They drove across Europe and Asia in a bus caravan, stopping in Eastern Europe where they awoke surrounded by tanks and soldier. The friendly soldiers provided them with a ton of socks to distribute – an act of spontaneous generosity that Wavy admits changed his views – of both the Warsaw Bloc and military conscripts. They were welcomed and feasted in Iraq and in Afghan towns where people had photos of John Kennedy on the wall. @tansut I read something recently that I felt had some validity. Those who say they're against guns are also for the power of the state to use their guns to take them away from cirizens. Yes, right wingers often talk about armed insurrection to take down a corrupt and oppressive government, yet liberals often point out the many ways that that describes the government to a tee. I remain uncomfortable that so many others are wilking to forfeit any of my freedoms so that they might feel safer, regardless of the truth. Labeling unpopular spech as hate speech on social media is gaining a lot of traction. The most common dismissal is that they're not the government so it doesn't trouble them any. Yet corporations exercise an inordinate amount of control on the government, most often against the interests of the very people the government is meant to serve.

WilliamCharles replies on May 14, 2019:
@Alvinsmama No offense taken. It can be refreshing to interect with people sans politics, but I also feel there are too many fires burning so to speak to not be active and engaged politically. Our future depends on it. As an aside, I find it interesting that on Facebook, a really popular political post might get 20 or 30 reactions, but posts I've made in fan sites regularly break triple digits. I think my record there was over 800 (the Sci-fi Blueprints group). These are groups that specifically enforce a no politics rule. It shows that people get wesry of defending their political views all the time. I, however, like comparing notes more often than not as far as political views go, when mutually agreeable. Whether discussing religion or politics, I like to say that I consider it a sign of respect to share my views openly and honestly. That being said, I find many of the views of quite a few Trump backers indefensible. I do not have any insight into your rationale for your support of the president, and neither would I demand you provide it. I'm sorry that others have chosen to abuse you for it. Finally, I'm not trying to guilt you or anyone for reactions to anything I've posted (though I do want the points in the home stretch here), but I do like the feedback regardless of the topic. Please feel free to share whenever you feel strongly one way or the other. Others have snidely commented that it's a plea for validation on my part, but I don't see it as that either. I'm fine with stating my piece, and leaving it at that. I've often found that intensely negative reactions came from my expressing myself poorly as much as anything, but sometimes people just are in complete disagreement over some view I hold.

@Darthpug We'll have to agree to disagree then. And even though you seem to have better credentials, I feel I am evaluating the facts honestly. We get lied to quite a lot to support various agendas. I think the claim of Iran attacking Saudi ships is likely BS, yet the same media outlets that propped up WMD fabrications will cover this rather uncritically. I've seen the difference between what the factd show versus how it's portrayed time and again. Even on the Russian collusion claims, the histrionics prior yo the report didn't match the eventual findings. One quick aside since I checked out your profile bio... do you think Israel's attack on the USS Liberty was a case of mistaken identity? I became an online acquaintance with Liberty officer James Ennes who wrote "Assault on the Liberty." Good man. A remarkable truth-teller.

@t1nick I still see attempts at trying the kneecap Bernie, not water under the bridge at all. Re: the article, I do not see the claim of a likely Russian hack being substantiated either. :-----: "The bitterness hasn’t gone away. Sanders’s supporters maintain the 2016 primary was rigged; Clinton was the establishment candidate, lifted by the entirety of the Democratic Party apparatus, from the way the Democratic National Committee scheduled debates to fundraising — and besides, she had the support of the Party’s superdelegates before the primaries even began. This all came to a head in July 2016, when the DNC’s then-chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz was forced to abruptly resign just as the party’s nominating convention began. The central issue was leaked emails (now believed to be hacked by Russians) showed Democratic leaders disliked Sanders. After the election, Donna Brazile, who was appointed to replace Schultz, revealed that the DNC, deeply in debt at the start of the 2016 cycle, had struck a deal with Clinton in 2015, essentially trading some of its autonomy for Clinton’s fundraising help. To Sanders supporters, this was all evidence that the primary was rigged from the beginning." https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/2019/3/8/18253459/hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders-2020-relitigate-primary?fbclid=IwAR3thazL4PJgnjDTp0r3BoI7v5OAyxEyIC-KdKqc2Q445-OPwNqHqr1t13U

In other words, Clinton’s beloved claim that all 17 intelligence agencies were in agreement on the Russian “hacking” charge — an assertion that the “fact-checking” group PolitiFact has certified as “true” and that has been repeated endlessly by the mainstream U.S. news media — is not true. And instead of policies appealing to the base (M4A has support by most the vountry regardless of party), the party still acts as if "Not Trump!" is enough on its own like they did in 2016. The primaries are absolutely the time to weed out the deadwood. Centrists that are essentially GOP-lite definitely belong in the reject pile. I am encouraged by others who see the same things I do. Russiagate is still sucking most the air out of the room as far as focus by Dems and the MSM. Trump is still corrupt AF, appears to be guilty of obstruction, and could likely get a 2nd term should Dems run another centrist corporate warmonger. Biden is Hillary 3.0. The DNC and DCCC look to kneecap progressives yet again. It seems they'd rather lose with a centrist than win with a progressive. HRC still has her fingers in a lot of the party's machinations, and DWS is on MSDNC talking about election integrity if you can believe that. We've had the 16 mos of Team Hillary's Pied Piper because they couldn't beat the one they set up to run against. Dolt 45 is the giant shit sandwich we're all having to take a bite from because they were certain they could coast to the finish line with enough votes for her coronation. They even said they didn't need progressives. Her in a townhall with Rachel Maddow and Schumer predicting they'd gain moderate Republicans 2 to 1 for the progressives they'd lose. She picked "right to work" Tim Kaine as VP. They did nothing to smooth over the betrayal the progressive wing felt, but still acted as if they were owed those votes regardless. It was like a car thief asking the victim for gas money afterward. The woman who insisted she was the hard-nosed tactician trusted her in-house metrics more than the party organizers in the field. It wasn't the Russians that made her skip those states. Her and her team knew better. Maybe they should have hired the Russian troll farm with the $1.2B in her war chest because they apparently got results on a shoestring budget. But no... I'm not pissed. If Establishment Dems want to put their thumb on the scale again, maybe I'll just lie down in the middle of the road and let them run over me. Hope they at least figure out the right election to try to rig this time.

@Lop-Eared-Mule Trump was given massive amounts of free airtime because he was good for ratings. Wikileaks revealed the DNC/Team Hillary plan to fluff Trump thinking he'd be easier to beat. They lost to their handpicked Pied Piper. She played chicken with the fate of the nation in her pursuit of power... and saddled us with Dolt 45 due to her hubris. It wasn't the Russians that told her to ignore key states. She went up against one of the shittiest presidential candidates in modern memory, and despite her own substantial negatives, felt she could coast to victory. Democratic operatives on the ground begged her not to ignore their districts, but they trusted their own flawed metrics. Russiagate was cooked up by Robby Mook and John Podesta within 24 hours of her defeat as a means of saving face. And they continue to push this narrative against any evidence to the contrary. They double down on it time and again. Trump is most definitely corrupt AF, but that does not mean that Dems can't be guilty of their own manufactured spin.
