close, if the Dems had put up a better candidate, and Gore had run a decent campaign. Gore had no charisma and came off to most voters as very unlikeable, compared to W. Quit believing the Nader mythology, which the corporate media was more than happy to spread, since it gave the Dem Party cover, years later, when they screwed Bernie twice, so they could point to Nader and justify it by saying how bad nominating a progressive would be, etc..

Does deprivation of sexual relationship for 14 years constitute cruel and unusual punishment?
TomMcGiverin comments on Oct 7, 2022:
Your ? is vague and ambiguous. What do you mean, are you talking about a partner in a marriage or committed relationship refusing to have sex with someone? Or are you talking about any person who is deprived of sex with someone other than themselves for 14 years, such as an incel? Or, as someone ...

@BananaFlambe Thanks for clarifying it. I have a computer, a landline phone and membership on Match.com for over three years now. I have been unable to find a long term relationship, tho I did date two women for six months each, at different times. That is the best I could do, with the way the numbers game of online dating works, how mismatched I am for most of my local online dating pool, and how much competition I face in that local pool, but I never blamed the people that run my phone service, that just sounds crazy, sorry to be so harsh. I do feel some resentment at whoever runs Match, because they keep making the profile formats worse and more limited over time, and that does hurt all but their most best looking members from connecting with compatible people. But I still don't feel that the folks running Match are singling me out for mistreatment, just that they only care about money and want to limit their member profiles as much as possible, because it saves them money in what they spend on IT services. Join the club, almost all of us singles are screwed by the online dating sites, but it's nothing personal. The sites don't care about any of us or about helping us find partners, they just care about money and they aren't regulated at all, so we are on our own.

I can't believe I would ever say this but Kid could do better.
TomMcGiverin replies on Oct 7, 2022:
Possibly, possibly not. I've always thought that Kid Rock was a POS asshole, so I'm inclined to think they both would deserve each other. Picture has long been my most cringe-worthy song at karaoke that I absolutely loathe every time some millenial couple gets up there to sing it. To me it only shows how trashy and stupid they are to think a song like that about low-life white trash singing about cheating on each other and still missing them is somehow romantic and cool. I used to like and respect Sheryl Crow, but her recording that song with him lost all of that for me. I blame Rock more than her for that stupid song.

TomMcGiverin replies on Oct 6, 2022:
There is a retirement age here, that varies from 62 to 67, depending on when you were born and when you want to start taking the government's old age pension, Social Security. But the only mandatory retirement age for jobs is for judges, who must retire from full time work as a judge at age 70, at least in my state.

TomMcGiverin replies on Oct 6, 2022:
@Diaco I don't laugh at it. I find it sad and disgusting that our system, our corporate media, and most of our voters are more afraid of socialism than they are of electing figureheads like Reagan, W., and Biden. Where is the pride in that? Seems more to me like fear of the bogeyman that they are brainwashed in to thinking will ruin their lives, just because it's labeled socialism, lumped in falsely with communism and totalitarianism, which is what we are going to get if a Repub is elected prez in two years, totalitarianism that is in a fascist dictatorship. I have pride in what our country used to be, during the New Deal and The Great Society years of LBJ, except for the the Vietnam War of that time. No, I don't have any pride in what our country has been since 1968, nor should I have. I stand respectfully during the national anthem at sports events, not because I buy any of that patriotic bullshit these days, nor have a ever flown a flag where I lived. I stand respectfully, but not with my hand on my heart or any of that reverent bullshit I see from other people then, but simply because I am too tired and disgusted to want to deal with any of their bullshit and harassment if I failed to comply with their ritual. At the senior center where I live, they used to recite the pledge of allegience once each week before we ate lunch, and I boycotted that, as well as the daily moment of silence, which was just a thinly veiled substitute for a moment of prayer, which I'm sure about all of us would boycott. I did it very conspicuously, and am proud of it. When the center moved to a new building, they dropped the rituals, but I would have still boycotted them. I have pride in what our country was long ago and what it could be, but not for it being any kind of good example for the rest of the world, because it quit being that long ago when I was a child. If you still think we have a functioning democracy, which even Jimmy Carter admitted recently that we don't have, then you are the fool and the naive one... The war to fear is the coming civil one, not one from a country outside our borders... Maybe you're a shill for the defense contractors or weapons makers, for all I know....

