Robots need civil rights, too - The Boston Globe

Robot's rights. At the moment no, but if AI developed to the point where a cybernetic organism becomes sensient and self aware, then who knows.....does it not become a race of people? It's a fat onion :-)

ipdg77 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
I'm not sure there's an agreed reason for white but I think it's just to denote purity of thought, spirit etc. Needless to say I think it denotes purity of absolute bollocks but then that's me :-)
Who could have known that a song entitled Hallelujah is not about religion?[youtu.be]
ipdg77 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
It's a great song and Shrek should probably get some credit for breathing new life into it and exposing it to a new audience. I like the Pentatonix version as well. :-)

ipdg77 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Fairly normal day, moved loads of compost with guys on a gardening project, managed to do piss all in the office (good job my boss isn't on here) wasted my time phoning the DWP (What's new) got my new internet provider/connection sorted (half the price of the old one - yay) had the sound down on England's 1-1 with Italy............normal sort of day :-)
Too honest.
ipdg77 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
I think it's better to be honest and get a 'hell no' than to pretend to be something you're not. One of the many problems with conventional dating dates is that you never know if someone is who and what they say they are, Agnostic.com seems to have reduced that

ipdg77 comments on Mar 25, 2018:

It's Sunday. We're not in church. What did you get to do today?

Could you consider someone a real friend, if you've never met them in person?
ipdg77 comments on Mar 25, 2018:
I don't know, i suppose it's an individual thing based on definitions i.e. the difference between best friend(s), friends and mates. I'm making friends on here but it's different to lifelong friends with whom I have a shared history. Perhaps that definition is also unfair until I have an online friend of 50+ years with which to make a fair comparison.
What do you say?
ipdg77 comments on Mar 25, 2018:
I do say 'Bless' to my daughter but, and this is going to lose a bit in translation, it's an elongated 'Bleeeeeees' which is done more as a cutesy piss take, not to my daughter I hasten to add and it's also just habit :-)

Living as I do in the UK, I don't tend to be surrounded by obsessive Christian types.
ipdg77 comments on Mar 25, 2018:
I'm also in the UK and agree totally with your comments about religion in this country. I have children myself, started late in fact I was 43 when my first arrived, but think it's a shame that your perfectly reasonable decison not to have children can't be accepted and respected. I know of some women who haven't had children and unless I know them very well I wouldn't ask why, as it may be a medical reason and therefore distressing to them. But haven't honestly met, chatted with or known of a guy who's made your decision but I guess the same criteria would apply, I wouldn't ask through fear of giving distress. I would have though the vast majority of people on here would accept your views without batting an eyelid. :-)
Why are we hated for hating xmas?
ipdg77 comments on Mar 25, 2018:
I 'celebrate' Xmas and Easter largely because of having young children, I don't promote the whole Jesus/Bethleham rubbish but do it because it is customary to do so and I don't want my kids to feel isolated and different. It is also a good time to catch with my family, work is closed at this time so it works well, and I like Xmas dinner but there is no religious component. Similarly with Easter, it is to do with chocolate not with rising from the dead....as if! But I share your frustrations re if your reasons were religious ones nobody would really care but because they're the exact opposite it's like throwing petrol on a fire. The public need educating and we're probably a more vocal and persistent group than any previous generation, we also have the ability to get the message (for want of a better phrase) out through social media. We just have to balance our own non belief with religious based customs that our various societies may have without doing 'god' Btw, enjoy the chocolate, I know i shall :-)

ipdg77 comments on Mar 25, 2018:

ipdg77 comments on Mar 24, 2018:
Autism, which ever bit, can manifest itself just the way you have described. There's always the difficulty of separating the condition from a personality but............ Not showing emotion, i.e. gratitude is just an inability to understand social niceties, autistic people just don't get it, it's not personal it just doesn't register and it can be frustrating to be on the end of it. Obsessive behaviours can also occur. They can hear something and just take it to the nth degree, like with the broccoli. The best bit of advice i heard in relation to communicating with someone with autism is to engage the passion. try talking with him about what he likes to do and feed other bits in slowly. Too much info will lead to an overload. Check out a guy called Wenn Lawson, he's an autistic guy with an amazing history who is really inciteful in how to approach and deal with and help and support someone with autism. The other thing you do need in abundance in patience. And like I said earlier don't take apparent rebuffs personally, he may really like the help you have given him but doesn't know how to express it. Good luck and keep asking, I'll always try and help

