If I thought she might like something, I'd get it for her whether there was anything to celebrate or not. We never went out for Valentines Day or other holidays, instead we went when it was less crowded and we could enjoy ourselves without being rushed and crowded. My son follows in this tradition and celebrates parents day and takes both my ex and I out to dinner at the same time instead of trying to get a reservation on mother's day or father's day.
