Cat that survived being shot in the head is now looking for a new home | Metro News
TomMcGiverin comments on Dec 3, 2020:
This reminds me of a case many years ago in my area of Iowa. Some sick fuck broke into an animal shelter and attacked several of the cats there by grabbing them by the tail and swinging them from it. The cats that were not killed outright had to be euthanized due to the damage to their tails and the amount of pain they were in. After reading about it in the newspaper I hoped that the cops would catch the guy, but they never did, to my knowledge. I would like to have seen him hung by his balls so he could learn some of what agony he caused the cats.
Sometimes, cats can be extremely easy to please.

I would like some opinions! (And these are examples of why some women are disdainful of some men .
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 28, 2020:
Gwen, you seem like a good egg from what I have read from you on the forum. You say you want opinions, but you may not like mine. Some women play just as many games as some men on dating sites. You have no control over how honest the other person will be. You can only be as honest and explicit as possible if you are seeking only a particular type of arrangement. After that, you can either stay involved or opt out. It sounds to me like you may not be explicit enough in defining to the men you engage with what you are after. Personally, I wouldn't use a dating site if what I really wanted was only some kind of FWB, which is what you seem to be after. But maybe I'm wrong about that and it depends on the dating site. Maybe a hookup site would be better for what you are after rather than something like Match or Our Time, which would seem to be more for people who want to actually date and be involved romantically. As to what you said about mutual sexual attraction, I can only speak for myself that I never assume that sexual attraction on my part towards someone is mutual, until they make it very obvious that is the case. I have never been confident about my looks, so maybe that explains that. I have no idea how most other men are on the front of assuming their attraction is automatically mutual. After two years of frustration and rejection the last time I used a dating site-before meeting someone I dated for about six months exclusively- I know that the next time I use a site after Covid, I will be a lot quicker to move on if someone does not seem right or appears to be playing games. I will come into it with no expectations and therefore will probably have less disappointment and get played less often.
Getting back in the dating game. The search is daunting. What dating sites are recommended?
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 28, 2020:
For most people in the US, I would recommend Match. Also, if you have the money and decide to join multiple sites, you will probably find a lot of the same people from Match on the other sites as well. Since Match has the most members in the US, the best use of your money would be to join Match and leave it at that. Less time and money invested than if you join multiple sites. I also think that until Covid has been resolved with most Americans being vaccinated, dating sites would be a waste of time as few people would be willing to take the risk of meeting someone new in person. So why spend the money on connecting with someone thru the site and messaging them if few are willing to take the plunge and meet up in person, because they have no idea if the other person is infected with Covid?

Britain’s Class War on Children This is what poverty does.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 27, 2020:
The US and the UK are so similar. Each has their two major parties that both hate and beat on the poor. Only the names of the parties are different. Both nations put the military budget far ahead of providing for the needs of the masses. The one difference is that in the UK most people are keenly aware of class and know exactly where they fit into the class system of their country. In the US, most people are clueless about class, or, at most, overestimate their class status if they are in the lower classes. This is thanks to the successful brainwashing and censorship of the corporate media here doing a better job on the masses than the media in the UK.
Another meaning for other people's
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 27, 2020:
And yet, no doubt, you and other conservatives and libertarians seem to be entirely ok with how corporations and the rich continually steal from the working class and the rest of us peasants with tax cuts for just the wealthy, corporate welfare, and the military industrial complex. That kind of theft is totally fine, of course. Fuck off, greedhead... Are you already rich, or just another wannabee? At least Bernie is one pol who isn't for sale or bought off. Would you instead prefer only pols that are owned by the rich and corporations, like almost all the ones in DC?
It’s becoming more real every day.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 26, 2020:
Becoming more real? In my opinion, we're already pretty much there. We have Newspeak, the propaganda speech of the corporate media. We have the persecution of whistleblowers, like Julian Assange, who has been imprisoned and tortured for exposing our corrupt authorites. We even have the daily Two Minutes Hate on cable channels like Fox News and MSNBC for partisans of both major parties to vent their anger at their enemies in the duopoly instead of focusing on the real enemy, the ruling class and corporate America. We also have endless war with constantly shifting narratives of who is trying to ruin America, as in China, Russia, Iran, North Korea or all of them. The main difference between Orwell's Oceania and America is we still have elections, as least for show, and that instead of TVs that spy on us while we watch things on them, we have computer devices that spy on us while we look at content on them. In both his world and ours, the rulers speak to us thru the devices on social media and we are content to let them watch us in exchange for letting us be entertained. America's so-called War On Terror, which the rest of the world has pretty much dismissed, is right out of Orwell's book as a way to distract from domestic oppression and corruption and instead keep the sheeple scared of our foreign enemies as defined by our government and fuel distrust and hatred of anyone who is different than our dominant racial group, whites.

