OMG is that ever cute! (those EARS!!!!) My cats took to their fountain like fish to, well... water! Of course the cat who needs to drink more for his urinary condition is the one that I have never seen use it. Grrrr!

I've been nuts over cats since I was old enough to pet one. I like dogs, too, but can't abide the odor for some reason (yeah, I know, litter boxes are no treat, but I can control that). I also greatly enjoy my fish, snakes, and hedgie, as well as the frogs, lizards, and insects that have resided with me.

"Wrong" is a pretty strong word. I would think anything longer term could be risky though. It depends on how flexible each of you can HONESTLY be with the other's opposed value priority. Most christians that I know would never admit to any priority other than "god first, family second" due to having that preached at them at least a gazillion times. Beneath that, it would be nice to understand where the priorities truly are. If those really are her true values, I would not pursue the relationship. There is too much potential hurt lurking down the line. There's bound to be someone more naturally suited to each of you, I would hope. It's a sticky dilemma for sure.

Thankfully, there are many, but one that popped up right away was our best fishing day, ever. D and I were camping in the spring at a largely empty camp ground. We reached one very sunny, first real warm spring day and went fishing on the electric motors only lake. There was a sizeable large mouth bass in EVERY spot that looked like it could hold one! If the first person cast and missed, the second person could go in behind and get it! I've never had such a day since. It was simply amazing and tremendously fun!

In a relationship, How many "I hate you's" is enough?

Wow! Those are huge words! I've never said them or had a SO say them. I would think that even once means it's over. I don't think so much vitriol and damage can ever be undone or forgotten, regardless of desire to salvage the relationship. If such words are used more casually and/or often in a certain pairing (sounds hurtful at least and odd, but no two couples are the same), only those in the relationship can weigh the significance enough to decide.

Keurig or French Press?

Sorry, but in my opinion, Keurig makes a lame cup of coffee. Only auto drip or instant are worse. I am not sure why. I use French press (and a hand crank burr grinder) when I have the time and can savor a cup at my leisure. Nothing (so far) has beat it. For those times when I do not have time for the press, I use an old Senseo machine. Same convenience as Keurig, but a TON better flavor ( if you like a French cup or prefer something like espresso) and the pods are made from filter material, and so are more eco friendly. If acquiring premade pods is challenging (I order from Amazon), self-filled EvoPods work and are multi-use.

I actually took advantage of this tendency (with our water dragon) by building a primarily aquatic habitat with added dry areas (rather than the reverse of adding water pans to a land habitat), while running the water through a high rate fitration system. I maintained the area as one would an aquarium. The dry areas stay clean a long time.

The Fountain (2006), was good and worth seeing a few times.

I am! I worked to live, not the other way around. That (not working a huge portion of your life span) is really only possible if there exists some goal of having ENOUGH... to be content. I have reached that point. I am now out of the corporate rat race and able to now spend more time on things that I want to do, rather than have to. Without a limit of "enough", I might have worked my entire life acquring more, more, and more. That not only costs me precious time that I can never get back, but also means that was time was spent acquiring frivolously, AND also further lining the pockets of the (already) wealthy folks at the top. No thanks. I choose to live MY life, rather than endlessly running like a rat on a wheel for some contrived consumerist dream or fat cat.

It depends on the person and other factors. In my case, meds that I must take to prevent migraine pain (which became present 24/7 in menopause), induce horrible hypnopompic/gogic hallucinations. These are greatly impacted by my ability to see any light when my eyes inadvertently open during sleep. I often long for a more completely dark room to see if the frequency of nightmarish hallucinations would be reduced. Some of what the scientific community knows about light and citcadian rythms is summarizeded in this linked review article. I have not waded through all of it, but wonder if we understand what the impact of low levels of light typically encountered during the night might be, if any. Been getting one annually for decades as they were free at work. I think my last bout of flu was in childhood. I like getting them around October (northern hemisphere) as I feel the antigen exposure can generate a nonspecific immune response as well as the intended specific one (agst flu), sort of like a jumpstart of the protective system right as we head into winter and its assorted maladies. I have gotten a tad sore or achey for a day or two, but nothing that a low dose of Tylenol wont lick, if I even need that (rare). For those afraid of mercury preservatives, go where the shot is drawn from a single dose via (currently mercury free in US) rather than multidose.

Silly as it might sound: odor. While a litter box is no olfactory treat, the stench of dog skin can literally make me nauseous. Also, like others, I much prefer an independent, easier to maintain cat and enjoy the honor of a cat's gentle affection over the general excitability of dogs.

Mine each get half a cup per day (1/4 fed twice, morning and evening) of a high quality (Science Diet or prescription diets as needed, preferring dry), well balanced food. My cats are all within their ideal ranges for weight, and are active, healthy. If you dislike measuring/restricting, you can try a reducing diet that contains higher fiber. I am a veterinarian, and so am pulling no punches, here. Adjust changes gradually to minimize rejection. Avoid your cat fasting as this can trigger life threatening liver trouble, a huge risk of excess body weight in cats. It is wonderful that you are recognizing excess weight and wanting to correct it. (:

IMO, it might not so much be wanting to be an atheist as much as NOT wanting to remain religious. For me, this meant escape from constant, mostly irrational judgement, moving toward more universal acceptance, more honest motivation for good deeds (than the self serving rewards of religion for doing so), etc... Of course, atheistic society is not perfect either. There is still judgement, "us/them" division, greed and whatnot.

