If I had it my way I would have a women atheist as my president
TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 25, 2020:
I don't give a damn about a candidate's gender, race, or sexual orientation. What matters is policy, character, and integrity, as in can they actually be trusted to carry out those policies if they get power or will they instead just sell out to the ruling class and support the status quo? You would think that voters would wake up and collectively try to give someone a chance at prez that can't be bought...

I don't hate Carrey, but I do hate country music, except when it's wickedly used to make fun of the kind of people that often like it, such as this parody or John Lennon's song Crippled Inside. Carrey is amazing at capturing the singing and talking voices of his characters here.

Time to vote for a third party, at least after this election, if not sooner. After this election, what do we really have to lose by giving a third party a chance, collectively, as voters? At the very least it could actually push the Dems to the left. At the best, it could eventually replace the Dem party for the 99% who are not racist, misogynist, or hung up on religion. It's clear that the Dem party is beyond reform and needs to be replaced.

TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 24, 2020:
Most of the Covid spread these days is because of the young adults who are usually asymptomatic and also know they are at low risk to die or get seriously ill from it. So they are now going on with their lives the same as they did before Covid. Totally self-centered. Meanwhile, almost everybody who is over 60 or even 50, or has a serious health problem, has figured out that they need to self quarantine as much as possible until there is a vaccine or an effective treatment available to them. So the latter group is living like second class citizens while the young can enjoy all the re-opened bars and restaurants and other entertainment options. I can accept and live with that status as an older adult, but what I really resent is these young adults continuing to go about their lives with no caution while also going to grocery stores and refusing to wear masks there, all because they are being selfish. Those are the only places I have to encounter young adults and it's not asking too damn much for them to mask up for those stores where they will encounter older people, including store staff. Unfortunately the grocery stores are too chickenshit or uncaring about their staff to require masks, at least where I live. So I have to either take my chances being around unmasked young adults there or go during the geezer hour where masks are required. So much for enjoying the reward of retirement so I can sleep in every day. But even with the geezer hour, the stores are not protecting their workers by not requiring masks so they can be chickenshit and not deal with angry younger customers who won't wear masks. There is already plenty of resentment between Boomers and Millenials and this behavior by so many is not going to help. It's certainly something I will remember for the rest of this decade.

Is video dating here to stay?
TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 19, 2020:
I'm thinking it may well stick around after Covid is passed on, but it will depend on how much it increases prices for the dating sites or how much it costs if it's sold as an add-on feature. I know it would be an attractive feature for women if it allowed them to chat without having to give the man their phone number or e-mail addy early on in the process. That would be the main appeal, getting to chat in real time with a prospect without the risk or stalking or harassment later. As a male, I'm not afraid of giving out my phone number or e-mail after a reasonable amount of time trading messages with someone thru a dating site early on, but then again I've never been stalked or had to worry about my personal safety from anyone I've met thru the dating process.
Dating During a Pandemic: 'Love Is Not Canceled'
TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 19, 2020:
There will always be exceptions, such as the people mentioned in the article, even among older singles who have more health risk by meeting people to date during Covid. Probably most of those people taking the risk are just too lonely to resist risking their health to meet prospective partners. But I still sense that most people, esp. in the over 60 age group, esp. women, who tend to be less desperate and more health sensible than men, are still choosing to sit this out until Covid is over. Otherwise, why would all the dating sites be offering such huge discounts now?

Country Radio (Not me, just something horrible I saw on FB🙄)
TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 19, 2020:
Sounds like you got to experience what I so far only dream of in nightmares, namely that when I die I go to my own personal version of hell- a place where the only radio stations are country music format done karaoke style (not that I have any aversion to karaoke) and those stations as well as all the other humans there are Trumpers. I hope you are able to escape your personal hell sometime soon by avoiding that station. If you can't find another one you like, you will have to do what most of us hipsters here in Iowa do, namely pay for satellite radio, keep some CDs in your vehicle to play, or play your smart-phone's music thru your vehicle's system. Your story reminds me of what happened in my local area way back in the mid 1990s. We had a really cool AAA-Eclectic station(Adult Alternative Album format, as they say in the radio biz). One morning I woke up and tuned into it to find that the station had been sold and was now, wait for it, Lazer 103.3, which was now a Metal Rock format. Yup, music for meathead fans of Black Sabbath etc., and other metal groups.. That was when I began listening to public radio for anything better as well as local commercial stations that had pop/rock formats. But mostly, it meant bringing tapes or CDs with me whenever I had any long car trips outside the local area. I now have the money that I could afford satellite radio, but why pay for it when I almost am never in my car for more than a half hour at a time? If you are still having trouble getting over it and my suggestions don't help, you can always follow the advice in the movie Animal House and " start drinking heavily" or start heavy drug use, whatever works for you......

TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 19, 2020:
I'm not surprised that there are way more men than women who are declared non-believers. I will probably get bashed as sexist for saying this, but I think it's because of gender differences regarding how women are more relationally-oriented than men. In the sense that women are generally more concerned with seeking and maintaining relationships with a community and network of friends and relatives than men. And thus, they are less likely than men to go out on a limb and risk isolation or alienation by taking such a non-conformist path as non-belief. Because such a path means being so far outside of the mainstream that it will be much more challenging for a woman (or man) to find a community or network of like-minded people who will provide fellowship and some kind of church education for their children. So my guess is that women more than men will knuckle under and keep their non-belief to themselves or in denial so they can reap the social benefits of involvement with believer churches and religious organizations. Men are more willing to buck the mainstream and go without those benefits than women because they are less relation-oriented as well as less child-oriented.

TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 19, 2020:

Not to worry. The SC won't overturn Roe v. Wade. They care too much about the Repubs being able to win elections and know that if they did, the Repubs would lose so many female voters that they would be doomed in future elections. Otherwise, they would have done it decades ago as they have had the votes for it as far back as the last three decades. On the other hand, they will use the SC for every other kind of ratfuckery short of repealing the whole ACA, also because that would lose elections for the Repubs, who have no plan for how they would replace it.
Thanks for trying to hang on, Justice RBG.
TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 18, 2020:
If that comes to pass, then there's nothing left to do but get in the streets and revolt, whether violently or not, because if it's just allowed to stand, then fascism will be out in the open and tolerated. After that, further elections will be pointless once that precedent is set.

TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 18, 2020:
My guess is that there are way more non-believing men than women because most women are very focused on having kids and being involved in churches so they have somewhere to take them for religious education and community with other young families. Men are more interested in just finding a partner than shopping for a place that offers things for kids and families, so they do not need a church as much for their goals. Non-believing men can find women thru many other ways than church, but churches are a convenient and widely available way for believer women to meet their wider goals for kids and family after they find a partner.
I feel this way sometimes...

I hate that looks are as important as they are when trying to date. So tired of being rejected
TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 17, 2020:
I like you, Marcie, based on your posts and comments for what they seem to say about your character. So I hope my being brutally honest here doesn't offend you. I have seen your profile pics and based on my own online dating experience in the last couple years as well as the things I have heard from others in the dating game, my take is that when someone seems to be, at least in their mind, continually getting rejected by others over their looks, it is often because they are trying to date "out of their own league" when it comes to looks. I have had it happen to me plenty when I tried to approach women on Match that were clearly a couple notches higher than me on the looks scale. So maybe you need to consider altering your expectations or standards of how attractive a man has to be on the looks scale for you to be interested in him. I won't give your looks a number, as I know that will get me bashed on here, if not by you, by other women. But you are definitely above average-looking even if you are not average weight. Some men, like me, are ok with that, most aren't, which is sad. I will use my own experience and be very concrete in my example of how this works. I tried online dating for two years. I would rate my own looks as a 5 or a 6 at best. I met a few dozen women in this time in person. Not one of them who would meet me a second time or more were above a 7. Of course, all of these numbers are subjective and my own judgement. The one woman who I thought was a 7 went out with me twice and seemed to have a nice time being with me, but when I tried to kiss her at the end of the second date, she pulled back like I had cooties. The one woman that I dated for more than two meetings was someone that I got along with well and we dated for about six months before Covid and my lack of physical attraction to her ended it. I enjoyed affection with her, but there just wasn't enough attraction on my part to sustain it physically. Her level of looks, at least to me, were a 4 or a 5. I honestly kept seeing her, I think, because I really enjoyed her friendship and wanted the companionship. I feel guilty that I didn't end it sooner, which she did once Covid started here. I was selfish and cowardly in how I handled it and hope I learned some things I will do better and differently next time after Covid is over. Let the bashing and gender-shaming begin....

TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 16, 2020:
The further this goes, the more I think they are wanting to lose, partly because the party leaders and their donors are fine with Trump's policies on trade, taxes, healthcare, war, etc. and also because they would rather have Trump stuck with the blame and burden of having to govern with Covid and the economy. As for the BLM movement and racial injustice, the DNC doesn't care about solving that, they are more interested in having that issue to raise money and fire up their base and bash the Repubs with. Corporate America also loves having the BLM movement and racial injustice around so they can virtue signal and pander to customers without having to actually give up any power or give up any of their profits.

As far as your point about these people rejecting any forms of humanistic tendencies as weakness, I have generally seen that trait in most conservatives as well. Another part of your post is quite ironic and that is the point that these rednecks consider liberals to be weak. It reminds me of Jesse Ventura's controversial quote that he considered religious people weak because they needed the crutch of religion to cope with life. Two sides of the same coin?

Only then does he publicly make any criticisms of them. He is a coward and has no real convictions or principles. Such a change from his glory days of Watergate. Nowadays he is content to have his big money from books, his continued access to all the presidents, and his fame. He couldn't care less about the good of the country, patriotism, or reporting the truth to the people. He is too chickenshit to be critical of a president publicly when that president is popular or as soon as he knows they are lying because he puts his own interests ahead of the truth or the good of the country. He doesn't want to lose his access to the powerful when it looks like they will be in power for quite a while longer, because that would kill his access to writing his next book.

TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 2, 2020:
Our main problems in the US, besides bare-knuckles capitalism and plutocracy, are this obedience and the extreme individualism that is practically a religion of its own here.

I'm surprised they didn't just tell him to leave, call the cops, and then wait silently and passively until he either left or the cops showed up and let them escort the asshole out. Trying to talk to him was a waste of time and only encouraged him to stay and have the last word. It also allowed additional risk of him infecting the staff with his yelling and spitting.
Since the title of this section is "Love & Relationships" this is the place for this post.
TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 1, 2020:
Some people are naive or innocent enough to think that love and relationships are just like on TV and movies. The rest of us are lucky enough to be older and wiser. Lust and infatuation at first sight happen. Love takes much longer to be real and lasting.
My daughter posted these in defense of Kyle Rittenhouse.

Mmmmmm.... anybody see a resemblance to what Liberals are doing today?
TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 1, 2020:
I have no doubt that Trump's followers and minions are carrying this out on the streets where there are protests, but most Americans are too dumb and ignorant of history to catch on to this. Plus, the corporate media is no help as they won't investigate or expose this. They are just as complicit in maintaining the status quo and our security state.
What is the correct answer?
TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 1, 2020:
The correct answer is however many fingers The Party wants it to be. On a more practical level, any answer given will not stop the torture. Like the WWII saying, " The daily beatings will continue until morale improves", or, my personal favorite, the line from Cool Hand Luke, " I wish you'd quit being so good to me, Captain"..
I received a notification from Agnostic that I have a new follower! I've pasted her bio here.

Where I live just about all businesses are requiring masks for customers, even tho my Repub governor won't order masks in public or allow local governments to require them. The only stores I've seen that don't require them for customers are grocery stores, probably because they are too chickenshit to confront customers and deal with the hassles. It's possible they are afraid of losing customers over it, but some customers are worth losing if they endanger the healthy of your employees and other customers. And the grocery stores probably know that most customers would support a mask requirement. If all the grocery stores required them, then the customer would have to suck it up and comply or else order their groceries for pickup or delivery. Too fucking bad if they refuse to mask up and have to go those routes.

It really stinks that we have to depend on corporate America to start implementing mask restrictions because our Repub governors and prez are not willing to do it.

Watched the rest of the video and feel sad that most blacks in SC and the Super Tuesday states chose to listen to Uncle Tom Clyburn and other corrupt black leaders instead of Nina Turner, a black leader who is the real thing. I like her term for the ruling class who control both parties, the "owner-donors".

I have now watched most of the video and the best part was the platform. If we could get even a fraction of that implemented, it would be such an improvement on the status quo. The only platform part I would disagree with might be the animal rights plank, as I don't want to become a vegetarian and that trying to force that on all Americans would be a losing strategy. Most Americans would never stand for it. It would be like trying to take away all guns from Americans.

Too bad Bernie cares more about his token standing in the Senate than actually changing the system, or he'd be there instead of shilling for Joe at the DNC. Thanks for posting the link. I'll try to watch some of it this week.

Good one. Somehow I see Ron Swanson from Parks And Rec, which is who is in your pic, as either a Trump voter or someone who would vote Libertarian because for him even Trump would not be anti-government enough for him.
