We now understand that in exothermic reactions, minute immeasurable except with the most delicate of instruments., some matter is indeed transformed into energy and in nuclear reactions matter is definitely converted into energy. In the pre Vatican II, priests were not supposed to perform funerals for people that had committed suicide, lived in sin, or had been ex-communicated.
