Behemoth, bully, thief: how the English language is taking over the planet | News | The Guardian
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 27, 2018:
I used to be a Chef here in Florida, which meant a large part of the staff are Mexican. It was in my best interest to learn Spanish. It wasn't really hard, and a lot of them spoke English and Spanish, and they were a great help in communicating, Teaching me a bunch.
Things to remember: Be kind.

What's for dinner?
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 27, 2018:
I made a big platter of sushi. Tuna, and some shrimp, and some salmon, cucumber, kelp., and some roe, avacado. And A creamy spicy sauce I make. We have a really nice Asian market near here and they have all the stuff you need. Sharing it with a friend, and some wine. :)

Have you ever noticed SOME religious people are some of the most unhappy?
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 27, 2018:
I've met quite a few people that have a problem, or sadness, or something or other. And their solution is to keep praying. Soon enough god will answer my prayers. So they wait and worry. Non believers though, will actually do something about what ever it is.

TristanNuvo comments on Jul 27, 2018:
Actually I have quite a few real good friends that are believers. Some are religious, some are not. But we get along great. We have much more in common that belief in a god.

It does seem so

TristanNuvo comments on Jul 27, 2018:
Well, he wasn't a religious leader, he's a real good friend. He is very religious, but not pushy. Actually he is one of the most thoughtful and caring people I know. He's a millionare, and yet he spends (like I do0 volunteering at a homeless shelter. He knows that I am an Atheist. Like I said, he never pushes his beliefs on any one, but he has told me that it really saddens him that he won't get to be with me in heaven.

Anyone have any real luck with finding someone on this site?
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 27, 2018:
I didn't actually come here for the dating aspect, I came here for a nice place to converse with like minded people and not get blasted with religious nut jobs. Hopefully over time I'll make some good friends here, most I've met have been really nice. However, if it did happen that I really connected with some one, I might give it a try.

TristanNuvo comments on Jul 27, 2018:
I can't say too much about dating, however I do have a few very good friends that are believers. They know I am an Atheist and they don't care. In fact even though we don't share the same beliefs, they like the fact that I stand up for myself when some real religious people try to argue with me. So, I could see if they say it's not important, it could very much work. JMHO.

Has anything ever happened in a restaurant that made you walk out?
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 27, 2018:
I used to be a chef, so I know all of the problems that can happen, and believe me a lot can go wrong. One of the most common is when the kitchen gets slammed. That is usually caused by the hostess seating every one at once and the servers scramble to take everyones order. and the kitchen gets every order at once, which makes prepairing every thing takes a little while, so some that are waiting for their order will have to wait a while, which sucks. Another is having a special dish or two. As a chef you can only guess how many might be served, you don't want to buy too much of an item be it fish, or seafood, or anything else that doesn't have a long shelf life, so if you don't sell them you are kind of screwed. at the same time you don't want to get too little so you don't run out. I've had the latter happen many times, and I know how frustrating it can be to a customer that ordered the spacial, only to have the server come back after a while and say, sorry we are all out of that dish. But to answer your question. Yes I have. But only a few times, and it's never just one thing. It's usually a mix of a terrible server, Bad food, ( I don't mean not a good recipie, I mean Food that has gone bad), but they serve it any way. Over or under cooked food. It hasn't happened often, but, yes I have.