Mine were never just "staring at screens". Mine were connecting and playing with other kids, being entertained, and educating themselves FAR beyond what we could do when I was a kid. We live rurally, so the connecting was welcome (no neighbor hood to gather in). My son took himself so far in the areas of eastern history and linguistics that, even at a junior level, he has not learned much (yet) that is new at college. My kids balanced screen time with the arts (band was physically gruelling) and going to the gym and so were/are not obese and out of shape. So... it depends on the kid. Also, television has gotten SO dumb, I am glad they don't spend the time that way that I did.

John Krasinski I prefer him in nerdy "office" mode, but he's quite handsome either way.

When you speak such of this entire generation, you are speaking of my children. My experience has been that they might be MORE aware of their humanity than prior generations. Their intrerconnectedness globally has them much more aware of issues that cross boundaries, and each individual's impact on the planet. My kids, in particular, seem to better own their shortcomings and social awkwardness than generations prior (invluding mine). Yes, there are good and bad examples on any given day within each generation. Try looking for the positive now and then. You might be pleasantly surprised or even be given hope. The youth are weaker at some things and more gifted at others, including some emerging skill sets that might play out in big ways. Time will tell.

It's helped me to find one or two people who could talk with me (not AT me) and listen to me, whether working through anger, lonliness, the endless "whys"... I avoided those who wanted to throw religion at me. Like you, I did not want to hurt or alienate them, but the empty platitudes felt almost insulting. There are self formed and moderated grief groups here. Hopefully you will be able to check them out and find someone with whom to connect that might help. I am so sorry that you are on the painful path of loss. I have been, and am on it again myself. It's awful.

Welcome! I was never raised to believe the bible literally, but to seek lessons in its mythology. My parents convinced me that Jesus brought a message of love (cherry picking = ok if not literal?). When I went to college I first encountered biblical literalists who also used the bible to justify hate, greed, and bigotry. I saw religion as a tool of man ever since.

Get checked out in case it IS something that early intervention could help. Also review all of your meds with a professional. You are correct that many medicines, alone or in certain combination, can have cognitive side effects. My father got very forgetful and confused every time he took statin drugs (to reduce plaque buildup in the arteries). I've had certain migraine meds interfere with my recall. I understand the worry. "What ifs" can get huge and scary. Often the reality and doing something about it can be both liberating and empowering.

I have a relative whose chiropractic speciality is adjusting the plates in the skulls of newborn infants. I see an ortho/PT for my bulging discs. I've been pain free since May 2008. The PTs taught me tricks to self align as at every visit my spine was out of alignment.

It might be easier to state what I dislike: most pop, rap, hip-hop, nearly anything with female vocals, and a lot of country. For some reason, I really enjoyed the country scene around 1995 (before/after, not so much).

@Graceylou was spot on... baby snakes live in a state of nearly constant fear of being eaten, and for good reason. They do eventually settle down, but it can take a while. I did not force mine to much handling when young. I just let them learn to associate me with good things, like lunch. I also provided fairly deep substrate, allowing them the option to build custom burrows. I am not sure if pythons do that, but my baby kings sure loved it. Congrats on your new baby! (:

That far from the mainland and its pollution, the colors of the water are unbelievable! The turquoise over snow white sand, the violet-indigo of fathoms deep water... The Okeefenokee swamp in Georgia comes a close second. We camped there in April '06 and boated on the swamp each day. The cypress over the flowing "river" portions were truly magestic, towering, forming parallel archways that could rival any man made cathedral. My photos are inaccessible and hard copy. I found similar on the net instead. Photos really do a poor job of capturing the true glavor of either location, though.

My current take on ptofanity... 1. Words, in and of themselves have no power 2. Perceived word power is on behalf of the perceiver. The listener has to choose whether or no to be offended, regardless of the intent. I have better things to do with my time than being perpetually offended. 3. Many in society will judge. Such is a "perk" of freedom. Those who opt to use profane language have to be able to roll with those who will choose to be offended by it. Both sides have the right. 4. There can be times when a terrible word really meets the need. I prefer to not use the "golden biggie" (thanks Mr. Carlin) casually, reserving it for such circumstances. 5. Overuse of profanity, IMO, shows a lack of creativity. Can't you come up with a less tiresome word than that? 6. I actually APPRECIATE some profanity, especially in certain comedy dialogue. When censored, a lot of these movies/shows lack flavor. I actually like filth to have the original dirt in it! As to the original post. No, the prevalence of public profanity does not really bother me, except to say that "fuck" has somewhat lost its impact through overuse, which is unfortunate. I think society needs to choose its next "golden biggie".

I am a die hard instrumentalist, too. I've seen TSO several times. The quality and quantity of nonvocal numbers makes it worth it, IMO. As vocals go, theirs are more melodic, almost like another instrument. The instrumentals really rock!
