Savory as i have know it has been one of two plants known by that name, summer savory is the one most often sold. You use it in place of salt, but use it sparingly as it has a very pungent flavor. It is used in dry beans especially if you are doing the no soak cooking method. Cook as you normally would using savory to replace some of the salt. It can also be used in rubs for poultry and pork. As with any spice, figure out how much you like, the recipe measurements can vary wildly just like the strength of the spice. I just replenished my supply, I used as much as I had before and it was way over powering.

I had never used savory spice in cooking before so I had looked up dishes to cook using savory.
