On this website: I immediately block anyone who starts praising Trump and any of his racist policies, anyone who insults women for wanting equal rights, men who post pics of their genitals or say inappropriate things about women's bodies, anyone who starts insulting and attacking me when I mention anything they don't personally believe in, etc.
Not sure how I got here but I hope to meet someone who also likes garlic bread
birdingnut comments on May 21, 2018:
Gracious! Who DOESN'T love garlic bread? Back when I could eat such food with impunity, I used to bake all kinds of breads from scratch, from pita bread to French baguettes to ethnic European braided breads. I even made doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, etc. I finally noticed I didn't feel well anymore, and was getting increasingly congested, so stopped eating bread decades ago. I just started cautiously eating dry whole wheat toast recently, and no problems so far..
I figure this is the best way to get the most opinions.

No, but there have been studies that show that when nuclear families are nurturing and take care of the children, the children physically mature at a much slower rate than the general population, with prolonged childhoods. Researchers theorize that when children are protected, it's safe for them to mature more slowly, gaining the advantage of more parental instruction, giving their own children more advantages. However, if the the scent of strange adult male urine is present, and children are subjected to stress, as when there is sexual abuse in the home, girls mature much more quickly, presumably to give them a chance to procreate while still alive.

Are social expectations an influence on how parents feel towards their children?
birdingnut comments on May 20, 2018:
Yup. I'm 65, and even in my childhood, parents lived their own, adult lives and let their kids raise themselves. Kids were to stay quiet, be instantly obedient, and were expected to be "useful," do chores, and uphold the family name. Mothers usually put food on the table, and made sure the kids got baths and did their chores. The father was expected to discipline any disobedience. Adults talked down to children, if at all. My father never told me he loved me and my mother almost never touched me, even when I was a baby, so she wouldn't "spoil" me. Today, both parents are expected to cuddle and nurture their children, constantly telling them they love them. I don't know if that makes them love them more, but it makes it seem that way, since parents who express hostility toward their children might be reported by concerned neighbors.

I'm puzzled why so many Americans seem to think living alone, or being single, is a "bad thing," that needs a solution. In Thailand, nobody even notices if you are single or not. I love it, myself. My motto for dating: Being with him has to more fun than being single. If a Thai woman has a good job, she often stays single so she can keep the money herself.

She seems to be genuinely in love, and both Harry and Meghan are passionate supporters of charities worldwide. Just because someone is a famous TV star or royal does NOT mean there's open season to criticize them. Since Harry's mother was a casualty of the royal family, and he has recently spoken out about his depression because of it, he seems to be working to loosen rigid royal traditions. The queen has learned her lesson enough this time to not try to force Harry to marry a "virgin" noblewoman, as she did with Prince Charles. No doubt Meghan's life will be more restricted, but she still has more freedom than Kate and WIlliam, who still have to maintain royal protocol, to some extent.

I am distressed by the American media's obsession with the "royal wedding.
birdingnut comments on May 19, 2018:
People might not see the wedding between a white royal and a biracial, divorced, American woman as important if they are privileged whites. But for the black and biracial community..long marginalized, this was a watershed moment. Two young people who are both passionate about their charity work around the world, who are famous in their own rights, now giving hope to people who have never seen themselves represented in the royal family. I loved the black choir, the black cellist, whose incredible playing made me cry, and a black preacher from a different church denomination than the official royal Church of England, even though the preaching was my least favorite part, since I don't believe in it. The black choir even sang a black 1960s soul song..wonderful! It was amazing..even Meghan's veil celebrated each country in the Commonwealth. The royal family paid for the wedding, Meghan paid for the honeymoon, and the only cost to British taxpayers was the cost of security for the event. The thousands of tourists pouring in for the event boosted the British economy. I am sick of bad news, so this was WONDERFUL.

Both my kids are androgyne, as I am, and, like me, don't seem at all interested in marriage and starting families..more geared toward pursuing their passions.

Queen Charlotte, the German wife of “mad” King George III and mother of his 15 children, is descended from a Portuguese noblewoman, who was in turn descended from a 13th-century king and his mistress, Madragana, who may have been a Moor, or black person. Eighteenth-century commentators said she had “negroid” features and a royal doctor declared her as having a “true mulatto face”. If Valdes is correct, all the royal family would have black heritage, including Victoria and the modern royals.

I technically qualify all of the above, except that I resemble a pretty, cis hetero woman, so generally get a free pass. Besides, I'm a demisexual, lacking sexual attraction for any person or gender, so am not seen chasing the wrong gender.. Because I'm female, my fearless male-like behavior is seen as brave and admirable by both genders, and I didn't realize I'm agnostic until the 2016 election. Since I've been in tolerant Thailand since 2010, no religious confrontations in the US yet, although I'm been preached at by Christian ex-pats I've met here. I immediately distanced myself from them.

I suggest you declutter and simplify your profile, leaving enough details that potential dates can evaluate your compatibility. Right now, it's a wall of words, which might make people move on. Suggestions: list hobbies, dating preferences, and interests, and enough background to inform potential dates. Then make comments and write posts and interact with people who respond to you.
If a man says you're hot, that's not a compliment.
birdingnut comments on May 18, 2018:
I would feel outraged if a man referred to me in a sexual yardstick manner, such as saying I was "hot" or a "7." I do not exist for his viewing or sexual critiquing pleasure. Unlike most cis hetero men, who would likely love to referred to in a sexual manner, I want to be seen as a person.

