TomMcGiverin replies on Mar 7, 2020:
@RoboGraham Your point about the Bernie Bros being a tiny problem compared to our widespread society problems is right on, and I have seen that counter-argument being used by both Bernie and his surrogates in the corporate media, but I wonder how effective it is, when most Americans do not get nuance or complexity in discussions. I admit that all they have to attack Bernie on is his socialist label, his remarks on Cuba and other governments that aren't capitalists, and the Bernie Bros. Warren was really a snake in her interview with Rachel Maddow smearing Bernie as much as she could on the Bernie Bros issue.

TomMcGiverin replies on Mar 7, 2020:
@RoboGraham It's possible that the economy may crash before the election, at least the stock market, because of the coronavirus, and if it does, Trump might lose because of that and his mismanagement of it. Unlike Hurricane Katrina, which W totally blew, this crisis will affect most working class white people, including many who voted for Trump.

TomMcGiverin replies on Mar 7, 2020:
@RoboGraham I often wonder tho if the whole Bernie Bros thing might really be a false flag run against Bernie by online trolls who are really Russian or Repub operatives. These days, you can't be too paranoid. I have heard Bernie suggest that the Bernie Bros thing might be a fake thing perpetrated by people who aren't his supporters that is done to hurt him. Whether that is or isn't the case, there really isn't a good way to defend himself on that without airtight proof of a plot, because the feminists will never believe him if he denies it without proof.

TomMcGiverin replies on Mar 7, 2020:
@RoboGraham Now that you've explained it, I totally agree. I also think that all the Russiagate stuff from the Dems and corporate media during the last couple years served two purposes as well. It allowed them to fill air time during the Bernie blackout and it also served as a distraction on how the Dems were not even attempting to serve the interests of the masses while blaming their loss in 2016 on anyone but Hillary and the party's contempt for working class Americans. The point of my earlier post is that it was a waste of time as far as actually trying to remove him from office or hurt his re-election chances.

@RussRAB As I said above, to me character is a separate thing from identity politics. Identity politics is bad for our democracy because it encourages tribalism, which is making our political choices too much on whether a candidate is part of our "tribe" by being gay, the same gender or race, etc. My prime example in the US is all the black voters, mainly older blacks, who voted for Biden on Tue., mainly because Biden was Obama's VP, so these blacks transferred their loyalty to Biden, even tho Biden's record does not show great loyalty or alliance towards blacks on policy. But tribalism trumps policy and character in this case. Same thing four years ago with blacks who voted for Hillary in the primaries only because her husband Bill was popular with blacks. Neither Clinton, Bill or Hillary, nor Obama or Biden ever did that much for the economic situations of most working class black people, but they did fill their cabinets with black people and helped the black upper class. But working class blacks seem content to settle for the scraps of having people who look like them in those prez administrations because of their tribal loyalty. Suckers......

Many people in unions have figured out that their leadership are corrupt and have sold out to the corporations. The culinary union workers in Nevada voted in favor of the interests of themselves and their children rather than those of their leaders. If only most workers were that aware and smart. The union workers knew that their children needed M4A because their kids were unlikely to be able to follow them into good union jobs. They also knew that they could lose their union health insurance easily if they went on strike or their employers decided to screw them out of it later in their retirement.

A choir that sang Sixties tunes would be wonderful for me, but it ain't happening here and not likely to ever happen while I am alive.... There are choirs around the US like what you describe, just not in central Iowa. If I wanted to move hundreds of miles away to Chicago or Minneapolis, even, I am sure I could find something like that, but it's not worth it to me to relocate just to have a choir to sing in....Karaoke is my substitute, where I sing what I want to when I want to...On the on the other hand, with karaoke I have to put up with listening to the bad singers and all the country music, which I hate, that is sung by a good number of the singers at any given karaoke show...

I used to sing in choirs all during my school years and nowadays I get my singing fix at karaoke shows. Joining a choir might work for most, but I am very picky about what kinds of music I want to sing, the same as most of us are particular about what types of sermons or programs we would want to listen to. For me, joining a choir would have to be one that only performed pop or rock music, like in that movie Young At Heart, about the choir for senior citizens. Since that is never going to happen in Iowa, even in my local area of Des Moines, I am done with choirs. I have no desire to spend my time rehearsing and performing music that bores or does not interest me, while all the while having no say in the selection of music for the choir, which is how almost all of them operate anyway....

@mordant I would like to see those changes you are predicting because we really need a major party in the US that is on the side of workers. The reason why Sanders brings in these groups of people you mentioned, who usually don't vote, is because he speaks to people who have been ignored by the major parties and who have otherwise given up hope on the political process. Because these people have seen little difference between the two parties of the duopoly and that neither party would fight on their behalf for economic justice and against the power of the rich and corporations. Notice how none of the other Dem candidates will even mention poverty in America and even Bernie says little about it either. The American people are progressive enough on policy to vote for Bernie, it's the media and party leadership that are not progressive at all on Bernie's issues. The people seem to be waking up to this on some level. I also want to comment on WallStreet Pete..... What an asshole.. He loses to Bernie by over 20 points and yet he spends the majority of his post-caucus speech bashing Bernie.