Your favorite meatloaf recipe, and go.
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 27, 2018:
Cioppino (Fishermans stew). It's an Italian dish, but was created in San Fran. They have a large Italian community there with some great resturaunts. Cioppino Recipe Prep time: 30 minutesCook time: 45 minutesYield: Serves 8 INGREDIENTS Seafood: Add what ever you like. Clams, oisters, fish, crab, shrimp etc. It works best when you add a few that you like. Sauce 1/2 cup olive oil 1 1/2 cups chopped onion (1 large onion) 1 cup chopped bell pepper (1 large bell pepper) 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 teaspoon salt 1 28-ounce can tomatoes Broth from Clams, shrimp, etc. 2 cups red wine 2 cups tomato juice 2 cups fish or shellfish stock An herb bouquet of bay leaf, parsley, and basil wrapped in a layer of cheesecloth and secured with kitchen string Salt and pepper to taste 1/2 cup minced parsley for garnish Optional seasonings: a dash of Tabasco sauce and or Worcestershire sauce 1 Steam clams and mussels: Steam mollusks (clams and mussels) in a small amount of water (about two cups) until they just open. Set aside. Strain and reserve the cooking broth. 2 Prepare the cooked crab: Remove the crab legs from the body and use a nutcracker to crack the shells so that the meat can be easily removed once it is served (leave the meat in the shell). If you pick out the crab meat, try to keep it in big chunks. Keep the top shell of the crab for making stock. Note you can use prepared fish or shellfish stock, or you can make your own. If you are not making your own stock, you can discard the crab top shell body. If prepared shellfish stock is not available, I would combine some prepared fish stock (available at many markets) 3 Prepare the shrimp: Split the shrimp shells down the back and remove the black vein. Alternatively, you can shell the shrimps and devein them. Shell-on imparts more flavor; shell-off is easier to eat. 4 Make the soup base: In a deep 8-quart covered pot, sauté onions and bell pepper on medium heat in olive oil until soft. Add the garlic, sauté 1 minute more. Add tomatoes, broth from the mollusks, red wine, tomato juice, fish or shellfish stock, the herb bouquet, and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer and cook, uncovered, for 20 minutes. Remove herb bouquet. Taste and correct seasoning. 5 Add fish and shellfish: Add the fish and cook, covered, until the fish is just cooked through, about 3 to 5 minutes. Add the steamed mollusks, crabmeat, and shrimp. Heat just until shrimp are cooked (just 2-3 minutes, until they are bright pink). Do not overcook. I find it best to serve with some garlic beard to suck up some of the sauce. I'm a huge seafood lover and this is one of my favorites.

This is my understanding.
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 24, 2018:
Honestly if you want to describe Atheists as those that believe that that no god exists, there is a slight difference in my understanding. I am an Atheist because no evidence has been brought forth that a god does indeed exists. They can't prove that there is a god, and I can not prove that one does not exists. But I can say That there has been no emperical evidence that has been brought forth to prove that indeed a god does exists. So my default has to be that I can not believe in something that has not been proven.l

My mom. I had an abusive father, and I left home at about 16. I was lucky to have been picked up by my aunt and uncle who I lived with through High School. Me ended up divorcing my father a little while later because she couldn't handle the way he treated me. After a few years I reunited with my mom, and we had a great heart to heart talk. W really bonded on that, and we've been very tight ever since. My mom since then re-maried to a great man, they are very happy together. I live in FL. and they live in CT. once a year around christmas, or thanks giving I'll fly up there and spend about a week with them. Other wise we talk on the phone a lot. She is easilly the person I trust most.

I think that sometimes it's not just the blood and gore. a lot of the times there is a hero type, or a few people that are trying to survive the monster, killer etc. so the horror factor as greusom as it may be, people have some one to root for, the worse the peril, the stronger the bond with the ones being hunted. that's just a thought. I could be wrong. I liked such movies like, jaws, Alien and such when I was a kid, but that kind of thing doesn't really appeal to me any more with an exception or two here and there. On that same thought though, I do love when when show or a movie has a good twist (which is great original writing), when you find a conflict in who the 'hero' is. A few examples are Dexter, a serial killer, yet he is the one every one roots for. And Breaking bad. Walter white is a meth maker/dealer, and he's killed people, yet we root for him. Game of Thrones is a great example of that but even more. It is very violent, bloody, but characters change so much through the story that it's hard to tell who to root for but it is exciting. I've heard this same question offered about Video games. In that case I think it's an outlet to do something in extreems that one could not do in real life.
