Simplicity and humour - I really like people who I can laugh with and who have a wicked sense of humour .These days I want friendship and I have it but find it amazing that if I am being intimate and laughing with someone - other people appear and try to get us on a downer by telling a story that is doom laden and they have this 'voice' that carries you to desperation. so I like to only be talking to one person at a time and having a good laugh or cry or whatever but i hate others coming in and manipulating the atmosphere for what they want - I think if a couple of people are laughing let them be! my freind is over 80 and i am 70 at our age I think we know what we want.

I was thinking this myself because I grew up in the smallest London borough in 1948- post war we were decimated but all the survivors were amazing =so glad to be alive so happy to be able to buy 'things' and we all seemed to know each other and people were cheerful and very happy with the Irish and Hispanic people who came to live with us and delighted with the huguenot silk weavers in the East end - I dont remember people being unhappy at all - People were kind and helpful because we were not overcrowded. if children were out late men would stand under the street lamps to make sure we got home safely without being intimidated . we biked, roller skated,and played on the bomb sitesas well as playing in the road as there were very few cars and the ones that came were always very slow - It seems that everyhting has speeded up since then - and thats just my lifetime .

Have you heard of the Woodcraft Folk ? No uniform preferred colour of dress or trousers (of any kind) green for both boys and girls, mixed group - go camping do all the fun stuff - One time the people running the campsite got dates all wrong and our children were also in the same field as very young army cadets who were being shouted at; so our kids went to invite them to our fire and some came over and had all the traditional campfire stuff songs and hot marshmallows etc. It ended up quite well but we never really got on with the army staff. A friend of mine called us the marxist alternative to guides and scouts. The kids were great being out bivouacing and canoeing (usually difficult to arrange in Merseyside)

I had a weird childhood too, abusive parents with mental health problems that the wider family wouldn't help with so I was pretty much on my own growing myself up .I read at an early age and lived in books - I fantasised a great deal and basically lied without knowing that it wasnt a great strategy , then I decided to never lie and got into quite a lot of trouble with that one as well.I like the idea of lying if I really need to to get myself out of bother but most especially if someone else is being arsey. I am not great at communicating with more than one person at a time so sometimes I just run away - It makes people wary of me and that helps me too - they should be wary. I have d.I.D and if triggered communications can get very silly.

I call myself atheist, only if asked ,mainly because it shuts people up - they usually say something like "oh thats sad!" and I usually shrug and leave. I dont proseletyse in any way to other people and never ask them their religion mostly because it isnt interesting to me but also because I find it tedious to talk about something that has no impact on my life. I dont go in for thinking about terms just whatever it takes to get people to realise I am godless & to stop harrassing me.

I have been to a fair few humanist funerals and they have all been great and done the job of getting the grieving part over for those of us still alive -they have been empathic and kind and the do- it -yourself togetherness aspect of it is very heartening and heart warming there has been quite a revolution in taking control of your own funeral wishes these days and I really welcome it as everyone present is included - as a human. I want a sunny sort of climate and I would like all the underdogs, all the people who feel that they don't acheive enough and are sad /depressed-to come I would make a fertile world for them where food was plentiful on trees and bushes there would be no need for killing for meat because the animal and marine life would be so unpalatable though there would be plants that would taste like anything you craved,they wouldnt be immortal and they would be free to feel safe because there wouldnt be any creatures that could kill- I imagine it might become boring for some who would like a bit more adventure so they could if they wished be put into phase 2 in teh end I would like them to be able to create theri own individual universes in the way they wanted to but if they ever became like this earth I'd probably wipe them out.

My grandfather was a technician at the Greenwich Research Laboratory he invented the first gas poker, and made a pair of handcuffs that Houdini at the beginning of his career couldn't get out of & he never told anyone but my grandmother. He was also the technician at the first splitting of the atom and was patted on the back for it whilst all the Toffs threw their top hats in the air. He never made any money out of these ventures at all but got some sort of certificate from King George which was always on the mantelpiece.

I had to give up my therapist because she had talked so much that she was whispering to me as her voice was in danger ;unfortunately I have hyperacusis and my hearing doesn't kick in at low levels. I am a qualified T.A therapist and Person centred Counsellor and Creative Expressive Therapist so I think its probably time to embark on that "Healer heal yourself" trip.

Faith is usually conceived of as religious faith but I could have faith in my own ability to sew my daughter a dress, knit my son a pullover - or faith in a hammock that it will stay up because I tied good knots. I havent ever had a god and cant really conceive of having a faith in something that isnt demonstrably strong, something I cant see or test.

Not really, I think it would be a hard task to find a dream that I wanted that much - I enjoy my life very much -I am still active and try to be helpful I have good friends and it all seems enough - Also I have done my travelling and learning and am less inclined to repeat those journeys. At the end of a day maybe gardening or walking I feel tired and content at having done something but also content about the weather I am in - Not often unhappy, but very often fear stricken in a way that doesnt last very long I don't have long term goals and just find my feet walking me to the beach or to the shops

I haven't ever known anyone who has actually committed suicide but I doubt very much that god would be part of the decision; in my readings of the accounts of people who succeed ,they are going to do it do it no matter what & rarely talk about it first. Para-suicide is a different kettle of fish. I have known of two people very vaguely connected to me who went to hotel rooms to blow their brains out - we had guns here in the U.K in the forties , left over from men who came back from the war.

