Did you have an atheist epiphany?
indirect76 comments on Apr 30, 2019:
I remember when I was a kid and heard that there were different religion outside of Christianity. It was then that I figured that they were all probably not true. My family didn’t go to church or do any kind of religious stuff, so I would not describe the realization as an epiphany.

indirect76 comments on Apr 16, 2019:
Neat idea. Perhaps it’s a good basis for a good science fiction novel. Wow, there’s too many things to point out that I disagree with, but I will try to encapsulate them. It’s not known if existence started at the Big Bang. It may have or not, and it may be impossible to know one way or the other. The universe did not evolve the same way humans did. Using the same word here is a huge conflation of the term. I think your notion of evolution differs greatly from the generally accepted scientific one. It’s fine to have different ideas, but it’s confusing to use the word ‘evolution’ when talking about your ideas. Biological evolution does not have a direction. There is no expectation that any species would evolve past disease, or any kind of perfected being as you imply. The current scientific understanding is that it is impossible to travel anywhere in the universe in a nanosecond. Again, you’re welcome to different ideas on this, but it’s useless conjecture without evidence.
Are you happy?

Best magazine about Atheism
indirect76 comments on Apr 14, 2019:
Most magazines are athiest magazines. Just avoid the religious ones and you should be fine. If you’re looking for one specifically about atheism, then I’m sure one does not exist. It’s not an expansive subject. So I really don’t know how there would be enough to write about periodically.
I've recently given up my faith because of a few comments people gave made to me here.
indirect76 comments on Apr 14, 2019:
First, I would never conclude for sure there is no god. Try not to conclude much of anything to absolute certainty. Keeping an open mind is what got you here. Keep it open. Morality is something that can seem tricky but it is fairly simple and intuitive. You probably already have it figured out, but may not be able to articulate it. Just keep thinking about it and do some reading if that helps. I would definitely NOT base it on evolution. Biological evolution is an amoral process that can be downright cruel most of the time. Basing morality on this can give rise to the ‘Might Makes Right’ ideas that lead a certain 1940s European nation of good people to commit atrocities.

indirect76 comments on Apr 14, 2019:
There is a difference in opinion on when life begins and when it is considered murder to kill something. Even if two people agree on that point there is still the different opinion on the murder/non-murder weighed against a persons right to their bodies. No amount of debate will change most people’s mind either way. I also don’t think the way a person votes means forcing their beliefs on someone. If you do think so then that principle applies to all voters.

indirect76 comments on Apr 13, 2019:
I have some guns, but they stay at home unless I’m going out to shoot. I think open carry is obnoxious. I think concealed carry is the way to go if someone really feels the need to be armed out in public. Kentucky just passed a bill allowing anyone to conceal carry and I think that is bonkers. A $50 fee & six hour class is not asking a lot for a conceal carry license.
