Tiny homes: Could you live in one?
Zster comments on Nov 26, 2017:
Nope.I need storage, enough kitchen to cook from scratch in, and a guest bedroom. I can camp to play at pseudo tiny living.
What Are Your Reading Preferences?
Zster comments on Nov 25, 2017:
I really cannot just pick one. Five would have been more accurate. (sci-fi, fantasy, nonfiction, historical, AND romance).
Why are there so many people in the USA ready to condemn an agnostic or atheist in questioning the ...
Zster comments on Nov 25, 2017:
In this region, it's a result of very deliberate indoctrination, aiming to bind members more tightly to the cult by maligning non-members (nonbelievers or other religions). It not only makes it ok to harm these non-members, but even rewards such abominable behavior, which just reinforces and spreads it.
Attraction: How much do voices make a difference?
Zster comments on Nov 25, 2017:
Oh yes. Maybe not so much as a turn off, but a certain voice type or character can be downright seductive... I tend to be drawn to a low rumbling growl at moments of intense attraction.
If you were into someone and they told you, I'm not into a relationship at this time but later they ...
Zster comments on Nov 25, 2017:
I'd take that as a firm "no" right now, and a possible "maybe" at some nebulous point in the future. I honestly think it's a gentle way of saying "not romantically interested". I was not seeking when I met my late husband, but you can bet I MADE time for him when we met and the opportunity was there.
If you find yourself in a box, how do you get out?
Zster comments on Nov 25, 2017:
I typically refuse to be boxed in in the first place, but for the times that anyone dares to try, I tend to unnerve them with some unexpected or embarrassing (for them) behavior and make my escape while they are shaking their head in disgust.
One for the ladies! :)
Zster comments on Nov 25, 2017:
There are multiple uniforms for many of those... I checked navy, recalling Richard Gere in navy whites in "An Officer and a Gentleman". Honestly, a uniform warns me off as I am a free spirited nature type who tends to not mesh at all with a formal structure type (which military members tend to be).
Women and atheism
Zster comments on Nov 25, 2017:
MUCH easier for me as an atheist woman. Our fundamental church treated me as a sinner (like they were somehow not?) for not remarrying immediately (the bible would have required I marry my drug addled brither in law). I have worked and raised our two kids on my own, living chastely (no dating), which is fine by secular standards, but still causes church tongues to wag.
I have trouble sleeping can any one recommend a drug-less cure....?
Zster comments on Nov 25, 2017:
Sleepytime tea by Celestial Seasonings really helped me. It had chamomile (sp?) and valerian in it. Now they sell that formula as Sleepytime Extra (to include the valerian). I also dropped any/all caffeine after noon.
The silliness of the “War on Christmas.
Zster comments on Nov 25, 2017:
Keep in mind, many who are offended by "happy holidays" are NOT offended by pedophile pastors/priests. Their values are way out of whack, for sure.

What kind of posts do you prefer?
Zster comments on Nov 24, 2017:
I enjoy questions that get us to speak of our own experiences, questions about relationships/love, and questions with a humorous aspect (for entertainment). I dislike posts that lead quickly into negativity, which many political and religious posts seem prone to doing.
Is getting married important to non religious women.
Zster comments on Nov 24, 2017:
All the ugliness about same sex marriage has me thinking it's a mere formality. I can commit to one other in a more meaningful and private way, to be honest. That said, though, the tax break (for filing married in the US) is a bit tempting.
If Jesus came back today, what would you do?
Zster comments on Nov 24, 2017:
Take him to the principal's office and grill him with questions. "WTF were you thinking, dude?"
Isn't it so annoying when a religious person tells you," you're taking it out of context?"
Zster comments on Nov 24, 2017:
In what context would it be less horrible?

