Well folks I made it, the only real thing I felt was tired and a wee bit sore shoulder.

Manhattan to Stop Prosecuting Prostitution, Part of Nationwide Shift [news.yahoo.com]
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 22, 2021:
It would be nice if prostitution eventually became decriminalized here and ended up with the same system as New Zealand regarding prostitution, but I'm not optimistic. The evangelical and Catholic churches are too powerful. It still might happen in some blue states, but not nationwide.

It's an isolated victory. It only happened because someone recorded the whole thing. Most of the time there is not a recording like this, in the future it will usually end up being the cop's word against the bystander's and in those cases, the cop always walks. Even in this case, without the video, the cop's word would have trumped that of all the bystander witnesses.

Do you believe in "False Flags", or do you think these are legitimate?
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 20, 2021:
9-11 and the Jan. 6 riot were inside jobs, where the perps either had help or the authorities let it happen because it benefited them. I also believe the Boston Marathon bombing was an inside job. False flag or inside jobs are the same thing in my book.I also believe the FBI or CIA, sometimes both, were involved in the assassinations of JFK, MLK, and RFK.

Nice song. I like how his voice is simple and unembellished, without all that American Idol crap where they do all these vocal tricks and such to show off. He just sings the lyrics with some emotion and lets that do the job. Sometimes the untrained singers are the best conveyors of the song's message. What I like even more is his song about country music where he satirizes the genre and the pandering of it stars to their audience.

I really have almost no friends that are believers, and even with them, religion is a non-issue. It also almost never comes up in my very limited small talk with neighbors. So I really don't care about believers in general or what they think. Only when it gets into the level of government and society where they try to impose their religion on us. Then it matters to me, but I couldn't care less what they believe or do in their private lives.

The CIA Used To Infiltrate The Media.
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 17, 2021:
I have found that most people on the liberal side of the spectrum either lack the interest to seek alternative news sources or refuse to question the corporate media or the Dem Party establishment because they lack the strength and courage to deal with facing the reality that the corporate media and the Dem leadership are lying to them about anything that involves the interests of average Americans. It is simply too much for them to believe that continuing to elect corporate Dems will be never be enough to actually change anything for the everyday reality of most Americans. They see the increases in chaos and violence around our country and refuse to make the connection between it and a failed system, instead they see it all as unconnected and due to causes like simply availability of guns or underfunded mental health care. They fail to see how it's all connected to the growing rage that people feel, even if they don't really understand what they feel rage about. That rage fueled support for Trump and it will continue to feed support for the next Repub dictator, unless the people are given a real choice between that and a left wing populist in a general election. The system is not sustainable for keeping order and peace in the US. In the end, it will only result in either revolution or a fascist crackdown followed by permanent martial law and a dictatorship. Most likely it will be the latter.

It's all about keeping them, esp. girls, cloistered, ignorant, and inexperienced, so they're easier to con, manipulate, and dominate. How Men Treat Women They Find Unfuckable
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 8, 2021:
Even tho I am prone to often use the F-word myself, I find the use here of the term unfuckable gratuitously vulgar and somewhat offensive. I wonder if the author is using it purposely to express anger towards men and possibly a bit of misandry on her part. Regardless, I feel it would be more accurate and less offensive to simply say unattractive rather than the choice she used. When I look at a woman and simply conclude I do not find her attractive physically, at the time I am more likely to thinking more of whether I would want to kiss or hug her, rather than immediately or automatically thinking of whether I would be interested in sex with her. When I first see a woman's photos, whether in a dating profile or some other format, or for that matter encounter her in public, I often do form a quick impression of them either looking attractive or not, but I don't think I change my behavior towards them very much based on that assessment, at least not when I encounter them in person. I still try to see the humanity in everyone, male or female, and treat them with kindness.
How Men Treat Women They Find Unfuckable
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 7, 2021:
For the umpteenth time, I will say it again, it goes both ways. Even tho it was a few decades ago, I still keenly remember both in the dating game and from people of both genders in general, how much better I was treated and regarded when I was much younger and had both a full head of hair and an athletic body. I no longer have an athletic body this time around in the dating game, but my body weight is still average, but apparently I don't have the looks required or demanded by women in the top 50% of the dating pool I use in my dating site, because I seldom get replies from women in that segment of the dating pool and also of the twelve Likes that were sent to me since I became active again in the last few months with the site, only two of those women were average looking, the rest were below average looking and none of them were above average-looking. The assertion below by Detritus appears to be right on the mark about the top 50% of women in looks only being interested in guys who were in the top 20% for looks and money.
The Barack Obama Memoir: Don’t Trust the Process
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 7, 2021:
Bullshit. Obama was a sellout from the beginning and never made an honest effort to accomplish anything progressive, instead blaming the big bad Repubs even when he had a supermajority in both houses to start his administration. Hell, he didn't even try to get something as simple as card check passed to aid unions in organizing, and that would have been a simple task when he had the supermajority, and far less of a battle than the ACA.

TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 6, 2021:
Decriminalized prostitution sounds like a fair and positive social policy. Too bad it has no chance of ever happening in America because of how politically strong our evangelical and Catholic churches are. And all the while so many of their ministers, priests, and congregation members continue to visit prostitutes illegally now and would continue to do so on the sly if it were decriminalized here. To me, it sounds like decriminalized prostitution makes it no different than massage therapy or physical therapy, just that it will never be covered under health insurance policies like those two services.

Loving the Military Because It’s More Diverse – Bracing Views
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 4, 2021:
I am less than overwhelmed with diversity in the military. How is it progress for the military to allow gay, trans people and racial minorities to serve when the overreaching goals and accomplishments of the American military these days is to oppress and kill colored people overseas with drones or more conventional slaughter on the ground of foreigners? I would rather see progress here at home with more inclusion of the above minority groups in government decision-making and access to decent jobs and healthcare. It's the same as electing a woman or a black man as prez. Whoop- tee-freakin'-doo.. How does it make any difference or change anything if the person elected supports the same policies and power arrangements as a white man? That sort of ID politics bullshit is what I really hated about Obama and what few people seemed to catch onto.

They are acting relaxed and casual because they feel superior to some subhuman black criminal and feel they are teaching him a much-needed lesson about how to respect them and stay in his place, rather than stand up to them. No better than the overseers on the old southern slave plantation, which is what the cops have become in most urban cities with a large minority population. An occupying army of plantation-type overseers.
Three officers with relaxed body language.
TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 31, 2021:
I've been watching some of the trial on MSNBC and I have two conclusions from it. One is that if the cop is not convicted of at least one of the charges, then Minneapolis is going to burn, and if it does I really hope that the fires are limited to just the police stations and the courthouse, which is what should burn. Second, the next time a cop puts a black man in a chokehold or holds a knee on a black man's neck for several minutes, I hope the onlookers rush the cop and either kill him, beat him as a group, or force him to shoot them in cold blood, rather than let another white cop execute a black man without resistance. I would love to see a whole mob attack and overwhelm a racist murdering cop the same way the rioters were allowed to invade and occupy the nation's capital. It's time to see some balancing of the scales. Because if that happened even once, it might make the next cop like Chauvin think twice about staying put and murdering a black man for his own twisted racist pleasure and instead choose self preservation by letting the man go and getting the fuck out of there. It's time for the class of former slaves to rebel and take the whip out of the overseer's hand. The Black Panthers were right, just ahead of their time, maybe....

When will the working class and middle classes ever wake up and realize that just because someone shares their race and/or gender (or is a racial minority) and makes some noises about solidarity with your demo group, that it doesn't necessarily mean they are on your side in the class struggle? While maintaining voting rights is important, in my mind it's not going to make much difference if in two or four years we are still left with only two corrupt major parties (neither or which care about anyone lower than the top 15% of the class structure or income groups) and no viable third party to vote for at the federal level. In that situation, it comes down to merely have a choice between the two pre-selected millionaires, or stooges for the very rich, you get to choose to oppress you. Either way, you get shit and still end up being oppressed.

