@Sheannutt It's beautiful, weekdays from sept-may are best since so many people have kids. It's close enough to the major population centers in CA that weekends anytime of the year are bad. We camped away from the main valley so it wasn't too bad, but the valley floor was wall to wall tents in the camping area. My son took all the pictures we had of that trip when I was giving him his baby pictures. I'm going to use that as an excuse to go back and get more pics.

A good site for the beginner https://belize.com/ The people are some of the friendliest you'll ever want to meet, until you've had a fresh 2 pound avocado, you don't know what it really tastes like. The pineapple, bananas, mangoes are to die for. If he likes fruit, tell him to ask the locals which fruit stand they go to, the operators will tell you what is good today and what will be good tomorrow, you need to tell them when you are going to eat it and they will hook him up.

@Tenacious That's northern Belize almost to the Mexican border at Chetuma,MX. I haven't been there, but it is very near the coastal swamps, There are some things that he needs to be prepared for, they take US currency almost everywhere at $2 BZ for $1 US. US cell phone programs will barely work if you can get a signal from MX, BZ government controls the local phone and telecom services so internet is very restricted when and where you can get it. Almost everyone speaks English. You are only 15 degrees from the equator, sunscreen is a must, It is the mosquito season, figure out how much mosquito repellent you'll need, then double it. A US drivers license is good there. If you have other questions or I can offer you more insight PM me.