@Diaco That may well be true of Puff, IDK, and I don't make a habit of investigating everyone who posts and comments on these boards. I do know what I have read online from foreign media that are certainly not friends with or dupes of Russia or China, so why do you assume that everybody that disagrees with you is knowingly or unknowingly helping those two countries? It is equally or more naive and blind to just support an American president, or any leader of a country you live in, simply because you think being critical of them is aiding the enemies of that country. Using that logic, any criticism of any leader, for any valid reason, could be dismissed as lies or treated as treasonous. So, are you by any means trying to equate criticism of Biden's cognitive functioning as being on the same level as any of Trump's treasonous acts against the country? That would really be laughable.... The ruling class and the corporations here in America, that really own things, including the pols in DC, and that really run things, are far bigger and more present dangers to the lives and welfare of most Americans. They are willing to kill or sacrifice as many of us as they need to in order to maintain their profits and power, because they no longer even need most of us as workers, or even as consumers of their goods and services, in a globalized market like we have now. So fear or hate China and Russia as much as you want, I'm not saying they don't deserve some of it, but they are not nearly the threat to most of us like we have from the neoliberal, corporatists and warmongers in both major parties. As long as we continue electing them to congress and the WH, we are doomed, no matter what other countries do. Only a revolution can save us now, but much as I would like to see it happen, I have no faith that it will. What I do see happening, in the next couple years is either a low grade civil war here, or a fascist, permanent dictatorship if the Repubs win the WH and control of congress in two years, both of which I think will happen. The civil war will happen if they don't win control of DC in two years. Either scenario will be a terrible experience. It reminds me of the old Woody Allen joke where he describes two horrible, nightmarish paths that the world can take as the future unfolds, and then says, " Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly (or wisely, I can't remember which)"....

@Diaco You are being willfully obtuse, as the character said in The Shawshank Redemption. The OP is not only talking about Biden's pants issue, he is making the connection between that and Biden's obvious dementia, which you are in denial about. Fine, suit yourself with that.. I could give a fuck, esp. since you mention nothing about your own experience with dementia patients, so I can only assume you have none, or at least less than me, or the OP, for that matter, who mentions his own father's dementia. Maybe you might want to read the OP's post again and notice the connection he makes between Biden's noticeable things and the OP's father's dementia that the OPs shared with us. Or maybe you could wow us with your own considerable experience, research, and knowledge of dementia? I thought not....

Your defense of him with just this video is laughable... I won't speak for the OP or Druvious, who can defend themselves capably, I'm sure, but I sure as hell, figuratively speaking, am no fan of Putin, nor am I dumb, naive, or any kind of traitor to America, tho I do hate our current plutocratic system, our corporate media, our two corrupt major parties, as does any intelligent, intellectually honest, and thinking person who values equality and fairness, as well as truth. TomMcGiverin replies on Oct 5, 2022:
I can and do agree with you on all that, but I also do strongly feel that he has dementia, but agree with you, that the way the system is now, the way his handlers have been able to get away with working around it, and the way the Repubs play along with the Dems in congress by not going after Biden on his dementia to get him impeached, or force him to resign, because they know their party could well end up in the future with another demented Repub prez like Reagan in the WH, and don't want to set a precedent of impeachment or forced resignation for dementia, they will give him a pass on the dementia, same as the Dems gave Reagan, same as the Dems gave W., a dim-witted incompetent figurehead if ever there was one, even when it was obvious that Cheney was really running things. BTW, Harris would be a terrible candidate in two years and no way she would get elected, nor do I think she would be any better than Biden on policy. She's just another Dem party hack or loyalist, centrist, corporate Dem, just like Biden. From what I hear, Newsom is being built up to be the one who's nominated in two years, and from what I hear, he will also be another supporter of the status quo, except for the usual ID politics and culture war stuff.
I don't feel so bad now.
