I think there may well have been a 'Jesus' person or persons around the time of the Roman occupation of Judea but.............everything is debatable, open to question and scrutiny etc etc. And it's a quantum leap to to join the dots between this person's possible existence, being the son of Zeus (or whatever) and somehow being involved in the creation.

Moving is a pain in the ass. Due to circumstances beyond my control I did have a period where I moved 6 times in 10 years. You really do get minimalist but very good at the logistics. It is a skill I could have cheerfully have not learned :-)

Most theists don't think about the why, so most are honest as far as it goes but as the belief is an unchallenged veneer then the honesty is just as deep/shallow. The ideas of sheep (i.e. flock) is probably the most accurate part of the bible

I was at a similar age to you, it just didn't make sense and couldn't stand up to the merest scrutiny of a child. The idea that not going to church was a mortal sin the same as murder just struck me as unfair and utter nonsense. It all festered from there.

I think a lot of believers have a misconception about non belief because they don't take the trouble to find out about it. I think there is a fear that they could challenge their own comfort zone. God is a safety net to them, they don't have to think for themselves, they let someone else do it. It is unenlightened and lazy, IMO :-)

I was going to chip in here but the more I thought about what I was going to say I realised that most of us, including me, would lose the will to live before I'd got through it all. Suffice to say it is not as straight forward as a lot of people seem to think.

I'm a bookseller, so this is probably the best way for me to get involved in the community.

It's probably the same thing but I refer to this purpose as my 'mojo' It comes and goes depending on any given situation. My mojo also applies to a variety of things. I lost a lot of weight but lost my getting healthy mojo so put a lot back on, I found my decorating mojo recently and so the bathroom got done, I've got a gardening and car maintenance mojo going at the moment. I guess my mojo is where my purpose lies :-)

I got my BA (Hons) In archaeology while doing a fulltime job, dealing with a then pregnant girlfriend who was also studying at the same time as me at the same college doing the same degree......and dealing with two elderly parents who's health was declining. Studying kept me sane to be honest :-)

Many years ago, 30 to be precise, I had a little fling with someone who was absolutely gorgeous. For a variety of reasons things didn't work out but the relationship evolved and we went in different directions but stayed in touch and stayed friends, after a couple of years of realigning things. She and her third husband were witnesses to my own marriage and she is supporting adult to my youngest daughter. So I would have to say yes :-)

In the right area dinosaur fossils are available in abundance, I live in the UK on the eastern end of what is known as the Jurassic coast, and you can find them on the beach. On the south of the Isle of Wight when the tide goes out what your standing on is Jurassic and there's a fabulous iguanadon footprint fossil clearly visible (see pic of my daughter standing on this fossil) . But there needs to be a balance between stuff being available, being in museums for all to see and stuff being in private collections that you never see but that to is preserved. Generally speaking it's a healthy ongoing conversation :-)

I'm from the UK so don't know if my take is any different. I don't care about the national anthem one way or the other really. If I'm at an event and the crowd stands then so do I. If I hear it when I'm alone I don't. I'm British, not sure what that means in terms of the sort of person I am, nothing I should think, there are parts of our colonial past that are appalling and their are current policies in the UK that are dreadful, especially to those less able, but I also have a pride in British accomplishments and that wouldn't change whether I stand for God Save The Queen or not.

Adding to the comments by @DharmaEngineer and @beansontoast you helped prevent what could have lead to a meltdown for J, you stepped in and took the uncertainty away, His focus was firstly the car, then work, you dealt with both. Yes he may have had a wobble at the time and during the day but you took the edge off what could have been very difficult for him.