Temporary non-believers
Zster comments on Nov 24, 2017:
I could see it several ways: 1: they really DON'T believe, but use believer status for their own nefarious purposes, OR, 2: they believe too well and either A: expect to be forgiven anyway or B: do not consider such atrocities as sins because their bible shows many examples of similar behavior, without calling it out as "bad".
Greed: Is it good or bad?
Zster comments on Nov 24, 2017:
Greed: an inordinate desire to acquire or possess more than one needs. By this definition, I'd say bad. Taking MORE than one needs risks others having to go without what they need.
Does anyone else have mixed feelings this Thanksgiving what we celebrate with our friends and ...
Zster comments on Nov 23, 2017:
I've always considered it a harvest holiday, which can be worth celebrating, as is the slow down from summer and the storing up for winter, allowing us time to relax and enjoy being together. (note: black friday, etc, are not part of our traditions).

High school bands 1979-82: oboe, alto sax, soprano and alto recorders. My folks sold the oboe to pay for college (mine), but I still have a sax. My 20 YO child has two flutes and played piccolo in high school. Are we forming a band? Virtual, perhaps?

Zster comments on Nov 23, 2017:
Double dipping. This I learned from my parents' marriage: They'd sought counseling. When they disagreed, each was to vote. 10 100% for doing this thing and 0 for absolutely will not do it, no matter what. Somehow, I forget the algorithm, either a 0 or 10 takes ZERO consideration of your spouse's vote, overriding if you will. Anything between involved some give and take. It's very telling if one willingly chooses to override their spouse very often. I found that I DID care about his opinion, more often than not. This also tied in to my honest desire to see him fulfilled and happy, not for what such got for me, but because I truly wanted the best for him.
I have been married before and I learned a lot about what makes a good relationship great and what ...
Zster comments on Nov 23, 2017:
I learned a ton from my marriage. Number one was to allow your spouse a shot at fixing things. My husband accused me of not being fair (I highly value fairness) when I did not complain when he messed up. He said that the fair thing would be to allow him to try to fix it, or to talk it out so he might better understand my point of view. We learned a ton about each other that way, and really grew as a couple.
What does your family think of your beliefs?
Zster comments on Nov 22, 2017:
The only ones outside of my home who know are my parents. We all deconverted around the same time. Mom still prays to a god of her own understanding. It bothers her that I do not, but she leaves it be for the most part (takes an OCCASIONAL cheap shot). My in-laws and the rest of the family have no idea. I see no need to upset them with my disbelief. My 17 and 20 YO kids know right where I stand, better than anyone else does. I think they are agnostic for the time being. We each sort of walk our own spiritual (or non) path.
What do you regret?
Zster comments on Nov 22, 2017:
I absolutely would insist on follow up diagnostics following his first cancer, definitely changing his primary doctor. I do not know if catching the second cancer earlier would have changed anything, but, as it played out, we got mere DAYS! He didn't have a chance.
How can we improve this community?
Zster comments on Nov 22, 2017:
HELP!!! The message function wont work! I am getting messages, repeatedly, and when the conversation reached the bottom of the page, it froze! The sender sees everything fine, but I can see nothing more. The screen wont scroll. Rebooting my iPhone (6, running iOS 20.3.3) did not fix it.
How can they say the earth is only 10,000 years old?
Zster comments on Nov 22, 2017:
Many young earthers in my current geography believe that the evidence (of a much older earth) has been strategically placed by satan to deliberately lead people away from god and salvation.
Does it really matters to know how the Universe came to existence?

What is your favorite animal?
Zster comments on Nov 22, 2017:
I greatly like so many! Mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, insects, crustaceans, molluscs... My fave pet species would be cats, though reptiles are a close second.
This is for the ladies...does size matter?
Zster comments on Nov 21, 2017:
Size matters to an extent, but turgor matters a ton (shorter but hard can be thrilling and long but semi-soft can be frustrating) as does a partner's interest and willingness regarding the lady's pleasure. A selfish clueless guy wont get me off at all, regardless of what he's packing. Give me a size typical partner who is highly turned on and reading my response, adjusting (and yes, asking is ok, for me) to escalate my pleasure ANY day! (:

