Pick one and tell me how you would solve it: National Debt, Child hunger in USA, Homeless Veterans.
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 19, 2018:
I wouldn't know how to 'fix' any of those. But I do try to help the homeless. I volunteer at a homeless shelter. It's called Pinellas Hope. there around 500 people here, most are vets. This place is really great because it's not just a place to stay, we have GED classes, a computer room so people can apply for benifits, food stamps, jobs etc. There are personal councelors, Therapists, AA meetings. There is a mobile med that comes every wednesday as well. The goal here is go help people get back on their feet, and it works very well. The place is very well known so we get donations all the time. things like blankets, clothes, food etc. There a lot of organizations that come here and bring lunch, or dinner for every one. I wish there were a lot more places like this.

Very first concert you attended?
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 19, 2018:
Oh man. It's really hard to say. a few friends and I used to go to a bajillion clubs and barsto see all kind of punk bands back then. If I had to guess it would have to be the Ramones at CBGB's. I think my first real concert though was around 1884 at the New Haven collisium. It was Metallica's Master of Puppets, opening up for Ozzy's Ultimate sin tour. So I can actually say that I got to see Cliff Burten while he was still alive.

Anyone else here come from an abusive family?
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 18, 2018:
My father was very abusive to me physicaly and mentally. Finally at 16 after a rather bad one, I walked to my room, packed some stuff in a bag. I walked right by him and said 'You no longer have a son. That was the last time I ever saw him. I was lucky though, my aunt and uncle took me in. It was very liberating, but to this day every some times I still have nightmares. On a good note though, My mom divorced him over that. a few years later when I got to meet my mother again, and we bonded. We've been very close ever since.

How unusual is it for men to not like sports?
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 17, 2018:
I grew up in Pittsburgh in the 70's. I was real tight with my grandfather, and I guess from his perspective men should watch sports, so naturally he turned me onto a bunch of sports. Now the thing is, back in the early 70's pittsburgh was not a city of winners. And then The Pirates won 2 world series, the penguins won a stanley cup, and the Steelers won 4 superbowls. Seing all that happen as I was growing up had a great impact on me. I don't really watch most sports any more, but I am, and always be a Steelers fan for life.

I really remember that era. I was a huge space buff back then. I had posters on my walls of the Mercury guys, mostly John Glen. Then came the Appolow Missions. Man I don't even have words to describe the heroism it took to actually set foot on the moon. Balls made of steel those guys had. One of the things that really pisses me off are the moon landing hoax nut jobs. Man I just wand to punch them in the head. Here's an example of what I mean. Beall's List of Predatory Journals and Publishers - Publishers
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 16, 2018:
It's even worse tha n manipulating the peer reviewed process. I see more and more often. Many will give the same weight to a paper written by some one with a doctorate, as they will read something from some conspiracy nut living in his moms basement. I honestly believe that it is better to teach children how to learn, rather that what to learn.

Would it annoy you to have to keep uplifting somebody?
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 16, 2018:
Not at all. I get a joy in helping people when I can. I've said this many times before, I volunteer at a homeless shelter most of the week. I do it to help, and every now and again I'll get a nice warm, 'thank you', or a hug. That means the world to me.

What do people here think about herbal medicine?
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 16, 2018:
It may work for some, and not work for others. I can really only speak for my self on this. I have schizo-affective disorder, which means I hear and see things that are not really there, I deal with major depression, I also deal with anxiety and paranoia, mood swings, insomnia. It's tricky because I have to take different meds for each of the symptoms. I't tokk a few years to find the right blend that effectively work together. I have also tried many 'alt' natural medications, and to be honest none of them worked at all. Although I am lucky in the fact I am on disability, so I have medicare (at least till Trump gets rid of it) that takes care of my meds. With out that I'd be fucked, My meds would cost me over $4,000 a month.
I see all over the internet people saying in their profiles, "I live life to the fullest".
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 16, 2018:
I'm not sure about living life to it's fullest, but I do try to do a few things. Like I try to learn something new every day. I like to help people, so I volunteer at a homeless shelter. I write and play music. I try to say 'Hi' to every one I walk by on my daily walks. Then again, sometimes I don't do shit except drink a bunch of beers and watch movies all day.

