Wow! The earliest memory I have is of me standing up in one of those little wooden cages, they used to keep babies in, back in 'olden days'. A bunch of adults were sitting around, ogling me, and treating me like I was a baby or something. I can remember clinging to the bars of my cage, feeling frustrated at not being articulate enough to express my indignation! I think I might have been six months old at the time.
It seems that being atheist or agnostic is now looked at as a type of religion
davknight comments on Jan 11, 2019:
Religion says 'believe it'. Science says 'prove it'. Atheism is indeed another form of religion. The atheist says 'there is no god, no great pumpkin, no great bunny rabbit, no way, no how!'. Yet, they cannot prove, or disprove their assertion. They just expect you to believe it. That's why I choose to be agnostic. Agnosticism is the scientific approach.

Zapata Petroleum became a business 'front' for CIA activities in Latin America. He did indeed have a shady past!
I recently watched a YouTube video that deconstructed wealth as a marker for success.
davknight comments on Dec 4, 2018:
If the rich are "successful", it means ten percent of the population enjoy the wealth produced by the other ninety percent. It also implies the other ninety percent are "failures". Twelve-thousand years ago, when class-stratified societies began, the ten percenters were telling the ninety percenters that their wealth and status was "the will of the Gods". A hundred years ago, the ten percenters justified their position in society by saying they were the product of "good breeding". Nowadays, they are "successful". But what it really means is that Humans have failed to figure out a way of distributing surpluses.

I used to have a research library of over 3,500 volumes. But I sold it to a lady who was setting up a used book store, because I was moving to another State, and couldn't take them all with me. It was mostly all history, anthropology, the natural sciences, biographies, and classics. I told myself I'd never accumulate another library again. But my problem is I can't stay away from used book sales. So now, I'm back up to about 350 books!

davknight comments on Nov 17, 2018:
I used to drive close to seventy miles, round-trip, between home, school, and work. At the time, I thought it seemed 'normal', because I lived in a rural, western community, where practically everybody made long commutes. It's only now, that I live in Florida, that I realize just how long those commutes were! In many States, they have 'park-and-rides', which are parking lots out by Interstate on-ramps, where you can leave your vehicle, and car-pool to your destination. I've often thought all States should have those.

Look up the lyrics to the "Colonel Bogie March" sometime. It is a late-1930s British Army marching song, that is basically one long limerick, that derides Adolph Hitler, Hermann Goering, and Benito Mussolini. For those who've never heard of it, it is also the theme song for the film, "The Bridge Over The River Kwai". The producers had the extras whistle the tune, as some people might have found the lyrics 'offensive' back then.

davknight comments on Nov 9, 2018:
The 'bible belt' is basically Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina, with pockets of evangelicals elsewhere. The people of this region have been conditioned to think that they can be as sinful as they want, so long as they go to church twice on Sunday, and once on Wednesday. And they will still be able to get front-row seats in Heaven! Their preachers/pastors exert a good deal of influence over them; and if told to vote for particular candidates, they will. So, they can always be counted on to vote for candidates that are opposed to abortion, and anything else their clergy finds reprehensible.

A little , you get a horizontal, stone plate. And if you have zero , you end up in a crematory oven!".