Do you think nice guys will ever come in 1st
Zster comments on Nov 21, 2017:
That depends on how one defines it. Authentic men who are kind, patient, compassionate should find a suitable mate in time. It CAN take time, though. Patience can be key. The self-proclaimed, projecting "nice" as a way to get laid types might encounter more trouble finding anyone who wants to stick around. (FWIW, this applies to everyone. None of us gets to label ourself as "nice", only others can validate that).
Can some women here give me "tips" on how to "woo" a strong independent Feminist woman?
Zster comments on Nov 21, 2017:
I fell for a successful confident guy who celebrated my successes with me, rather than being threatened by them or trying to belittle them. He sought an equal 50/50 partner, accepting that we each brought strengths and weaknesses to the table, without dictating what those had to be. He requested my input and seriously listened, grateful for whatever I could contribute. We ended up together, falling into roles that reflected what each liked and disliked doing. It was easy, comfortable, natural, and very fun!
You know, all my brushes with love and relationships are like that Alanis Morrisette song, Ironic.

Zster comments on Nov 21, 2017:
I typically will consider it a quiet moment for personal reflection. If tagged with "would you lead us in prayer", I choose a moment of silence (for the group) instead. THAT tends to prevent being asked to lead another in the future. If someone criticizes the quiet moment, I ask them who/what the prayer is for. Supposedly, it is not for human ears, for showing off before others.
What is your raison d'être?
Zster comments on Nov 21, 2017:
I feel like a mutant in not needing one. I am thrilled to just BE. If I get this one life, I want to experience the sweetness of it, savoring every moment. I want to enjoy this ride, seeing where it takes me. That is not to say that I would do so selfishly or while causing harm or damage along the way.

It's nice having all these intellectual conversations with like-minded people (.
Zster comments on Nov 21, 2017:
Can we have at least ONE site that is religious zealot free? No offense, but many other sites already create an arena for full out religious debate. I hang out here to escape it.
How open are you about debate?
Zster comments on Nov 19, 2017:
I am conflict averse. I realize debate is not necessarily combative, but to a peacenik like myself, it can feel surprisingly so. Lively discussion where people exchange ideas and are open to revision of theirs can be pretty stimulating.
WHAT'S YOUR POSITION ON ABORTION ?
Zster comments on Nov 19, 2017:
I think its awful to need one or to have to contemplate one, though I honestly do not see it as "murder" if the embryo cannot survive on it's own. What I do NOT understand is also blocking access to birthcontrol. It's as if folks WANT to beat ladies up over abortion when pregnancy is preventable. Also... if men want to exercise their opinion, why don't THEY do some prevention and not contribute to so much baby making?
What is your favorite word in the English language?
Zster comments on Nov 19, 2017:
Borborygmus. A silly sounding word in its own right, which identifies a somewhat humorous event. It is a wonderful example of onomatopoeia, which, incidentally, happens to be my second favorite word.
What was the first and last concert you attended?
Zster comments on Nov 19, 2017:

