Just for fun, since some of these other topics are heavy.
Zster comments on Oct 15, 2017:
Gotta love that you asked our fave, singular, then listed a bunch! (; Mine (mostly oldies): Full Metal Alchemist, Fruits Basket, Baccano, Durrrarara (sp?), Ouran HC, early Bleach, Mob Psycho 100, and DeathNote until they killed off L.
Any Theater Geeks Out There? What do you do? Favorite plays/musicals?
Zster comments on Oct 15, 2017:
My work and family lives don't leave time to participate, but I enjoy seeing a show now and then, and listening to the sound tracks. Have seen/want to see: Book of Mormon, Hamilton, Newsies, West Side Story, Fiddler, JC Superstar, Godspell (from my believing days - still enjoy the music).
Whats your assessment of online dating?
Zster comments on Oct 15, 2017:
I think it's pretty normal these days, though some prefer face to face meeting and don't use it (it's not all inclusive).
How many agnostics, atheists are out there who actually want to date another agnostic/atheist?
Zster comments on Oct 15, 2017:
I am not one to seek dates, but will say, if I was to connect, I cannot fathom it being with anyone who is religious. I would certainly be most drawn to a nonreligious sort.
Most terrifying experience?
Zster comments on Oct 15, 2017:
Hmm my most terrifying experiences involved loved ones, not me (watching husband die of cancer, searching house for body of my possibly suicided daughter). The scariest that directly threatened MY life was when I got an epidural when birthing my daughter, the anesthetist placed the needle in a vein, delivering a know heart stopping drug durectly to my heart. I thought I would die and hoped the baby would survive it. Pretty awful.
Do you think that godlessness is increasing or decreasing in our culture and why?
Zster comments on Oct 15, 2017:
Increasing.1: because the internet can quickly connect those having doubts with others of like mind, which can validate those doubts and 2: because religion's most vocal are putting a horrible face forward, publicly, at least here in the US.
How do you deal with Door-knockers?
Zster comments on Oct 14, 2017:
I often don't answer. We have "live reptiles" and "snakes present" signs on property as deterrents, which seem to be working. Occasionally, I will talk with them, getting their speech over as quickly as possible, taking the pamphlets.
How long has your longest relationship lasted?
Zster comments on Oct 14, 2017:
20 years married (22 together). Loved it! Separated by cancer.
Just lost my wife she didn't believe neither do I , but it would be easier if I did .
Zster comments on Oct 9, 2017:
Tommy, I've walked the widow's path. My husband died from cancer 11 years ago this month. Nothing hurts like it. I worked hard and long to stay alive, to find reason to wake up each morning. I wont tell you it's anything but the toughest of work, BUT, it ends up being worth it. Joy and peace eventually return. Thoughts of D make me smile now. I am glad that I stuck around for that to become true again. I have one suggestion, it helped me during my journey. I circled up with other widows online. Only they really understand. There might be several, but the one I liked best was widda.org.
Just joined! Hello all! I live in SC.
Zster comments on Oct 9, 2017:
Welcome, Sally! I live just across the river/lakes in GA.
Having seperate bedrooms: Would you be open to this?
Zster comments on Oct 9, 2017:
If a couple prefers separate beds and/or rooms, they should have them. For me, such an arrangement would have removed one of my favorite aspects of marriage: sleeping together. We were cuddlers, even in sleep. Sleeping alone again was a very difficult adjustment for me.
What do you say after someone sneezes?
Zster comments on Oct 9, 2017:
"Hash hopper!" My great grandmother used to say it, much to our amusement. I've never gotten an answer as to what it means or where it comes from.
In where you live (whether in your country or in your family), do Atheists/Agnostics get treated ...
Zster comments on Oct 9, 2017:
Yes, being ostracized or tossed out of the family home are VERY common where I live. I cannot imagine tossing your own minor children onto the street over religion. My parents worked through a wuasi devonversion at the same time that I did, so telling them did nit result in many waves, really, though my mom has mentioned wishing I still believed in a higher power of SOME sort.
Do you all advertise your Atheism publically?
Zster comments on Oct 9, 2017:
It's very frowned upon where I live. I have already had my children treated badly by adults (mostly at school) who know or suspect, so I have to be careful for them.
Is there a meaning of life?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
It does not in and of itself have meaning. We are simply of byproduct of life which is ever seeking to perpetuate itself. However, individuals can assign meaning or purpose to his/her own life as it suits. Personally, I consider myself to be a lottery winner of a sort by even existing. Thus, I want to rack up as much experience and enjoy each to the fullest while I can.