You could try getting him a companion bird of some type. If not another eclectus, then a less expensive parrot or other bird option, so he can interact with something. Parrots mate for life, and if he sees you as his mate, he's likely to freak out when you aren't physically with him at all times. They can, however, bond with other birds, relieving separation anxiety.

Actually, that's a power we have, apparently..nothing to do with "religion." I've had it happen to me a number of times..vitamins that never ran out, a money purse that was always full, no matter how many times I emptied it, food that seemed to never run out, no matter the number of people. As with most of the psychic manifestations, whenever I freaked out about it, it stopped. It mostly happened when I wasn't paying much attention, and I realized what happened only in retrospect. That's also how I teleported. My car once jumped right through an oncoming truck that was about to hit me head on, and I found myself behind it, with my car intact. I'd start on a four-hour trip with my husband and see the exit sign for the town five minutes after getting on the interstate. I drove for two years in a car without a working speedometer and was able to routinely travel to Louisville and Cincinnati in 20-40 minutes from my farm near Morehead, usually a 2-3 hour trip. After I got a car with a working speedometer, and I could monitor my progress, it stopped. To my great annoyance, I was back to long, tiresome trips. The same thing happened with my daughter and her cars. "For physicists, the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." -Einstein. They held off the much larger stallion until I could get there with a bucket of oats and lead rope to get the stallion (I called the vet, threw the stallion, and had him gelded within two hours). My son's horse, Black Jack, risked injury more than once to keep my son safe.

Studies show that both newborn humans and higher animals are born with an innate sense of morality in some things, such as justice. Everyone loves the YouTube video of the scientist giving two monkeys, in different cages, a piece of cucumber each time they pulled the correct lever sequence. But after a while, the first monkey was rewarded with a delicious grape for pulling the levers, but the second monkey was still given a piece of cucumber, when it completed the task. The first monkey immediately screamed in rage, hurling the piece of cucumber at the researcher!

I kept asking what term was OK to use, and the only one that wasn't nixed was "woman." This is difficult for me to grasp, since I resemble a normal, cis female but I don't identify with either gender. I don't mind being referred to by either female or male pronouns, but neither gender label seems to have anything to do with my self-identity. For that reason, I appreciate cis women telling me what gender labels make them feel comfortable, since I can't speak from the perspective of a "fellow woman." All my life, I felt puzzled that I felt a flash of rage whenever anyone used a female pronoun or label for me. I also choked back anger whenever someone used my female name. After I realized I'm a partial transmale, in 2014, I understood why..my male side was outraged at being mislabeled as a GURL. I discovered that a common Thai herb, derris scandens, found here in Thailand but also sold on Amazon and eBay, blends my male and female gender modes into a blended androgyne personality that accepts both gender sides, and doesn't take offense at gender labels anymore. But I still love it when my ex, who came out as nonbinary female in 2016, calls me by my chosen male name and says things like, "How are you doing, man?. I also call her by female pronouns and her chosen female name, because I understand how it feels.
My perfect match would be someone who loves nature as passionately as I do, and is either a climber ...

Hi, Viking! You'll earn points, and let other members get to know you better, if you write your profile and answer the profile questions, since that's the first place many people look when they see a new member. Then you can make comments and write your own posts to gain more points, and when you reach level two you can private message people.
My friend really changed after becoming a vegetarian. It's like I've never known herbivore.

Yup. Maybe Trump is vile enough to inspire Millennials to vote and get rid of him.

Hi, Boho, and welcome to the website. You earned points by writing a profile and answering many of the profile questions, but you might consider writing a more succinct profile that includes pertinent information about your tastes and hobbies that could influence their decision to choose you.
Trying to understand transgender perspective
birdingnut comments on May 14, 2018:
Transmen and transwomen are usually born assuming they're the opposite gender of their birth genders, but transmales usually don't fully realize it until puberty and their bodies "betray" them. For transwomen, it's the first time they choose feminine toys or clothing, and are punished by adults. It's not something they "want" to achieve, or learned from culture. I never "wished" I could be a boy..I just knew I was, and my family and friends assumed it also. We all knew at some level I was born a girl, but my mind had been initialized with male hormones so that's how I acted, assuming my male superiority, and people reacted to me as though to a male.

What terms do you prefer?
birdingnut comments on May 14, 2018:
The US is big on labels. I noticed that my transgender and androgynous European friends here in Thailand don't bother with labels at all, and the Thai only have a few, paying little attention to mixed gender presentations. But since people seem to comprehend reality through language, it clarifies my mind on my own issues to compare myself with current gender labels to see if my experience matches others. This helps me understand myself and know who else is similar to me. Many of the labels are vague and/or overlap, so I qualify for many more labels than I choose to claim. I was gender fluid but became androgyne from taking the Thai herb derris scandens. I am also a partial transmale, and qualify for other nonbinary labels: agender, other, genderqueer, and neutrois, among others.
Any Sam Harris fans?
birdingnut comments on May 14, 2018:
Sam Harris' book, Waking Up is an improved, revised version of his first rational viewpoint. I don't agree with everything, for instance I know from experience that there's reincarnation, but at least he's starting to think now. Why not reincarnation? Einstein showed us that all matter is a form of energy, so since energy can neither be created nor destroyed, we have always existed and will always exist in some energy form. "For physicists, the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." -Einstein Also, we are co-creators of our own universe..contributing to making our own reality; “Consciousness is fundamental and matter is derived from consciousness." – Max Planck, theoretical physicist who originated quantum theory, 1918 Nobel Prize in Physics