I love that new term, Maskhole. I intend to use it if I can find the right opportunity in conversation or at the grocery store. Will try not to use it directly with a maskhole, as it might provoke a confrontation that would get both of us thrown out and banned from the store. After our governor finally issued a limited mask order for the state, the grocery stores are now falling in line with requiring masks for customers, but so far I haven't heard of them actually enforcing it.

All I know is that as long as I live in a red state like Iowa my vote is pretty well useless in any federal election, so I will only get representation for my viewpoint if enough people from other states vote for my preference. And for the time being, my votes are also useless in a statewide election as Repubs win almost every statewide election. That will change eventually as most of the rural Iowans, who mostly vote Repub, die off naturally while their areas continue to depopulate.

TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 21, 2020:
They are scared and stupid, that's what. Luckily, I can mostly avoid them. Grateful I no longer have to work with the public like medical workers. The hospitals need to call security pronto on these people and ban them wherever possible unless they can prove they have an emergency medical condition. If they can't boot them out as "stabilized" with the appropriate documentation so they can't sue.
What Trump Showed Us About America
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 21, 2020:
I fucking knew all that from the beginning of Trump, I even predicted we'd get someone like him and we'll get someone even worse in four years. That is, unless we get a presidential candidate from either a third party or, very unlikely, the Dems, that is an economic progressive. Biden or Harris won't cut it, but neither the DNC, the party establishment pols, or the loyal voters of the Dem Party seem to get it or even care if they do get it. Remember this in four years if we are all still on this site. Biden and democracy in America, what's left of it, lucked out big time this time around as if Covid hadn't happened, then Trump would have won easily.

Are there many success stories here for online dating sites?
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 21, 2020:
You definitely beat the odds, esp. since the relationship was techinically LD. I met someone on Match that I dated steadily for about six months before it ended, partly due to Covid. It was someone local, BTW. The next time I try online dating, after Covid blows over maybe this summer or next fall at the latest, my expectations will be much lower, as in next to nothing, compared to how I approached the first two years of online dating. I was very frustrated and bitter by the time I met the woman I dated, but now, with several months of sitting it out and getting used to being alone with Covid, I think I will be able to cope with the rejection and waiting game much better next time. We'll see..

TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 21, 2020:
I have known a lot of people with diagnosed mental illnesses as well as workers in the mental health field. What I have learned from them is that finding someone who can and will be supportive of a partner with mental illness is very difficult to find. And, not surprisingly, those people are usually folks who have their own mental illness. So, in other words, the realistic truth is that most single people with a mental illness that want to find a partner that will be emotionally supportive and reliable will probably need to be ok with that being a fellow person with MI. Because most so-called normal people are not willing or interested in carrying that load. Life is not a movie or romance novel. I hope my blunt honesty doesn't hurt anyone's feelings, but that's reality. If you want unconditional love and support from another creature, whether "normal" or a fellow being with MI, you might consider getting a dog or cat.