Do you think Korea is that crazy?
ipdg77 comments on Mar 24, 2018:
Kim Jong Un is as mad as a March hare. Everybody else there is scared shitless. There's a lot of propoganda in play especially in the western media but does he have a full blown nuclear weapon, I doubt it, he/they may have developed a dirty bomb but that's about it, although that would be messy enough. The other issue is whether they can target accurately, they may have a missle that can go umpteen thousand miles but I'm not convinced they know or can control where it would land. I think he's more maniac than misunderstood but I don't lose any sleep over him.

How do you make friends? Do you randomly talk to anyone, or are you selective?
ipdg77 comments on Mar 24, 2018:
It varies but I usually make a light hearted comment to do with a common interest maybe the weather, the traffic etc. Could be thru work so there's a bit of common ground. Doesn't take many seconds to see if there's any friendly rapport to be had and then take it from there. Online friends here are pretty easy, we all have a common element going in and that really seems to help get things underway.

ipdg77 comments on Mar 24, 2018:
There's only one person that I occassionally have a chat with about faith. We got as far as her saying that god doesn't interfere, to which I said then doesn't that make him irrelevant? To which I got no answer!
I'm not certain this is the right category, but here's the random thought that occurred to me this ...

ipdg77 comments on Mar 24, 2018:
I have been separated from my wife for, hang on I'll do the maths, 5 years 7 months. It was about her verbal and physical abuse of me (one example was punching me in the face while I was driving) compounded by lies after we separated and trying to use the children against me while perching her arse on an imaginary moral high ground. It has not been resolved and it will not be resolved until she can first admit that she is, and needs help for being, the perpetrator of domestic violence. So a resolution is unlikely as for her to admit what she did, she would also have to admit to a great many people that she is a liar. Not very likely. So the relationship couldn't have got any worse but my sanity and self respect is recovering but there was and is some lasting damage.

Best Dating Site?
ipdg77 comments on Mar 24, 2018:
From my experience, and this is possibly down to me not looking or sounding anything marvelous and/or just being unlucky with who I contacted, POF was a waste of time, hardly anybody even bothered replying, Harmony provided absolutely nothing even after the BS of a super duper detailed profile to increase your chances yadda yadda yadda and the only one that yielded anything was Match.com, I went out with someone for 6 months which all very pleasant. Not sure I'd bother again, especially if there's a cost involved.

Socializing on a budget...
ipdg77 comments on Mar 24, 2018:
It's tough, I'm employed and still have to watch the pennies. I don't have much of a social life either but I work some evenings and have my daughter other times and like my own company when on my own so not quite in the same boat, but maybe volunteering at a lunch club or coffee morning? It would get you out, it would make so much difference to the people that are there, you could do some networking yourself which could lead to toher groups or even employment and maybe there's a cup of coffee in it for you. I'm trying not to be patronising, and apologies if this sounds like it, and I don't know where you are but in the UK there are a lot of these kinds of social places where people on a budget do gravitate to, and they'd love to have someone like yourself go along. You made it here and did this post so you're obviously a thoughtful, intelligent person who's open to ideas and input. good luck :-)
I'm usually happy, but have encountered a nemesis and need some ideas.

Does online dating actually result in long term happy relationships?
ipdg77 comments on Mar 23, 2018:
I've been on a few dating sites and they were all a waste of time, nobody appeared that serious about even having a conversation. Most of the women had a list of prerequisites that were so long I'd lost the will to live before I got to the end, the one that pisses me off the most is that I'm not tall enough!!! Tall enough to what, play basketball #FFS All that being said i did have one relationship that lasted 6 months and it was delightful but there were other factors that got in the way so all I would say is don't take it too seriously, be very careful when meeting up, applies more to the girls than the boys, and stay on here, at least we talk to each other :-)
What about sexual fantasy in your love life?
ipdg77 comments on Mar 23, 2018:

I guess if the right person just hove into view it would all fit with no sacrifice but I'm realistic enough to know that ain't gonna happen but I like my own company and always have.