Worth the wait?
Zster comments on Nov 16, 2017:
There's no particular distance as I don't actively seek. The right one will come along, drawn by my living my life joyously and well. That could happen here, or half way around the world. Regarding settling: nope. No one deserves to be settled for. Each should be loved fully, for exactly who they are.
Do you think that religion of all sorts should be banned from Europe?
Zster comments on Nov 14, 2017:
Part of me would love to ban it globally, BUT... if religion is the ONLY reason that some do not steal, abuse, rape, kill at will, I'll keep some religion. It would be nice if it was a somewhat watered down version that poses no threat to society, though.
Thank you all for being bitter, sarcastic assholes. I feel a little more at home here. :D
Zster comments on Nov 14, 2017:
Welcome home, dickhead! (;
How's your sense of humor?
Zster comments on Nov 14, 2017:
Antijoke = unjoke? If do, they crack me up because I am a huge fan of the absurd. I enjoy subtle humor as well as irreverent humor. I love to laugh (doing so often, causing trouble for myself in certain "serious" situations) and greatly relish the element of surprise.
Why are people always looking for the unattainable?
Zster comments on Nov 14, 2017:
Not unrealistic at all. I am fine on my own and so only would pair up with someone great. When I was not even looking, great happened, so I know it's possible and set the bar pretty high. It seems to me that most of my friends have settled (miserable or divorced), afraid of being alone and that they are asking too much or are impatient.
What created this me first generation?
Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
It's not one generation as folks of all ages (around where I am, anyway) seem to be polarizing and refusing to give. I figure it's the result of diminishing education and increasing malleability by the media, convincing large numbers that all is a black/white, us/them situation. The truth, I hope, is that most want the same thing: to live a comfortable life worth living. Sure seems that many should be able to reach across the apparent divide to make that happen.
Who agrees the time for "thoughts and prayers" is over?
Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
I am VERY ready for this to be over. It's insulting. Obviously you are aware that tragedy is/could/has happened, but choose zero action. Thinking you did not know hurts a lot less than having you confirm that you do, but can't be bothered.
Tom Petty (R.I.P.)
Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
I love all of his hits, and pretty much everything off "Full Moon Fever", "Into the Great Wide Open", and "Wildflowers". Off the cuff, though, "Built to Last" and "The Apartment Song" both popped into my mind when I saw this question. Sure am going to miss him!
Exercise anyone?
Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
Long walk, BUT time is a huge issue. I dislike running and would likely only do so under dire circumstances. If/when I use the treadmill, I almost always walk with incline, rather than jog. Otherwise, I mostly weight train at the gym, with a trainer to mix things up. I am currently on a month long hiatus following abdominal surgery. Hate it.
Has the thought ever crossed your mind that the big bang was when god committed suicide because he ...
Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
You might not be so alone in that thinking... in Walsh's "Conversations with God", existence was the result of god fractionating into zillions of bits in order to have lots of experiences. I took that to mean that extreme boredom was a very real possibility, prior.
Do you ever think about how cruel evolution is?
Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
I took that as dry humor... I am hoping for a bit of a gap between my vision clearing and dirt on the casket. So far... I've rather enjoyed the ride!
If you could name 1 decision you have made that has greatly improved your life what would you ...
Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
As an ENFP, I simply cannot give just one answer... In chrono order: 1. Said yes to marrying my late husband 2. Applied and attended vet school 3. Agreed to "try" having kids who we agreed we were not going to have when we got married 4. Sought recovery support for quitting alcohol
The number one question I get when I tell people I'm an atheist is "what happened to you?
Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
Nothing happened to ME, but I saw the church dish out all kinds of hatred toward gays and the like, which went in direct opposition to christ's supposed message of love... Who wants to be part of a club of haters? Not me.
How has religion suppressed your sexuality?
Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
It never did. Even when with the church, I realized that a superior being would not care if I pleasured myself or chose intimacy without marriage, but that pervy power-grabby PEOPLE would.

Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
Ok, here's one that I developed from my grandmother's Betty Crocker recipe: Z's "cheater" mac and cheese Prep = time to cook mac plus 10 minutes, then an hour bake. This is SUPER easy! Ingredients: Elbow macaroni 16 oz butter - 1 stick velveeta original - 8 oz block 1-2 jars alfredo sauce 2c +/- grated cheese for top Aluminim foil Lasagna pan (I use pyrex) - ungreased Preheat oven to 375degF Boil mac al dente, dump into ungreased lasagna pan. Add the following while mac is hot. Top with blocks of velveeta Pour over alfredo sauce (from jar) Place butter in blocks over that Sprinkle with grated cheese Bake, covered w foil for 30 minutes (Use whatever trick you like to keep foil from sticking to the gooey cheese on top). Remove foil and bake another 15-30 minutes until desired browning of the top. Let sit10 minutes, then cut and serve. I do NOT recommend making ahead and baking from cold. It simply does not turn out as well. I prefer to bake it first, then reheat in the microwave, later. Infinite variations if you add seasonings, try different pastas or cheeses.

Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
Agree! It makes sense to me to have a dating aspect to an otherwise social site as dating is indeed social. I am, however, greatly enjoying the more general discourse WITHOUT the inevitable ugliness that seems to come with the arrival (crashing?) of the religious.

Does marriage equate to love?
Zster comments on Nov 12, 2017:
Nope. It is a socio-legal contract, useful for sorting out property and the custody of children, but, if easily dissolved, not worth much beyond that. Given the social ugliness surrounding the same sex marriage debate, I probably would avoid the institution altogether, were I to find another to consider growing old(er) with.
I have a what if.... What if the definition of the word god meant to create?

The din of boistrous meals shared between multiple generations of the family gathered at the dinner table. 4. Watching the sun rise, through mist rising off the lake as the first person awake at a family campsite. 5. Singing loudly with my kids, and occasionally with my parents, to music belting from the car speakers as we are en route to pretty much anywhere.

5 things..
Zster comments on Nov 4, 2017:
1. The laughter that my almost adult children share with each other in their private sibling world. 2. Any good community experience. Such moments make me want to hold a snapshot of the event within my heart, never to let it go. 3. Moments when my pets embarrass themselves doing something poorly thought through. I have to wonder what blunders we miss that occur in nature. 4. The bliss of a perfect cup of coffee, with a piece of smooth chocolate, slowly savored on a morning when I do not have to rush anywhere. 5. The first really warm days of the year, feeling the sun kissing my skin, while a gentle breeze stirs my hair across my shoulders. Toss in the tang of salt air and I am in heaven.
Politics is infused in every aspect of society these days.

Do you people think that we should celebrate Thanksgiving knowing full well how things turned out ...
Zster comments on Nov 3, 2017:
I'll jump on almost any excuse to celebrate with rest, food, and loved ones. Many peoples celebrate the harvest, sort of a last blast before winter. Of course I do not celebrate the evils of our ancestors, but I have no problem with being grateful to get to eat, have a roof over my head, and still have people in my life. For me, this was never a god holiday.

Similar sentiment here. It's a type of advertising. My thinking: if the only reason they have for you to shop there is their christianity (I've seen no other religions used that way here), rather than stellar service or great products, I'd be better off shopping elsewhere. Another possibility: I sometimes wonder if these store owners really hope to keep nonbelievers OUT. Strange, sure, but seems plausible, given how some treat us.

Zster comments on Oct 19, 2017:
My opinion matters little. I have only seen them cut (no intacts). I know that the procedure hurts (babies cry) and would not DARE make such a personal decision for anyone, infant or otherwise.
Do you object to the term "RELIGITARDS" or do you think it appropriate?
Zster comments on Oct 19, 2017:
Not enough voting options! I dislike it because it tends to be meanly intended, AND is obliquely insulting to the learning challenged. However, I DO agree with the sentiment that the religious tend to be highly gullible and likely lacking in intelligence, skepticism, or logic skills.
Does "have a blessed day" bother you?
Zster comments on Oct 19, 2017:
While it might make me want to roll my eyes, typically it is a kindly intended platitude. I usually just graciously accept it.
What US political party do you align with?
Zster comments on Oct 19, 2017:
Left leaning moderate, but no party affiliation. I tend to vote according to issues, although I am jaded enough to disbelieve most candidates' claims regarding said issues. Often they cannot fulfill their campaign promises OR flat out lie to get the vote.
Would you call yourself a sci-fi/fantasy fan?
Zster comments on Oct 19, 2017:
LOVE Sci Fi!! Raised on Star Trek (original series) and was a huge TNG fan. Love all of the movies, too. I am also a Star Wars geek. Others: Blade Runner (original), Logan's Run, Planet of the Apes (original), Sleeper etc... and the series Space 1999.