A Modest Proposal For Centrist Democrats: Join the Republican Party.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 20, 2020:
I sure as hell wouldn't miss the corporate Dems pols and their supporters if they left the Dem Party for the Repubs, but I don't ever see it happening in my lifetime. The chances of a third party emerging that got the support of progressives and the poor who don't vote is probably more likely than the Dem Party reforming and again starting to represent the poor and progressives instead of the corporate donors and the liberals in social issues only.
Ah the pleasures of (at this moment in time) living in North Dakota.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 20, 2020:
Iowa isn't much better, and we have the Covid numbers to prove it. Like you, we have an idiot Repub guv who just ordered a toothless mask order, months after even the White House Covid task force said she should have ordered one. Most Iowans are brain dead and voted for Trump. I envy my younger sis, who lives int he blue state of Illinois, where at least they have decent leadership on Covid and people are intelligent enough to vote Dem rather than Repub., even if their state government is more corrupt than Iowa's.

His campaign came up with the brilliant idea (sarcasm) of trying to fabricate him as an environmental candidate so they could get independents and eco-friendly Dems to overlook his policies on economic issues, foreign policy, etc. They brought in a focus group to test this approach on and, needless to say, it didn't sell. No Mask No Service! This is our Health! [reddit.com]
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 16, 2020:
Poor baby. I could have some sympathy for her if she wasn't so selfish and uncaring about the health of others. Even in states, like mine, that don't have mask orders, the stores are private businesses that have always had the right to refuse service if someone refused, for example, to wear a shirt of some kind of footwear. We called it no shirt, no shoes, no service, no shit. As long as they are not enforcing it in a discriminatory manner and the rules do not target a protected class under the law, the stores can turn away anyone they want to under their rules. Unfortunately, in states without mask orders, most non-chain or small business stores won't do a mask rule because they are too chicken to deal with the assholes and are also afraid someone might sue them, both of which are lame reasons to not protect their employees or their more decent customers.

Because if this were allowed to happen, you can bet your ass once word of it got out, the morons would start wearing masks and being much more careful if they knew the medical workers and hospitals would not be there to save them or bail them out. TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 12, 2020:
The problem photos I was seeing on dating sites before I quit them last year were mainly two types. One were all the photos of women with their kids, made me wonder if they were trying to look like mom of the year, even tho the "kids" of women in my age group are all young adults. Second, were women posting photos of them in a group of women, some of whom looked a lot alike, so you wondered which one was the site member. We all hopefully have some friends and it's a good idea to maybe show this in the profile, but equally important is to avoid needlessly confusing your audience in the profile. I mean, hey, this really is sort of an ad campaign, amateur as it may be. This was usually only an issue when the woman's other photos were either outdated or they were covering their eyes or most of their face or hair. If someone's photos suggest they are trying to hide something, which also includes the profiles with all photos being closed mouth and no smiling, then I wonder if they have bad or missing teeth, or, just as bad, that their standard facial expression is "resting bitch face", as my female friends call it. If the photos suggest they're hiding something, I will move on.

TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 11, 2020:
I think there is a lot of truth to what you're saying here. I didn't know that a billionaire was funding BLM, but I have noticed that after several weeks, the national media quit covering the BLM protests, which is telling in itself. I suppose they left it behind to focus on the general election and because both parties had already used the protests to help their campaigns enough that it was no longer useful to cover that story. My biggest gripe about corrupt black leaders and black political pundits was the way they led black voters, esp. older black voters in the South, around by their nose last spring during the primary. Jim Clyburn was the chief sellout as he bashed Bernie and promoted Biden, all against the real interests of his followers. That and Covid sealed the nomination for Biden and black people will get way less done for them under Biden than they would have under Bernie. I'm sure the DNC paid off Clyburn well.
Does anyone have any insights into what the Biden Cabinet will end up looking like?
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 11, 2020:
Magic 8 Ball tells me it will have plenty of black and brown people along with many hacks and members of Goldman Sucks and other Wall Street types. Also members of industries that are supposed to be regulated will be appointed to head those departments charged with regulating them. As Joe said himself, "Nothing will fundamentally change". You can bet the house on that last part.. Won't be surprised to see a couple Repubs. You can bet your ass he won't appoint any progressives, but he will blame that on not being able to get the Repubs to confirm them in the Senate, instead of owning up to how much contempt he has for progressives. And this is the guy that Bernie kept calling "my good friend". That should have told us that Bernie had no intention of really trying to win the nomination and ever going hard to attack Biden's record or policies.
Well done .