I'd like a new way of being that wasn't an 'ism' , some way of being that values people for who they are as well as what they do -equality would help - if no one had any more or less than anyone else and we practised caring a bit better we would still be individualists but maybe able to be a bit more caring if we were not fighting for our own place in the sun and making sure 'our' children -got more benefits out of the society.

At 70 years old and a life childhood abuse and neglect I am feeling okayish I have a dx of 'dissociative identity disorder' and that doesnt kick in as much as before except if there are specific triggers. I think I kept myself okay by constantly moving something I havent done now for about twenty years- I have a partner with O.C.D and that helps also I am busy all the time till I drop in the armchair at night to watch some T.V - with partner - managing is everything - Both of us pretty much manage every minute of our life but its really good now.

New Job: Last week I had to endure a lecture from a colleague about religion.

Really Sorry to hear that - Not me that I know about yet; but I have known quite a few people who had it -My friends father got in from making inlaid marquetry on cabinets from wood dust. I was in a building co-operative found out that fiberglassing roof spaces is dangerous too for the lungs. I was a plasterer in the 70's and 80's and exposed to all sorts of additives, so, waiting for something to catch up with me. I have a prettty constant graveyard cough.

I think a friendship could survive but I doubt anything more than that could. I am a life long atheist and can have friendships with others of any creed (so long as we have a non proseletysing pact, and have good humour. When I was a tutor on a counselling course we had quite a few religious people most were really good fun - others were unreachable and never finished the course.So I suppose it depends upon the people and their disposition.

I have a problem with this one because we are not all equally endowed with the same values nor do we all have the same take on morality or the same education in morality - I was born into a family of rogues who actually didn't accept me as one of their own (because I wasnt born a cockney) So I grew up with a different morality - There are so many variables for this one that I wouldn't know where to start formulating any proposition.

I have found in my life experience that nothing works except me getting off and living my own life in my own way and being happy with what I have-I would never argue with anyone about any kind of religion - waste of time - I dont have a need ot convert anyone or save them or whatever - they lead their life I lead mine - If by chance there is a meeting of minds that is beautiful if not it cannot be helped.

A thousand million welcomes - yes - I go to that place from time to time - at the moment someone where i live in sheltered accommodation is libelling me to all and sundry and making me out to be the wicked witch of the west when it was him that attacked me physically and the police game him an order not me - I understand that he has mental health problems and so do I and nothing is being done about it at all which is a recipe for unease on both our parts. Life gets sticky and indigestible a lot of the time I just try to roll wth the punches and stay upright ,and yes I do understand the too muchness!

I have had a pretty hard life, all told, and think I have some sort of immunity these days. Not much bothers me any more; maybe its just being old that helps. You deal with that stuff because you have to if you torture yourself in advance of the grieving process , you're giving yourself an even harder time - Relax take life easy cry when you want to kick doors when you need to and seriously don't let your thoughts keep going to the place of hurt - Many of u have been here and it is possible to get through it - If neccesary get some counselling. Good luck!

I had an old book as a child by sir Sidney Smith called Mostly Murder about the start of Pathology - It was pretty gruesome reading but tantalisingly short stories I read it many times. My father had a first edition of Alice in Wonderland that he carried into war it was all age spotted when he came back and sellotaped together - he must have read it over and over - I loved it!

not really, facebook is much more flippant in a way there isn't a great deal of room ot put your thoughts down and there is no real community spirit - you don't get to like people from their writings as it all very fast and immediate and then gone

I dont think there is anything that could hurt I was assaulted by someone who lives in the sheltered acceommodation I live in he got a police order against his name and although he accepted it at the time 5 witnesses who were terrified to come out of their flats, he is now tryign to clear his name and is writing A4 papers about how i assaulted him & posting them up everywhere - What else have I to fear? the worst is over!

attempted several times always got found and taken to hospital to be pumped out and then for a stay in an asylum - people often say its a cry for help but for me I know its because I want out of here =strangely since my forties (now 70) I have not had an attempt but I still don't want to hang around as a useless old woman.

I don't really feel that I am part of any movement, I am just myself along with friends and people who are not concerned with gods. I don't know where the 'movement' is moving and I don't want to be part of a club or even outside a club that doesn't want me as I am. I have been godless all my life -no big deal in fact no deal at all - so its a non starter for me to imagine being in a group that fights when I can live quite peacefully with anyone who needs a god.

Awwww! I am so sorry to hear this - especially as a Londoner (gone up North). Try Greenwich Park and museum its very good views down to the River. The painted Hall is good too though Greenwich mean time clock biggest dissapointment ever!
