TristanNuvo comments on Nov 9, 2018:
I don't think I can articulate just how much disdain I have for Bill O'Reilly, and others like him. They pander to the least common denominator and use "fear" to entice their audience. At best, they use some un-truths, Spin, and any measure to make a story more believable, no matter how unsubstantiated it really is. The saddest thing though,.. Is many believe him.Even though actual historians, and Scientists will De-bunk what he says, they still believe him. Here is a perfect example. the "Tide Goes In, Tide Goes Out" one. And I could make examples like this all day. https://youtu.be/wb3AFMe2OQY https://youtu.be/8Nikg4hMRjs
Hello all.
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 9, 2018:
Welcome, Glad to have you here. :)
I almost forgot today's question.
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 9, 2018:
Not even a close contest for me. I would be mind hands down. One of my favorite things to do in life is learning new things. If I didn't have that, I'd rather be dead.

TristanNuvo comments on Nov 9, 2018:
I'm not going to give the number, but yes, I was tested over 120. To be honest it is a lot of times more of a curse that anything. By that I mean I seem to way over think things, sometimes i can't fall asleep because I'm working out some problem in my head. Thinking all the time makes it hard to focus on one thing at a time. One of the smartest things I've learned, is that there is always some one smarter. Which I love, because I love nothing more that learning.

Alone for the holidays.
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 8, 2018:
About every other year or so, I'll fly up to CT. to spend the holidays with my mom and step dad. It's always a great time, but expensive. When I stay here, i have some friends to hang with, and even if I am alone, I'll still have a way to have some fun.
I'm confused! As non believers, why are people talking about celebrating Christmas? Hmmm
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 8, 2018:
I love the holiday season, especially Christmas. I have no notions of the religious aspects ( which were stolen anyway), but i love shit like lights trees, decorations, all of it. One doesn't have to be religious to enjoy some fun.

Just curious on members belief in extraterrestrial life.
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 8, 2018:
Well, If one goes by 'Drakes' equation, there is a strong chance that there is other life out there, but to what level they might be isn't so simple. If you go by chemically, we are made up of the same main stuff that the universe is, so again the possibility does favor positively that there is more life out there. But the notion of life out there being anything similliar to us is not too likely. the human race being what it is now went through a LOT of changes to the planet, and the environment, and other species dying off. the list is very long. the chances of having that happen again the same way some where else, is practically nill.

Given (hypothetically or literally) that there is no afterlife, does life have meaning?
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 8, 2018:
IMHO, and I can only speak of myself on this but. It's because that life is finite that I try to make the best of the time I have. Learning, Exploring, reading, Writing, Music, arts, compassion, empathy, love. This list could go on for days. I think if I were a believer in the afterlife, I Wouldn't enjoy these things as much because I might just coast through awaiting what comes next. Just my 2 cents.

Going to shave the lady tickler off.
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 6, 2018:
Myself, I go through spurts. I'll go for a week, and not shave, and my facial grows fast. But then sometimes I'll just shave it all off, I can never make up my mind. Same goes with my hair. Sometimes I'll let it grow out long, and then sometimes I hate the long hair, and get it chort. I seem to never be able to make up my mind..
I said this before and I feel like I should say it again.
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 6, 2018:
I was never a believer. I was fortunate enough to have not been raised in a religious household. So I was never "brainwashed" into anything.
What are your intellectual turn ons?
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 6, 2018:
The topic really isn't that important to me, I just like to be with some one who can hold a good conversation. The best case for me would be if we each learned something from one another. Plus, I'd like them to want to learn new things as much as I do. In fact, learning something together would be nice. So going to lectures, museums, observratories, etc. would be something to do rather just going out to eat, or coffee all the time.
I'm a relatively new member here.
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 5, 2018:
This is just something that I have observed, well, and lived. Most of the people here have been around the block (so to speak) plenty of times. So it, as i imagine, most want to get a good ' feeling' about another. Sometimes what they post, sometimes what they comment. The only thing I can posture is have some patience. There are some great people here. It might just take a bit to warm up to some.

Steve Bannon warns that women are going to 'take charge of society'
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 4, 2018:
It doesn't matter to me one bit of which sex is in charge. What is wrong with the way things are going, (and the list of that is a few miles long), has nothing to do with gender. The way our government is run is far beyond deplorable. It goes much farther than who is president atm. Just my 2 cents.
What Is Everyone Reading?
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 4, 2018:
I am in the middle of re-reading Astrophysics for People in a Hurry, by ; Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Although I do have a bit of a Physics background, I pale in comparison to the majors of that field. Neil Puts forth some complex ideas into laymens terms, and still make it interesting. He seems to do that a lot, especially when he hosted Cosmos. Any way, it's a good read. I highly recomend it.

The Final Sermon I Should Have Preached
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 2, 2018:
Very familiar with the Clergy project. I love that there is such a welcoming support for them. I've seen and read of a lot of members. What they went through, the negativity they get from just about every one in their fold. But the part I like the most is seeing the success stories, where they found their niche outside of the church, and get on with their lives. One of my favorite speakers on the subject is Jerry Dewit. I've seen many vids of him speaking to people and telling his story.

I've always been a fan of Billy. He's had quite a few real good stand up specials. He's not really known for it as much as say Richard Dawkins as an outspoken Atheist, and Anti-theist, mainly because most only know of him from movies, and TV shows, but he's been out there talking about it for a very long time.
Please share any fun thing that you did on Halloween.
TristanNuvo comments on Nov 1, 2018:
I was at the homeless shelter that I volunteer at. We had earlier in the week put up some decorations and such on the main deck where every one eats, meets, or what ever gathering there might be. It's pretty big, so every one could attend. there was no way to get every one into costume, but a few organizations that donate often all came with gift bags full of candy and such. there was even a band that came, and played a few halloween tunes. It was great to have every one have a great time there.

TristanNuvo comments on Nov 1, 2018:
Been a Sabbath fan since I was about nine. I was a Cello player in school at the time. Much to my mother's dismay, 'Paranoid', was the first album I ever bought. I heard Iron man playing in an arcade one day, and I was hooked. She said fine, but listen to it with headphones on. I still do the classical stuff. But i am also a metal head at heart.