Where did you learn ethics and morality?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
From my parents and by experiencing (either directly or vicariously) the outcomes of various actions in society.
How do you respond when people say they will pray for you?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
My most genuine response is a HUGE eyeroll. However, sometimes the person is not someone I would offend. In those cases I meekly thank them and change the topic.
What nerdy activities do you enjoy? (gaming, cosplay, sci-fi)
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
Board games, card games, sci-fi/fantasy (books, films, TV shows), anime, cosplay. I just attended my first (NOT last) Ren Faire. I need to get IN to Dragon Con yet. I've attended the parade, but not gone to the actual con yet. Oh, and I was recently invited to LARP. Question: are escape rooms part of nerd culture do you think?
Do you ever miss the religious life?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
Nope.
Is life meaningful without religion?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
Absolutely!! Actually, religious lenses dulled the vibrant colors of life for me. Living unfettered is glorious, in all sorts of ways!
How to meet an atheist in a highly religious area?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
A few ideas: college campuses (nearby businesses), book stores, liberal political gatherings. I had luck on meetup.com. Also, our local UU "church" as well as a nearby unprogrammed (important detail) Quaker meeting contain nontheists.
Do you celebrate religious holidays?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
Mostly those that include gifts or food. (;
Moved from Las Vegas to Alabama about 6 months ago (yes family and friends back home are ok).
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
Condolences... I am in a similar situation in Georgia. Freethinkers etc tend to be a bit more common in major metros and college towns down here. You might find some that are organized, as I have (at Meetup.com).
Do you appreciate a theist friend's initiative to "save" you?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
Lol. I thought that was a case of drunk posting for sure! I am so glad that you found time to consider that I am a nonbeliever, though sorry if your thoughts left you in a state of confusion, as your punctuation would lead me to believe.
A better place, really?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
Don't get me started... I had to swallow so much religious platitude BS when my husband died (sorry about your mom, by the way. I'll freak when my mom's time comes!). "In a better place", really? Like having a happy marriage, working in a business of your own making, and getting watch your kids grow up in so awful...
When did you first doubt religion?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
At the age of 18, as soon as I left home for uni. The ONLY public church voice I heard in my new uni-home was in the newspaper and nearly 100% antigay and hateful. This was quite the reality check for a kid who grew up believing that the christ message was one of love, inclusion, and compassion.
Just because this is an Agnostic dating site it doesn't mean we have to talk about it.
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
Can we really DO that? Some of us might run amok with topic freedom fervor! (;
Fellow agnostics, how do you feel about believers joining?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
I came here to circle up with NONbelievers, specifically. ALL other aspects of my life are overrun with the religious. I just want a place to be myself and not have to worry about them. If this site chooses to go fully open, an understandable preference despite my not sharing it, I would likely drop out. Mixed, heavily religious sites pretty much own the internet, as well as US society in general. To become yet another typical site would be unfortunate. I certainly would not likely make time for that. An exclusive site, largely social (not the same old religion bashing) for nonbelievers? I am behind THAT 120%! I really hope this site goes that way. It's off to a wonderful start!
How do you tell if someone is into you?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
When I clicked on this, I did not know you meant online. That is a more tricky question... I guess I go by how warm/genuine the replies are, and how readily the person replies. When I am drawn to someone, I tend to be thinking about them, possibly checking on line frequently for replies if we have a back and forth conversation in play. Likewise, I will tend to reply quickly (circumstances allowing. I DO have a life in the real world: work, friends, family). My interactions might also lean a bit more toward flirty, maybe even subtly suggestive when I am intrigued romantically.
If you had a whole week free, no responsibilities, and whatever resources you needed, what would you...
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
Assuming I had resources ($$), I have a trip to the American NW that I REALLY want to take. The ideal would be two weeks: one in the city and the other in the nature of the San Juan islands. On second thought, make it FOUR weeks, so I can tack on a nice road trip out and another (different route) back.
Which do you prefer, to meet people online or in person and why?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
Meet in person, if we are talking romantic dating. For me, a lot of attraction and compatability is physically based. Too much is missing on line. It's easy for people to get overly invested (their hopes WAY up) online, only to be disappointed when it does not translate to physical life. I greatly enjoy the flirt of seeing someone in person, first.
What are your thoughts on open relationships?
Zster comments on Oct 8, 2017:
I am very monogamous and so would not go this route myself. However, if both members of a couple honestly desire and support openness, I would not begrudge them that opportunity. The few couples I have known who tried it were not fully honest about it. One wanted multiple partners and the other did not, but "went along" to keep the other partner happy.
I’m sick of supporting religious zealots...pay taxes!
