Religiousity in Music
Zster comments on Feb 4, 2018:
I am no longer a believer, but like what I used to, regardless. I tend to focus on beats and tunes, rather than lyrics. So, perhaps religious songs were less so for me. Many hymns lift their tunes/melodies directly from known classical pieces anyway. So, which am I still liking? (;
I see Church summer camps everywhere and even the ones that are not Church based, might as well be.
Zster comments on Feb 4, 2018:
There are plenty of themed camps that have nothing to do with religion, either way. Art, dance, music, sports, science, nature, gaming, academic, etc... my kids attended many and benefitted from nearly all. The only religious one was a camp that my son asked to attend because a school friend invited him. We knew it was vacation bible school going in. He attended, but never asked to again.
What are you looking for?
Zster comments on Feb 4, 2018:
Friends, folks to chat with, possibly someone to hang out with, all while blissfully enjoying getting to be my full on irreverent self, free from religious pseudo-morality/judgement/harassment.
Favorite instrumentals?
Zster comments on Feb 4, 2018:
I have dozens of favorite instrumentals, from the 50s through today. I especially love instrumental surf music. Here's one that had stood the test of time: https://youtu.be/Uyl7GP_VMJY
Recently I had to send my beautiful cat, Appollo, to the Rainbow Bridge.
Zster comments on Feb 3, 2018:
Every loss takes a bit of my heart. I hope that your Appollo leaves warm, wonderful memories with you. Finn and Fiona will be so luckyvto share your life, together!
3.2.43--1.2.18 (European date order)
Zster comments on Feb 3, 2018:
Wow. I had not heard (been offline a lot this past two weeks). We are losing so many great talents, lately.
Widow/Widower
Zster comments on Feb 3, 2018:
My husband passed away after an 89 day battle with a very rare nondifferentiated cancer (cells reverted back to embryonic). I have since raised our two kids completely on my own with the nearest family four states away. It's been 11 years. My youngest starts college this fall.
I understand that there are many different ways to partner, and I try not to judge other peopleÕs ...
Zster comments on Feb 3, 2018:
A refreshing perspective as I have shied away from more traditional provider/dependent (help meet?) relationships. How successful have you been finding those who aim higher than "just getting by"? Was their aim as high as yours? Do you draw a line denoting "enough" and "let's play!"?
Who's single?
Zster comments on Feb 3, 2018:
I've been single for 11 years (raising kids and dating did not mesh for me). I am open to another pairing, but am not one to take precious time away from living for traditional dating.
What's a good romantic gift someone could give you?
Zster comments on Feb 3, 2018:
Quality time, with phones OFF, possibly over a delicious meal, an outdoor outing, or both. I am also girly enough to like dark chocolate and/or flowers (especially unusual types or those with a great fragrance).
Didn’t we already litigate todays problems in the 60’s & 70’s?
Zster comments on Feb 3, 2018:
I had wondered the same. Is society doomed to having to relearn everything, endlessly? The battles of the 60s and 70s seem largely forgotten.
So just watched the first episode of Altered Carbon on Netflix .
Zster comments on Feb 3, 2018:
I have not watched it yet, but admit to being intrigued by a teaser that I saw. Now I am even MORE curious! Thank you!
Soulmates
Zster comments on Feb 3, 2018:
There are likely numerous potential partners spanning a range of compatabilities. Some people will settle for less compatability, others wait, hoping for more. I figure the best matches for me personally would be drawn by the life that I live. So... I am living well.
Are you going to be single for Valentine's Day?
Zster comments on Feb 2, 2018:
Single again/still. I have been since 2006. I tend to not dine out on the 14th due to the crowds. Maybe I'll cook something nice.
Did you ever find yourself the outcast in school or in society now?
Zster comments on Feb 2, 2018:
I often feel very outcast. I have since I was a child. Be glad if you don't suffer the bullying that often goes with it. I find that understanding on line friends can help, as do my pets and small family. I have a couple real life friends, but they have spouses and kids, so we don't get together a lot. I could wax poetic about WHY I walk largely alone, but would be better doing that in a deficated thread or via private message. Many adults who you pass during any given day feel outcast and alone. They are just very good at acting/looking otherwise. Feel free to contact me any time. My social calendar is pretty bare. (;
I am a widow.