And the predicted influx of conservatives and Trumpers begins..... Just respect our intelligence by not saying idiotic or blatantly false things like calling Biden a socialist or far left, because, we who were already here will instantly see thru it and call you on it without any restraint.

The investors are celebrating because of the vaccine news and Biden's win, because both give them more certainty and optimism about the near future of the economy. Both things mean also more stability next year after Trump is gone. I was not surprised at all. The markets clearly are predicting that Trump will be gone in Jan.. and I think they are very astute about those things. I bet they also think the SC will allow the ACA to stand, which I also think will happen.

In a word, yes, we are already most of the way there. And next time, the Repubs will run a candidate that is better than Trump-smarter, more self-control, better speaker- and he will take things even further, bringing in full fascism and becoming a long term or permanent dictator. And in four years he will beat Harris or whatever other corporate neoliberal Dem they nominate.

Sounds accurate to me, at least when it comes to politics. Most Americans, esp. liberals, are like people still living in The Matrix who haven't taken and refuse to take the pill that dissolves their illusions. Probably because they are too fearful and weak to cope with the knowledge that their government can't be trusted, as well as the Dem Party, and that their leaders care only about power and money. And when you challenge their illusions, they just get angry with you and see you as their enemy, not the corrupt leaders that are out to screw both them and you. They treat you as crazy then so they can comfort themselves that you have to be wrong and they must be right, so they can go on feeling comfortable in their illusions.
Now that the election results are mostly in, we can begin the reflection process and start to draw ...
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 9, 2020:
I totally agree that without the pandemic and the economic collapse it caused, Trump would have won in a landslide and I told this prediction to several friends months before the pandemic, along with the offer of a $25 bet on it. Only two took me up on it, and, even after the unexpected events before the election, I am going to keep my word and pay them. They both know they lucked out and would have lost the bet without Covid and the economy collapsing. I have now told them to enjoy their reprieve, because in four years the Dems are sure to lose when they nominate the next corporate stooge. So far, none of those several friends are willing to dispute me on this. As for the final points in the post about strategy, who says, despite their rhetoric, that the Dem leaders really do care about winning control of the branches of congress? It's much easier for them to be in the minority and blame the Repubs than buck their corporate donors and do something to actually earn votes from the peasants.
Not that I ever stopped but hey, now that talking point is eliminated.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 9, 2020:
Amen, and about fucking time. It also helps that Biden is white so the assholes can't blindly call me a racist when I bash him for being a corrupt, corporate neoliberal. It will be interesting how long Biden is able to get praise from black leaders after he doesn't do jack shit for them after the election, except some lip service. He will try to get by on this by appointing plenty of colored folks to his cabinet, but that'll be it. Mere window dressing.

