@schway thankfully before any of the locations were made public, they were already in a federally protected spot. There was a demand that these trees be made available for high end furniture, but that was short stopped by congress.

@schway The other two are Great basin NP, NV and Windy Ridge near Alma Co. They are not as easy as the CA site, but just as spectacular. I don't remember whether we saw the foxtails on the CA trip, I was pretty winded and still using film back then.

It is normally loaded with blooms every spring, but very seldom fruit ever gets ripe due to the squirrels. I keep planning to take it outt, but I always go, one more spring to give it another chance.