Zster comments on Jan 31, 2018:
I have been widowed for 11 years. Such platitudes make ME want to strangle them! I think the kindest that I could manage, even now, might be "mmm -ok." Those are rude, even unkind things to say to a widow, religious or not.
Is Anyone Else Having A Hard Time Clicking On The Like Tabs on Comments?
Zster comments on Jan 31, 2018:
There is a delay between when I press and when it increments.
Friends with benefits OK?
Zster comments on Jan 31, 2018:
Ok so long as both partners understand and agree up front. Most that I have known of have either developed (one sided) romantic feelings or ruined the friendship. It's not for me, but that does not have any impact on others for whom it suits.
Anyone Have An Exotic Animal As A Pet?
Zster comments on Jan 31, 2018:
Five snakes (3 Cali Kings, 1 Mexican Black King, and 1 Bull snake), and a hedge hog.
It says I should make a post. But, I'm new and I don't know what to say. So.....hi?
Zster comments on Jan 29, 2018:
That works... Hello, and welcome!
Is it immoral to have kids?
Zster comments on Jan 29, 2018:
At a replacement rate, no. By the dozen? Perhaps...
Favorite ice cream
Zster comments on Jan 29, 2018:
I coukd not select any as I prefer more exotic flavors. My fave more traditional type would be home made French Vanilla or custard, or the darkest chocolate (sorbet?) is good. Others: cardamom, saffron, black sesame, red bean, matcha, espresso, pistacio
Stereotypes, what is the most common misconception people have about you?
Zster comments on Jan 28, 2018:
Hmmm... it's a tie between stupid, not serious, and sexually loose. I presume these assumptions spring from my being blonde, coupled with my having a friendly, fun loving personality.
Do you think scientists will find cure for aids and cancer
Zster comments on Jan 28, 2018:
AIDS? Perhaps. Cancer? That's not a singular disease, but dozens. Some might be prevented or cured, eventually; but I cannot see that happening with ALL cancers.
Morning person or not?
Zster comments on Jan 28, 2018:
The only way that I can handle mornings is on MY terms. NO jumping through anyone else's hoops, no rushing around. I deeply resent that social convention demands that most have to start their day early, regardless of his or her circadian rhythm.
What are your thoughts on the etiquette of paying for dates?
Zster comments on Jan 28, 2018:
Seems to me that for couples where both are earning, both should pay. In the past, many women had no income, hence the man had to pay. I expect to pay at least half of the time myself, often more.
Household Chores
Zster comments on Jan 28, 2018:
Washing the dishes. I hate the texture, the odor... it's just blech!
Who is on here with the hopes of a relationship and who is here just for the atheist community?
Zster comments on Jan 28, 2018:
Atheist community for me.
When creating a profile, you are asked to choose your likes in order to compare them to others.
Zster comments on Jan 28, 2018:
I am a tremendous fan, but really would only reveal that with someone I feel close with and attracted to. I recall laughing at it being an option. (;

What's your favorite show right now?
Zster comments on Jan 28, 2018:
Just waiting on "Game of Thrones" and "Stranger Things".
I’m here for the community with the possibility of meeting someone to date. What about you?
Zster comments on Jan 28, 2018:
Mostly here to chat without the worry of offending the religious or getting lectured. I'd love to make some lasting friendships here. I don't hold out much dating hope as online does not seem like a real good approach to me. I am not closed to the idea, just cynical.
What do you like to do for fun?
Zster comments on Jan 28, 2018:
Travel, camping, hiking, fishing, sailing, kayaking, cooking, reading, and appeciating music, art, pets, nature, and small creatures (lizards, snakes, crustaceans, molluscs, fish, insects...), to name a few.
Seems dead around here today. Did everyone go to church?
Zster comments on Jan 28, 2018:
No church. Just s four hour trip to get my car from the airport.
You’ve got to get up every morning with a smile on your face and show the world all the love in ...
Zster comments on Jan 27, 2018:
A definite classic! I grew up listening to Streisan's version, fromtge album "Barbara Joan": https://youtu.be/1STZBcaDR74
Master of Tides - Lindsey Stirling - YouTube
Zster comments on Jan 27, 2018:
That's a personal fave.
