I'm a former conservative catholic who slowly de-programmed from that belief system over the last 8 years or so. Life events combined with my education while I was getting my mechanical engineering degree put me in a position to be able to get past my confirmation bias and begin questioning.
It's been a liberating but rocky ride. I'm not % open with my family about my non belief. I'm a recovering alcoholic/addict who began recovery as a conservative believer, so adapting my recovery program to my new beliefs has had its challenges. I'm married to someone who still loosely believes in the Christian god and we have two children. I've also begun questioning my sexuality and experimenting with things I would have believed I'd go to hell for not all that long ago, and its made things challenging in my marriage. Outside of work, I don't have many people with common interests to hang out with. I could use some friendship, but I'm also a bit of an introvert.
As my username implies, I'm a bit of a nerd. I am a mechanical engineer by day, doing machine design. I like a lot of sci fi and I'm big into console gaming. I like RPGs and FPS the most but I'll just about anything. Politically I'm pretty center left and especially ashamed of my country at the moment. I also like outdoor stuff and I like snowboarding, kayaking, hiking and others.