Two completely different systems of law enforcement and justice. One for opponents of the status quo and the dominant tribe and another for those supporting it.

These days a worker has no rights unless they have a strong union to protect and fight for them, no matter what rights are in the laws, at least not while they are still employed by a bad employer. And few are lucky enough to find a lawyer willing to help them sue after they lose their job. This may be more of a regional problem with Panera, but it will change my view of the company, which until now has been positive. The thing about mistreatment of low wage employees like this by chains like Panera, or Wal-Mart for that matter, is that it never gets taken up by lawyers to sue the employer unless it's thru a class action lawsuit, because the amount of money involved is too low to be worth a lawyer's time with the normal contingency fee setup for paying the lawyer with a share of the winnings against the employer.

I had a similar situation when I was younger and working a much more professional job, and had even more to lose. It ended up being my last chance job to succeed in my chosen profession as a hospice social worker, but unfortunately for me at that time, the best job I could get in the field, on my third try in the field, was in a rural Iowa satellite office of a bigger hospice program in a decent sized city. I never had a chance, as the head nurse didn't like social workers or men very much and I was both. And then the two nurses that I shared my patients with were both religious nuts and began undermining me with the patients and families as soon as they and the head nurse decided I was not their kind. So as soon as it became clear to all that I was single, liberal, and non-religious, the hostile environment began and they forced me out of there, even tho I did have some allies in the office, but not enough, as well as the social work director in the main office, but they couldn't save me as the director of the satellite office caved to the head nurse, telling me that I needed to attend a Christian church in order to fit in with the rest of the staff and the clients of the program. Also, because I was sensitive and single, as well as liberal, there were rumors that I might be gay. If I were stronger then and had the right lawyer I might have had a case for religious harrassment and discrimination, as there were things on the record by the two nurses and the director of the satellite office that were inappropriate and incriminating. I resigned and then found out six months later that the satellite office director finally realized, too late, that the problem was not me, but the head nurse. So she finally stood up to her and fired her, too late for me tho. Still, I took that as vindication that I got screwed and that the staff and organization finally saw the light, not that they would ever admit they screwed me or apologize, as it would make them more open to a lawsuit from me. I then found out a year later after that that the head nurse had sued the hospice organization over her firing and lost her lawsuit, which I took as further vindication.

I totally agree about both AOC and Nina Turner. Unfortunately too many progressive people do not keep up with everything or look deeply into the issues and positions of pols like them. I was recently talking with a woman I met on Match who is almost as progressive or left as me, but she still buys the mainstream narrative that both of these women are still true radicals or progressives. I didn't want to alienate or argue with her for obvious reasons, since I find her attractive and very compatible so far, but it is so frustrating to deal with this not just with her, but also some of my friends who buy into all the establishment narrative even tho their values are not that far from mine.

This so true. Repub and conservative business people have long ago forced all progressive voices out of any mainstream or corporate run newspapers, radio, or TV programming.

Nothing new here, just confirmation of everything I already knew in my bones about how the nomination was rigged and that even Bernie was complicit this time in handing the nomination to Biden. The whole nominating process is a charade these days and I will never participate again in a Dem caucus. Next time it will be AOC playing Bernie's role as the fake progressive challenger to whoever the party leaders have already selected, most likely Harris.
Worth a watch.

Tom Arnold was in my high school class (Ottumwa, Iowa 1977) and also played very briefly in a high school rock band with my brother. He was one of the biggest assholes in my class, just as unfunny then as he was later (at least to me and my classmates who walked out on him when he did some standup comedy at one of our class reunions), and also stole the money from the one gig he played in my brother's band. My one brush with fame...
I am very sadden by the shootings/murder in Boulder, CO.

Mass shootings are now as American as apple pie and baseball. Now we will again go thru our hollow ritual of public outrage in the mass media and our politicians while in the end nothing changes.

This certainly explains why it's so easy for the duopoly and the corporate media to dupe the vast majority of the citizens to swallow the lies of the two major parties. You can't have critical thinking skills if you don't already have functional literacy.