Hi how is everone
Zster comments on Jan 26, 2018:
Broken hearted. My father just passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. ):
Women, does he really need to know?
Zster comments on Jan 25, 2018:
If the guy did not care enough to either prevent the pregnancy or hang around long enough to have been part of the finding out about being pregnant then no, he's already shown that he does not care. I would not be telling him under those circumstances. That said, it's a moot point. I did not have unattached casual sex (or unprotected sex) during my reproductive years. Now, the risk of conception is past for me.
How you feel about mac and cheese?
Zster comments on Jan 25, 2018:
I am positively nuts for the stuff! It's sad to not be able to eat it like I want to (cholesterol, diabetic risk, etc).
Are you a fan of live theater?
Zster comments on Jan 25, 2018:
LOVE live theater and get to see some (large and small, professional and amateur...). Absolute fave: Hamilton on Broadway, summer of 2016. I was able to get tickets right before they skyrocketed due to popularity.
What’s your take on kids not learning cursive any longer?
Zster comments on Jan 25, 2018:
My take: as long as students have to take long blue book essay exams, they should at least have the option of learning cursive. Printing that many pages would be an excruciating process!
How many of you are bothered by second hand smoke?
Zster comments on Jan 25, 2018:
I detest the reek of smoke. It nearly always triggers a migraine which feels pretty unfair. I am not the one with the habit, but get to pay with severe pain.
How many times have you been married?
Zster comments on Jan 23, 2018:
Once: 1988-2006, ended by cancer. It was great. I really hated to have it ended like that.
Taking yourself out to eat?
Zster comments on Jan 19, 2018:
Eating out alone is tons better than not eating out. I had one fancy dinner while travelling for business where numerous tables had one person dining. We ended up having a conversation, table to table. (: It was absurd and fun (the crab cakes weren't half bad either!).
Just for fun: would you rather have a necklace that makes you an amazing singer, or shoes that make ...
Zster comments on Jan 18, 2018:
Shoes/dancer!
Which are you more concerned about in a relationship: being smothered or being abandoned?
Zster comments on Jan 17, 2018:
Smothering can make me nervous. It sometimes gives off a creepy vibe.
Do you use a computer to log into this site or your cell phone?
Zster comments on Jan 17, 2018:
Phone. I have kids at home. I NEVER get to touch the computer!
Is anyone here plagued by migraines?
Zster comments on Jan 17, 2018:
Ugh... sll the way back to age 5, at least. In the last 8 years or so, they became a 24/7 phenomenon if I don't take meds. I hate it, but do keep them largely at bay.
Wouldn’t it be cool to have an agnostic.comCon?
Zster comments on Jan 17, 2018:
It most certainly would!
comrades in coffee...what do you think is the best brew method? not for convenience, but flavor.
Zster comments on Jan 16, 2018:
French press with freshly coarse ground beans.
What is your favorite kind of dog ?
Zster comments on Jan 16, 2018:
Sight hounds!! Greyhound, Saluki, Borzoi, Whippet, Italian Greyhound, Pharoah Hound, Ibizan hound. Give me long and lean, with a tapered snoot, and I'm good!
What's your Favorite Kind of Cat?
Zster comments on Jan 16, 2018:
Colorpoint shorthair, followed by other exotic shorthairs (solid, tabby...). Basically the long lithe siamese type. I love a loud, talkative cat! I also love Cornish Rex and Abyssinians. That said, I only acquire pure bred now and then, rescuing lots of domestics as pets.
What's your favorite flower ?
Zster comments on Jan 16, 2018:
Wisteria, then Lilac, Honeysuckle, and Rose. Fragrance drives the selection primarily, though Wisteria draped all over can be striking to look at, too.
Just heard that Dolores O'Riordan (from the Cranberries) died suddenly.
Zster comments on Jan 15, 2018:
We've been fans for years. The news really punched me. Very sad.

Do you block the trolls around here?
Zster comments on Jan 15, 2018:
The frequency is increasing as our membership does. I blocked my first yesterday.
So, I just watched the end of the football game between the Saints and the Vikings this evening.
