It is easy to divide and create new plants, It will have nodules on the roots where it stores food for the dormant season. Dig a full clump, separate by gently pulling apart, trying to keep some nodules on each clump. I have separated a single large clump into as many as 20 smaller clumps. Best to do at the end of winter, since it sprouts in early spring and that single growth is all that it does all year. Very hardy and perinial, I have had it under my magnolia tree in full shade for 35 years. I have no idea of the mother plants age.

glennlab replies on Dec 24, 2020:
I belive they came out of the 60s as part of the renewed interest in social welfare. Prior to the new deal, there were no crop supports or crop insurance. The market stability of the 40s and 50s and the lack of WW II distruction in the US meant that US farmers were out producing the needs of the US. Agriculure represented the largest sector of the economy and to keep it running the USDA stepped in to act as a purchaser of last resort. When its warehouses were full and farmers were dumping 1000s of gallons of milk perday down the drain because it cost more to process it than the wholesale price. THe program first supplied institutions, but that barely dented the supplies, that is when they went whole hog and started shipping directly to communities that made the last mile deliveries. They either went to an existing local gov't facility or rented space with people picking up their allotment with a USDA coupon. short answer no.
Based on the responses I got, I should have posted this here.

@mistymoon77 I had one for years, back when mars was the closest to us in 80 years, they are not good for those of us that get impatient, a slight tap can move you so far off your target that you have to start all over. But the views when you get it right are spectacular.
Happy Saturday Everyone. What are you up to?

We did some cleaning and are heading out to get some ingredients for some baking and some seed for the birds. We have a nice selection this year. Cardinals, carolina wrens, chicadees, thrushes..
glennlab replies on Dec 20, 2020:
@BTHT Most of the ones i have bookmarked are decidedly Texas and gulf coast, I checked out the local botanical garden and the local butteyfly gardens, we even have a butterfly society on the state fair grounds. Local is almost always the best source.

glennlab replies on Dec 19, 2020:
@BTHT Depending on your area, it can be a wonderful undertaking, even swapping out plants to coincide with migrations. The best choices tend to be native plants that the birds and butterflies time their migration to. You'll probably want both host and nectar plants.

Which god?
glennlab replies on Dec 19, 2020:
@Ashwin Of course it matters, there are good gods, mean gods, evil gods, vengeful gods, men and women that claimed to be gods on earth and were worshiped as such. You have to dewfine your terms before we can tell how full of shit your idea is. The Hindus alone have 33 million gods, the western countries somewhere over 2000, you've got to be specific so we can know what powers you want to believe they have.

The cedar waxwings arrived today for their annual stripping of my chinese photinias. There were only about 20 out earlier, but I expect hundreds before they are finished.
Yeah I've been wondering about that

Who's bright idea was it to not tax churches (or religious institutions) in the first place?
glennlab replies on Dec 18, 2020:
@scurry They try to bring it up every couple of years, it will have to be included in a major tax reform bill that has lots of things that people are fighting over to allow it to sneak through

glennlab replies on Dec 18, 2020:
It was a compromise By then senator LBJ, If churches would stay out of politics they would enjoy preferencial tax treatment. It was a move to stall the civil rights movement by conservative, they wanted to just keep churches out of politics he wanted a way for the black churches to serve as community organizing points.

@Wisterious I was the shopper and cook in that relationship, shopping was never a problem. I have a tendency to buy gifts because I want people to have them rather than for specific dates. I was also the one that dropped hints as to when my birthday was.

@LucyLoohoo For six years I had to deal with classifying and declassifying material as well as the governing rules and regulations. Depending on the level of classification, there are varying levels of accountability for its storage and distruction. This includes working papers as well as finished documents. If you'd like more info let me know.