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
If churches performed the charitable acts that are generally attributed to them, subtract those philanthropist $ from taxes owed. Those really doing works wont pay taxes, but those not can have the govt "help" them be more generous.
Would you raise your children religious just to fit in?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
No. They should choose, not me. "To fit in" is a lousy reason, but I do not put much stock in convention, so I could be biased.
Are you afraid of getting misunderstood?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Not really. I am a Myers-Briggs ENFP. I get misunderstood most of the time.
What are some of your hobbies/things you do with your free time?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Cooking, camping, kayaking, fishing, hiking, study of insects, aquatic life, reptiles, amphibians, bird feeding, cat keeping, rock and other music, contemporary art, color guard, and marching bands... to name a few.
Is hate/offensive speech free speech?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Yep, it is. My liking it is not a requirement, apparently. Wanna say something offensive? (;
Does anyone practice meditation?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Does my stint as an unprogrammed Quaker count? I spent an hour "in the silence" every First Day.
How fun! A new way to meet like minded people.
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
I know! Even if they ARE miles away...
Woah... I didn't realize a place like this existed. ????????
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Same here. Saw it on FB, was signed up two minutes later... Hi!!!
Any booklovers on this group? What authors/genres/topics do you like reading?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
I read constantly! Mostly scifi or romance, as escapism. I'll read nonfiction and went through wuite a few as I pulled out of religious belief. Current fave authors: GA Aiken, Sky Purington, Bianca D'Arc, Robin D Owens, Karen Moning, Diana Gabaldon.
In one word, how would you describe how you feel about the United States' current relationship with ...
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Disappointed.
New Here
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
I joined today. I am waiting to see how busy it is and the general mood. Am cautiously optimistic. I need SOMEPLACE where I can be my heathen self!
What kinds of foods do you eat (diet)?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Very. I hope to live long and well. I recently found out that I REALLY need to reduce carbs to improve my cholesterol panel (esp Triglycerides). So, I have largely dropped low value starches (did not eat much simple sugar, anyway) like bread, pasta, and potatoes. That leaves lean meats (incl fish) and veggies.
Dating and religion
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
I really disrespect religious belief. I cannot build much of anything starting from disrespect, and am not sure that I would want to.
As a crazy cat lady, I want to believe that I would see my cats in an after life, but much like ...
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
I don't necessarily believe in soul/afterlife, BUT hope that perhaps my brain might take me through a seemingly real nonending dream as I pass. If so, I hope such a dream is lucid and can go where I want it to. Therefore, all who I want "with me" will be, including my many beloved pets. (From one crazy cat lady to another).
QUOTE: 'I hope, for His sake, that God does not exist - because if He does He has an awful lot to ...
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
I thought Woody Allen stated that. "If God exists, I hope he has a good excuse." -Woody Allen
Would you date someone you met online?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Sure! A casual coffee date to see if we click offline as well as on seems a good idea. I have met several online friends in person. Am still friends with several, though have never formed romantic connections that way.
If you were brain dead and on life support, would you want your family to pull the plug?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Neither. I'd defer to what most comforts my loved ones, letting them unplug if/when they are ready. I honestly do not worry that it keeps me in purgatory or anything, and, if so, might even be willing to linger there if they need the time.
Anyone else slightly obsessed with documentaries?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Obsessed? That suggests that I find it problematic or worriesome. I am neither, BUT... I love documentaries! I watch a wide array of topics: nature, health, medicine, geography, etc. I enjoy addiction docs, too, though can find some abrasive.
What are your biggest pet peeves, and why?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
1. Generalizers, in general 2. People who are rude in an olfactory sense, be it BO, stinky food, nasty perfume...
How to deal with religious family and friends?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
We basically avoid the topic in order to get along. Mom is not religious anymore, but has a god belief. When she takes shots at me, "oh yeah, YOU no longer believe in...", I stop talking. She's gotten better at avoiding that. I am not closeted, but tend to keep my beliefs private.
Should I baptize my kids to appease my mom?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
No. Allowing them to choose when they get to an age to decide for themselves is a very valid answer. If she wants to override their rights in this, I'd take that as a red flag.
How religious does a person have to be, before it is a deal breaker to date them?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Pretty much any. If they seriously belive it, we are not going click. Sadly, the disrespect that being religious stirs up in me would make anything beyond passing acquaintance highly improbable.
Do you date outside of your race?
Zster comments on Oct 7, 2017:
Heck yes! In seeking meaningful connections, I don't want to write off potentially wonderful people over something superficial. Greatness comes in all colors, as does ass-holeness.