Zster comments on Jan 15, 2018:
It bugs me because this god crediting nonsense seems more of a recent phenomenon to me. I do not recall players doing it back in the 70s-80s. My hypothesis is that they do it for attention: to impress fellow churchies. Honestly, I'd rather do without it.
Etiquette for Follow feature
Zster comments on Jan 15, 2018:
Following is informal, based on what you like to read. I enjoy humor and will often follow people whose posts have made me laugh. You do not have to know the followee or ask permission, and those following you don't either.
What is your favorite plant based recipe? No meat, no dairy. I'd like to try it!
Zster comments on Jan 14, 2018:
Tabouli salad: bulgur wheat (or Tabouli "mix"), I prefer Nile Spice brand as it comes with a wonderful seasoning packet. Soak the wheat over night per instructions, next day add in fresh parsley (chopped up), diced tomato and cucumber, mix herb/veggies with the wheat, add fresh squeezed lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil (first cold press is ideal).
Kids
Zster comments on Jan 14, 2018:
I took mine to a few churches, including some that family go to, was very open with my own thoughts about it, and emphasized that, as we mature and learn, our ideas about spirituality can change. I also kept the discussion channels open as they came home with questions from school (teachers, kids, other patents). We've always been scientific. I've shown them how to question, test, and seek authentic answers. The rest is up to them. As others have said, I'll love them no matter what.
How many contacts do you have In the memory of your mInd?
Zster comments on Jan 14, 2018:
About five personal and 10-15 at work. I have had a knack for memorizing numbers if I use them often by dialing, writing, calling them out verbally etc... Maybe I should set my gazillion passwords that way!
Fellow agnostics, how do you feel about believers joining?
Zster comments on Jan 13, 2018:
I come here because it is safe from religious harrassment. That makes this site precious and unique. From other agnostic site experience, I know that many religious folks tend to come to nonbeliever sites for unkind reasons. To open THIS site up will make it like every other mixed site on the internet. I honestly would grieve that loss. If you want to engage believers, PLEASE go to one of the MANY mixed sites out there to do so. This site is the only place some of us can be ourselves, given where we live.
Should we give religious believers a little more slack?
Zster comments on Jan 12, 2018:
I am perfectly content to live and let live. It would be nice if they felt the same way.
Is Fox News credible or mostly propaganda?
Zster comments on Jan 12, 2018:
Propaganda (bullshit with a news label slapped on it; does not mask the odor one bit!).
What Type Of Diet Do You Personally, Or Your Family Practice?
Zster comments on Jan 12, 2018:
I eat as healthy as I can manage. Diabetes runs rampant in my family and my triGs run sky high (3000+, when normal is below 200), so my doc recently had me restrict carbs. That's made a tremendous difference! I make many of my own meals from scratch, focusing largely on lean protein, veggies, some fruit, nuts/seeds, and whole grain limited carbs.
My significant other passed away.
Zster comments on Jan 12, 2018:
Oh my gosh LuAnn! What a nightmare, on so many fronts! There are no words that I can find to capture my fury that our government thinks IT gets to decide who suffers and who does not!! I was caregiver as cancer killed my husband, but it was a quick thing and he was allowed pain killers. Even that haunts me. I cannot imagine what you two had to walk through and wish someone could have made it different. I am leaving a link to a site that helped me at times. Toss it if you prefer. It's the only help I can think of as I recall my own journey when it all happened to us. Private messages are welcome, any time. www.widda.org
Defining Lonely vs Alone To me they are near synonymous. Does being alone not indicate lonely?
Zster comments on Jan 12, 2018:
Lonely involves my yearning for the company of another/others. Alone just means no other person is present, BUT I might not necessarily be yearning for company. I experience both in my day to day as a widow. I am alone a lot, but only lonely at certain points in the day.
Why haven't you uploaded a pic?
Zster comments on Jan 11, 2018:
I upload something relevant, just prefer to not have my likeness all over the net. The idea of being gawked at tinder-style while strangers decide if I am bangable creeps me out, to be honest. I am seeking conversation, not sex. Aaaannd after reading the other replies: No, I am not ugly, don't hate myself, do not think I am better than anyone. If not having my picture up causes others to pass, THAT is worth knowing up front, thank you. (;
How do feel about camping?