Anyone who thinks Biden can be pushed to the left is either an idiot or deluded, often times both. I don't know about this video being encouraging, since I'm sure almost nobody but us will probably see it. I have never heard about these two people or their media platform, and I try to keep abreast of most alternative media.
And the new theme going is the same as it was with Obama.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 9, 2020:
I agree. I remember how the sheeple celebrated so blindly when Obama won, then fell asleep and complacently settled for all his happy talk instead of him actually doing or fighting for anything to help the masses. And pushing for a healthcare plan that Romney had already done in MA doesn't count as doing anything progressive. We could have had single payer if Obama and the congressional Dems had really wanted it. They could have rammed it down the throats of the Repubs the same way the Repubs do every time they actually want something. And also remember that Obama started out with a majority in the House and a supermajority of 60 in the Senate, but he deliberately squandered that as soon as possible so he could publicly blame the Repubs for not getting better than Romneycare. But the actual truth is that he went into the debate not wanting anything more than that, not even a public option. Russ Feingold even said so after the ACA was passed, that "the president got the bill he wanted all along". Feingold told the truth too much it seems and later lost his Senate seat and has been missing from public life ever since. The diff between Obama and Biden tho is that Biden doesn't have the charm, charisma, or lying skills of Obama, so I don't think his rhetoric of platitudes and generalities will be able to carry him as long as Obama was able to con people. The only ? is how long before Biden steps down and hands off to Harris. Just watch as Biden appoints the same Wall Street and corporate hacks that Obama did, that will tell you in advance everything you need to know about what his policy agenda will be. It sure told me everything to expect from Obama.

TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 9, 2020:
She may not want to see it or admit it, but, even if she doesn't see the DNC and the corporate establishment Dems as her enemy, they very clearly see her as THEIR enemy, which is all that really matters. She needs to wise up and prepare to run for prez in the future as a third party candidate. As they say in the dating game, "they aren't that into you"... You can't make someone treat you right or want you, all you can do is set the terms of what you will accept and what you won't, then be who you are. She may not be old enough to be prez, but she's old enough to understand that.
At this age I should know better than to sit outside for hours with no shoes in November.

TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 8, 2020:
The establishment corporate Dems are actually a bigger roadblock to progressive candidates and policy than the Repubs, and anyone left of center who doesn't hate them as much or more than the Repubs (in my case, the latter), is seriously deluded. These ratfuckers and the Repubs are both our enemies, both politically and in the class war. Too many progressives fail to realize that these selfish liberals and centrists who vote for corporate Dems are class enemies of the working class, but rest assured, working class whites are not similarly deluded. They know damn well the people who support corporate Dems are their class enemies, so they strike back the only way they can, by voting against the corporate Dems and their identity politics fused with multiculturalism. They vote red out of spite and I don't blame them. If I can't vote for something positive for me, and I can vote against the cultural program of my class enemy's party, I will at least seek my revenge that way. That is the thinking of working class whites and as long as the Dem party offers them nothing helpful economically, they will continue to vote Red out of spite for the comfortable suburban liberals and centrists in the party.

Interesting essay of thoughts of a black american after Biden win.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 8, 2020:
The sad fact is that a majority of white Americans still support Trump and his racism. Biden won only because he had overwhelming turnout of black and Hispanic voters, who overwhelmingly voted for him. Without both of these trends, we would still have Trump, which is quite sobering, tho it doesn't surprise me at all. Most of white America is still just as racist as in the sixties. The difference now is that after all those years of PC becoming a dominant cultural feature, Trump's presidency made it acceptable and proud again to be openly racist. I hope that after January most of these people will crawl back under their rocks, but make no mistake, they aren't going away and in four years another racist Repub worse than Trump will be their prez nominee, bringing back out the racist Trumpers in full view again.

Anyone tracking how progressives did in the down ballot? We need to start building the agenda.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 8, 2020:
In my state, the Repubs are still running all three branches of the capitol, even got more redder. It's sad that the statewide newspaper doesn't even report the results anymore for third party candidates in Iowa elections for federal offices, not even prez. Got to silence those protest votes by sending them down the rabbit hole, like they never existed. The fact that Dems did badly across the nation while Biden won says clearly that most Americans do not like or trust the Dems any more than the Repubs, actually less than the Repubs. It means the only reason Biden won is that a very slim majority of Americans were sick of Trump and wanted someone different. Biden functioned as the default "None Of The Above", which would have won in a landslide if it had been on the ballot for prez.