TristanNuvo comments on Jul 13, 2018:
One of the things that I've been working on in my therapy (I have schizo-affective disorder) I am most of the time freaked out be being around a few people at once. So one of the things I've been doing in baby steps is when I take my long walks to the corner store I'll wave, and smile and say 'Hi" to people coming the other way. It used to be real hard to do that and I found myself having to talk myself into it from pretty far away. But after some time I've go to be a lot better, and the smile is much easier to give, which not only makes me feel a little better, but it also gives me a sense of progress.

Proselytizing
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 13, 2018:
I volunteer at a homeless shelter, that is church run. I like to do what I can to help people. I pretty keep to myself about my dis-belief. But it has happened quite a few times where I have made friends, that were kind of on the edge of believing and not. In those instances I actually did what I could to point out (for as much as I know) what is wrong about religion. And I will again, as much as i can turn them onto some real science, rather that learning BS Science fron 'Answers in Genisis'. I'm pretty much sure that I've never 'converted' any one right then and there, But I do know that I have planted some seeds. After a while some of them Thanked me for opening their eyes.

TristanNuvo comments on Jul 12, 2018:
I'm not for policies and agendas, but one thing I really like that obama did try to push forward the learning of critical think ing, and the use of learning the Scientific method to Question everything. Learn what you can but do the research yourself to learn about how to learn to think rather that being tolled what to think, One great example was Obamma got to bring the Mythbusters on for a show about What is the data saying is believed, rather than asumming what we think.

TristanNuvo comments on Jul 12, 2018:

Just being around starving, suffering people in Africa, might just give him the push him into thinking twice about a 'Just' God.

TristanNuvo comments on Jul 12, 2018:
I could care less about color, gender, beliefs some one has or wants to be. By all means express yourself. Be who, or what ever you like. I'm more interested in the person underneath the label. But please, stop with the bullshit about my use of pronouns offending you. I think one of the best examples of this was with Morgan Freeman in an interview about race and such. Morgan, pretty much said, 'I'll stop calling you a white man, if you stop calling me a black man. How about just calling me Morgan. I thought that was brilliant.

How do you feel about religious music being played in a gym?
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 11, 2018:
Honestly, in the gym I love to play some raging heavy metal to get me amped. But to tell the truth, I love to listen, and play a lot of Classical music, mainly Bach or Vivaldi. who were very religious, and were inspired for their love of god that made them write such beautiful pieces. I don't feel the same reverance to god when I listen to their music, or when writing my own. But I sometimes do not care where the inspiration comes from, to me the music speasks for itself.
In pursuit of healthy aging
TristanNuvo comments on Jul 11, 2018:
I honestly don't think that diet is mutually exclusive. I have to say that genetics have a lot to do with aging. For example, my profile pic, or avitar doesn't do anything to illistrate ones age. I am 53 year5s old and by appearance I look a bit younger. Not that it matters, I still ans always value those who might, or might not look their age, but respond to them for the valu that they might have to offer. Sorry about the typos, I'm typing this on me phone, and for me, typing on a small ketboard is tempermental at best. lol.

That's funny. And happy hump day to you as well.
Does anyone else assume when they're talking to someone new that they're a right-leaning, ...

I rarely assume anything. But to honest, I don't really care if they are believers or not. As long as we keep it civil, and not try and convert each other I'm fine. In fact some of my best friends are believers and we've been getting along for years. We just simply just talk, laugh, joke, etc. like I would around other non-believers. Although to be fair, most of my believer friends are not really religious at all. and they all understand things like Evolutionary Biology, Big bang theory, Physics. etc.In fact, other than being that a god exists, we pretty much agree about everything. Then again, I am very picky about who I am friends with.

This kind of thing is exactly why I think religion should be looked at with ridicule and contempt.