Zster comments on Jan 11, 2018:
I LOVE camping! I prefer a tent, unless the weather is extreme. As I keep bugs and critters as pets, they don't worry me. I hate itchy bug bites though, especially from fire ants!
Have you given big donations to a church?
Zster comments on Jan 11, 2018:
Yep. 10% like clockwork, plus more for special offerings, all while volunteering all day/night Sundays, and three evenings during each work week. That's why it stung SO badly when they defsulted on a loan that they convinced me to cosign on. All the bank wanted was $1000. I paid ten times that. They certainly had the money!
What song would you want played for your funeral?
Zster comments on Jan 11, 2018:
I am planning a big dinner, while playing a montage of my fave movie clips, mostly comedic on screens. Thus no music, per se. At my husband's funeral, I insisted on Collective Soul as my husband, who gave that church SO much always asked them to play that, and they always refused. Finally got them to play some for him, dammit! Was the least that they could do.
What type of coffee is your favorite?
Zster comments on Jan 11, 2018:
I love a dark or espresso roast, preferably smokey, fresh ground, and brewed in a French press. I am supposed to keep my caffeine low, so I brew decaf with a few espresso beans tossed in. At work, I use a Senseo with commercial pods (a mix of decaff and espresso) as I do not have the time to grind and press.
Anyone else an insomniac in the group?
Zster comments on Jan 10, 2018:
Indoors, my natural clock for sleep is 2-3AM until around 9-10AM. I tend to sleep solidly six hours on the best night, then sporadic dream sleep after. This night owlishness runs in the family (my folks and my kids). My migraine meds (a MUST have, or else pain 24/7) induce hypnogogic hallucinations. These are ALWAYS unpleasant (fire, smoke, spiders, threatening intruders, rising flood waters) and occur almost nightly. Sleep is not fun, though sleep deprivation is a bitch, too. Sigh.
What kind of pets do we all have?
Zster comments on Jan 10, 2018:
Three house cats and now a possible fourth (quarantined in the garage), five snakes, a hedge hog, and freshwater fish. I like to consider the birds in my yard pets, but delude myself. They are wild things that simply enjoy a free meal ticket.
This is for the single ladies over 50.
Zster comments on Jan 10, 2018:
I tend to be drawn to people who can relate to my life experience, so, within 5-8 years of my age. Much further either way, we don't tend to relate as well, though I would probably give it a chance. For sex... young enough to be virile, old enough to know what they are doing (and how to please a lady). (;
Who Are Better Drivers Men or Women?
Zster comments on Jan 10, 2018:
Skill is not gender specific. I've encountered talented and horrid drivers of both genders (and any in between). In my experience, men used to do the driving as an outshot of general (church sanctioned) patriarchy within the family. My late husband used to do the driving because he was a control freak who felt unsafe with anyone else at the helm. It did not matter who or what gender.
Does appearance outweigh knowledge?
Zster comments on Jan 10, 2018:
Good heavens! It's a PARTY, a place to socialize. As a friend, would you seriously expect your friends to only talk to you?
Atheism and pot
Zster comments on Jan 10, 2018:
Experimented, but found most intoxicants lacking. Pot makes me puke, literally. No fun in that for me. It also renders those around me senseless and boring, which seems pretty pointless. I won't stop others from their high, but have zilch interest in it myself.
How many of you in the US have passports?
Zster comments on Jan 10, 2018:

Zster comments on Jan 10, 2018:
Love itself is great, but it sets us up for great pain when yanked away. It makes us vulnerable.
Something that has been becoming more and more clear to me lately is that our society, the way we ...
Zster comments on Jan 10, 2018:
Agree, except with being all to family or spouse. I've never thought or experienced those. I love them dearly and derive great pleasure from sharing life with them. That our (western?) society demands us to work ourselves literally to death for the monetary gain of those at the top, I agree with 100%. It's bull shit. Such is a terrible waste of our precious life time.
Thoughts on kids? Have them? Want them? No!
Zster comments on Jan 10, 2018:
I was not ever going to have any, but husband changed his mind ten years later. THEN he died from cancer, leaving me to raise them. They are the very best part of my entire life. They have been fascinating people in a thousand different ways and hold a huge part of my heart.
