@AmyTheBruce They like peanuts, unsalted of course. Better they LOVE meal worms. I find peanuts more accessible. Then you need to make contact. Talk to them, so they don't get the impression you're sneaking up, start with a caw of your own, this gets their attention so you may approach. You'll never get close until they're ready, start tossing peanuts toward them. It may take a while, I did it out my car window last time, but they're still suspicious. Be consistent with time and peanuts. More and more crows will show up, soon you'll have a murder of crows. They'll get closer and closer. It's good to worry about them becoming to trustful of people, but they recognize people and will not come to any but the most loyal allies. Then one day you might be the crazy lady in black surrounded by crows and ravens in a parking lot, at least until a curious person drives up to see how you're doing it and all your true friends fly away to avoid them.

@Barnie2years I'm for 75K cutoff and progressive reduction to 125k. The reason is in California there's people earning 100K that have to sleep in their cars in the overpriced rent and extravagant health and services market in the tech areas. So perhaps reginal economics should be considered as well, at the risk of simple people calling it unfair that people making that much money get stimulus while they don't at smaller salaries. It's a question of focus, do we focus on who needs help, or some overly simple code that doesn't look at the economic realities. Everyone should at the very least be able to eat every day. I can't say I can do that without running a tab with our Roach-Coach and that's with a salary of 76.5. It doesn't seem that it should be a hand to mouth existence with no dependents, but prescription cost, car insurance, medical bills, cell phone service, and credit bills are absolutely overwhelming. Honestly I feel like I live on a razors edge. Do I eat cheap two one dollar menu items at a drive through so I can get a room, or do I sleep in my car and eat enough to fill up. There's a lot to consider, I could stand to lose a few pounds you know. My Christian background keeps offering me this guilt that I slam the door on. Is it just my bad management skills? I don't know, but there's about twelve more that I can point to in the parking lot of the local municipal park. Two can live a lot cheaper than one if both work, so couples are rare, but not unknown in the mobile working high tech homeless community.

Then as I was just starting to come to grips with it out comes silence of the lambs and after seeing it I was so traumatized by Buffalo Bill I couldn’t accept that I was in the closet. Even though it’s not in me to harm anyone or anything I saw a person systematically abused as I had been that became a monster. That combined with trauma and self doubt almost kept me locked in that closet the rest of my life. I couldn’t face myself again until I was 59. @LenHazell53 Check again, you're obviously out of your depth. The idea that Rome was an extremely promiscuous and licentious society is, in reality, if nothing else a massive over-simplification of a complex picture. It’s a simplification that has served erotic artists – often unable to portray their own times as genuinely sexual – well in every medium from oils to digital video. There may be an element of religious propaganda to this image of Rome too. The Catholic Church took hold in the last centuries of the Empire. It was in the Church’s interests to portray the pre-Christian, pagan Roman world as one of out-of-control desires, orgies and endemic rape that they had brought under control. The Romans did have an abiding set of moral guidelines called the mos maiorum (“the way of the elders”), a largely accepted and unwritten code of good conduct. These customs did consider sexual excess outside the bounds of ideal behavior defined by virtues, an ideal state of masculinity that included self-control. Women too were expected to be chaste (pudicitia). The written laws also included sexual offences, including rape, which could carry a death sentence. Prostitutes (and sometimes entertainers and actors) were not given this legal protection and the rape of a slave would only be considered a crime of property damage against the slave’s owner. Marriage itself was, in reality, a lopsided affair. Women who married weren’t expected to attain any pleasure or enjoyment form it – they simply wedded in order to abide by the moral code and procreate. Moreover, the subservient wife was expected to turn a blind eye to her husband’s sexual infedelity. Males were allowed to sleep around as much as they liked so long as their mistress was unmarried, or, if they were with a boy, he was over a certain age. Brothels, prostitutes and dancing girls were all considered to be ‘fair game’, as were older males – on the condition that he was to be submissive. Being passive was considered women’s work: men who submitted were considered deficient in vir and in virtus – they were denounced and reviled as effeminate. An example of this moral code was seen with Julius Caesar’s long and public affair with Cleopatra. Due to the fact that Cleopatra was not with a Roman citizen, Caesar’s actions were not considered adulterous. The Romans were, in many ways, more sexually liberated than we are. There was a strong sexual element in much of Roman religion. The Vestal Virgins were celibate in order to keep them independent of male control, but other religious ceremonies celebrated prostitution. Moreover, divorce and other such legal proceedings were as easy for women to undertake as men. In this sense, women were, in many cases, more sexually ...

@Surfpirate Right, but I really hate the drama, people come in a range of emotional phases. There can be great times, but they slowly evaporate and in the end it's petty quarreling to keep their lives entwined. I just walked away after signing everything over to my spouse. I amputated my heart, but I saved years of necessary legal negotiations. Worth it, as a precautionary tale.

@OldGoat43 Can't it also be from a cutting? It's tedious but not particularly complicated, they make citrus trees out here that way, sometimes at least. I don't really know. If I'm taking care of it it dies. I learned all about horticulture and mixing and using fertilizers. There's a lot to it. I've had compost hills 12 feet tall that get so hot they smoke in the winter. Family and friends loved that fertilizer, but it didn't help me at all to have even one tomato plant survive. However I cleaned some weed in the early 80's and threw the seeds on the ground in a remote part of my dads property. I came back some months later to find massive plants. Plants thrive on my neglect. I couldn't persuade any to grow on purpose.
