Another example is that in 1974 and 75 I went to the Paediatric Ward of the Hospital where I was working dressed as Santa with 3 very buxom 'Fairies' and 1 slightly embarrassed 'Elf' ( but his embarrassment is another story btw...LOL), the kids there were either sick or injured, away from home and family, ages ranged between 3 and 4 years old right through to 10 and 12 year olds, and they were thrilled that 'Santa' had made a special extra trip BEFORE Xmas Day just for them. For days after that little 'surprise Santa visit, those kids had brightened up no end, so, imo, a LITTLE harmless fantasy is a great thing for kids and often grown-ups alike. I think I know where you are coming from here. I've been a Child/Youth crisis Counselor for well over 20+ years now, the last 15+ years I've been doing it all on a Pro Bono basis and as semi-retired voluntary basis as well. I've lost count, thankfully, of the numbers of times where I've been used as FREE therapist for those with 'so-called' problems that could easily be solved/rectified with little more than a bit of thinking/consideration, etc, rather than merely using me as a sounding post. One such case that I remember quite clearly is the one where a man came up to me seeking a solution to the 'problem' of his partner, a male btw, of farting in bed and NOT picking up his clothing BEFORE going to bed. Now HOW on Earth can a Social Worker, Psychologist, Counselor be expected to find a solution to that when, like I have, more often than not, had actual REAL clients who are in REAL need of my assistance I do not know? I have had and still have 'clients,' some as young as 5 or 6 years of age who are so deeply troubled that they either considered suicide or have even attempted it at least once or more times, yet this person is 'toubled' by something so minor and even trivial. Imo, there SEEMS to be a kind of 'fashionable trend' in the U.S.A. for people to seek out Therapy, Psychological, etc, etc, for even the most trivial things, things that, imo, CAN be resolved by mere interaction, thought, consideration, etc, etc. WITHOUT external help. Stick with it friend, do your best and work on developing what I call my " Empathy Sensor system". After a while and practicing, it seems to automatically 'sniff out' the real and distinguish it from the Psycho-somatic.

Well that is GOOD NEWS considering that I was reading my monthly Psychologists Newsletter last evening where in it was a finalized International Survey ( Western Cultures mostly) that shows that the Suicide rates between those who are religious and those who are NOT are vastly different. I.e. on a world-wide, western culture basis it has found and proven conclusively that approx. 85% of Suicides, successful or unsuccessful are committed by those with a religious faith and of the estimated 15% of the unsuccessful attempts 11% who have remained religious re-attempt suicide numerous times until successful BUT those who leave religion/religious beliefs AFTER making an unsuccessful attempt at suicide, 4%, seek psychological help voluntarily and never attempt suicide again.

Humans ARE, imo, akin to viruses since we move into a new ecosystem, alter it to suit ourselves and ourselves alone, breed up like a virus and when the resources, aka, HOSTS, are no longer useful, we move on again and start the whole process over and over again. Imo, a PRIME example of this IS Australia. Christians and Christianity usually always built their churches, etc, OVER the top of much older temples, altars and even on top of graveyards(cemeteries, etc) once used by other cultures as their, not so subtle, way of saying " Our God and Belief IS the only one." The Vatican in Rome is built on top of a vast network of ancient Roman Catacombs, during its building the skeletal remains of thousands of roman 'commoners' were removed and destroyed just for the self-same reason AND so the Vatican could re-use the catacombs as storage spaces for their huge treasure troves, etc.

That may be so in the minds of the Faithfools BUT we, the Atheists, Agnostics, etc, etc, did NOT start this imaginary 'War,' the advent of Christianity, and in some part Islam as well, started the whole thing. The Sciences, Logic, Reasoning and the like are, imo, Polar Opposites to Religions and Religious Beliefs. As a Psychologist with well over 20+ years in the practice as both a Child/Youth in Crisis Counselor and Child/Youth Psychologist, I'd have to state categorically that there is NOTHING in religion/religiousness that is even remotely either beneficial nor advantageous to aiding the Mental, Physical, Emotional and Psychological Development of ANY child. Nor does religion teach children the TRUE meaning of Altruism, Community, Individuality, etc, etc. Religions such as Christianity and Islam, imo, seek to restrict, hamper and hinder, etc, the development/s of ALL things and replace them with a FALSE sense of security amongst those who are simply afraid to be themselves.

No thanks, If I want a nice scented fire in winter then I just a log or two of either Mulga, Black Box or Yellow Box. Burning Mulga gives off a sweet, spicy aroma, Black Box, a scent of freshly baked bread, Yellow Box, a scent of Honey mixed with Cinnamon. The aromas last for hours and hours as well. Forgot to add an Aussie outback warning her. NEVER burn what we call 'Crazy Bush/Crazy weed on your campfire in the Aussie outback, it issues copious amounts of sweet smelling smoke that both attracts birds and animals but also makes them and humans alike wander around in circles for a few hours as they breath in the smoke. No idea what the Botanical name for it is BUT in September, 2012 a group of Asian Tourists decided to use it on their camp-fire and were found stark naked and wandering around in circles the next morning.