Do you think that Oprah could defeat the nazi buffoon in 2020?
Zster comments on Jan 8, 2018:
While I think she could be popular with certain demographics, esp as a VP candidate (inexperience for pres has not gone too well), I think enough might go against, sadly, due to gender and race. If we want to unseat 45, the countering candidates will have to have solid, broad appeal.

Zster comments on Jan 8, 2018:
I've participated on numerous social sites for years. No one ever asks first, that I've experienced.
Should online purchase of groceries by allowed to become the norm?
Zster comments on Jan 8, 2018:
Online ordering has it's place. I use it (with store pick up; shipping costs for perishables render online too expensive) for items that only come one way (canned, frozen, etc). When I need fresh items that I need to observe to select (produce, meats), I still go to the grocery. Since I still go and my online orders are still prepared at my brick and morter grocery, that store should continue to be viable. I do not see the flexibility and added convenience as bad things.
School of Life
Zster comments on Jan 8, 2018:
1. My late husband's 89 day cancer battle and death at 42: it's people who matter when time runs short, not status or stuff. 2. The follies of youth really do start taking a toll during mid life. I recently attended a college reunion. Most of us are now between the ages 50 and 60. Some classmates look old and worn, lije life isnearly done; others look like they could have graduated just five years ago. I know genetics play a role, but healthy living really can buy some time and quality thereof.
Funny not funny..
Zster comments on Jan 8, 2018:
I'm much more into Carlin and Woody Allen as opposed to Will Farrell or Adam Sandler. I enjoy subtle or even absurd humor with some intellectual bite. I like to have to think and then be surprised.
DId you guys hear about Internet prIce Increases ?
Zster comments on Jan 8, 2018:
I see absolutely no point in what passes for programmed TV these days. Give me on demand movies and documentaries and I am AOK. I stream NetFlix and Amazon Prime, with HBO Now during Game of Thrones season. We use a Roku and Apple TV box.
2018 Facebook Purge
Zster comments on Jan 8, 2018:
Yep! I deleted any that I could without causing a fuss and set 75% of the rest to not follow (preachy and political people). I also joined/follow numerous agnostic, science, and humor pages which floods my page with upbeat material. So far, so good!
I deleted my Facebook several months ago.
Zster comments on Jan 8, 2018:
I've quit following ALL friends who preach or politicize and joined numerous nonreligious, scientific, and humor groups. The resulting version of FB is much improved, for me for the time being.

His anti-science, anti-intellectual actions have been enough to earn my complete disdain.
Should there be age gap between couples marrying or in serious relationship?
Zster comments on Jan 7, 2018:
Every couple is different. No generalization about age should be applied to something so deeply personal. I've seen examples of each combination work and of each combination fail.
What is it about life that keeps you going without the promise of an afterlife?
Zster comments on Jan 7, 2018:
To rack up as many experiences as I can in the time given.
Ever been discriminated against because you were a non-believer?
Zster comments on Jan 7, 2018:
I'vr been smart enough to read the environment and bury my nonbelieving status. However, my daughter was not so lucky. She had a friend forbidden by her parents to stay friends with my daughter due to our not being christian. Also, a high school teacher, upon my daughter asking about nonreligious persecution, sent my child to the hallway and told her to never speak to the teacher or in class ever again. It's harsh down here in the south.
Imagine you could say "take me to Hell" into your GPS. Where on the map would it lead you?
Zster comments on Jan 7, 2018:
Millen, Georgia. EVERY time I have gone through there, I have been treated horrendously by any business I have visited. It's uncanny how awful folks there have been, across the board.
Who among us has cut the proverbial TV cord?
Zster comments on Jan 7, 2018:
In a nutshell: MTV plays no music, The History Channel primarily runs shows about aliens and big foot, even The Weather Channel runs shows instead of presenting the latest weather. Combine poor quality programming with ridiculous prices, it was a no brainer decision (for me). I cut years ago and stream NetFlix and Amazon Prime Video. My family prefers using the TV to mirror amusing YouTube vids from our phones. Comedy from regular folks tends to be a lot funnier than that which has been screened to death in board rooms...
Just a giggle...
