Why are there so many people who are lonely?
JeffMesser comments on Jul 25, 2018:
because people are too busy being something they're not instead of being themselves. when they finally figure that out they're in their 50's or more and desperately trying to claw for a few years of much deserved fun.

Excellent question. This is a byproduct of capitalist individualism and the alienation in capitalist society. In a more communal society, there would be less lonely and thus happier people. Consumerism separates us. Virtual friends are not a substitute...

Until you truly connect you will always be lonely. And the most important of all connections means being and knowing yourself so you can be YOU fully with others. Akfishlady comments on Jul 25, 2018:
I think we are afraid of being vulnerable and letting people see the real us. We are all damaged, fear that anyone who is close to us will potentially hurt us. We stay guarded and closed off. We don't like our neighbors, or families, or the public in general. Hell, most of us barely like ourselves....

I've concluded that many are simply romantically lazy. Much easier to just moan about it. We want relationships, but that would require getting up and doing something about it. And who wants to do that kind of work. Crucial thing? Respect for one another.

nicknotes replies on Jul 8, 2018:
Of course the gospels were written anonymously. The Roman Catholic Church named the gospels. From the Catholic Encyclopedia The first four historical books of the New Testament are supplied with titles (Euangelion kata Matthaion, Euangelion kata Markon, etc.), which, however ancient, do not go back to the respective authors of those sacred writings. The Canon of Muratori, Clement of Alexandria, and St. Irenæus bear distinct witness to the existence of those headings in the latter part of the second century of our era. Indeed, the manner in which Clement (Stromata I.21), and St. Irenæus (Against Heresies III.11.7) employ them implies that, at that early date, our present titles to the Gospels had been in current use for some considerable time. Hence, it may be inferred that they were prefixed to the evangelical narratives as early as the first part of that same century. That, however, they do not go back to the first century of the Christian era, or at least that they are not original, is a position generally held at the present day. It is felt that since they are similar for the four Gospels, although the same Gospels were composed at some interval from each other, those titles were not framed, and consequently not prefixed to each individual narrative, before the collection of the four Gospels was actually made. Besides, as well pointed out by Prof. Bacon, "the historical books of the New Testament differ from its apocalyptic and epistolary literature, as those of the Old Testament differ from its prophecy, in being invariably anonymous, and for the same reason. Prophecies whether in the earlier or in the later sense, and letters, to have authority, must be referable to some individual; the greater his name, the better. But history was regarded as a common possession. Its facts spoke for themselves. Only as the springs of common recollection began to dwindle, and marked differences to appear between the well-informed and accurate Gospels and the untrustworthy . . . did it become worth while for the Christian teacher or apologist to specify whether the given representation of the current tradition was 'according to' this or that special compiler, and to state his qualifications". It thus appears that the present titles of the Gospels are not traceable to the Evangelists themselves. @starwatcher-al

What Is one thing I can do to improve or to make my profile more appealing to women? : ) thanks!
nicknotes comments on Jul 6, 2018:
Way too long....too much irrelevant stuff. Short and sweet is much preferred. The first relevant fact a woman reads is that you earn $13,000 per year. That's $250 per week. Women crave security...$250 per week doesn't pay for much. IMO many women quit reading here. Forget the income ...

I understand completely. I think it is smart to find a partner who can contribute ....not someone you will have to support. If you have children you probably have to help them out at times...no need for another mouth to feed. @BlueWave

I disagree...if we colonize Mars the same skills used on earth will be needed on Mars. @OlderMusicGeek

Yes. In a heartbeat. I wouldn't even think twice; I'd be on the ship before they even finished building it. Why? Because that's the ultimate adventure!

A while back I saw a list that compiled all the dates that Christians have set for Jesus to return and the world to end. It's amazing how many times their calculations have been wrong. Of course, they don't get it...Jesus is dead and he's never coming back.
nicknotes replies on Jul 2, 2018:
This time I'm saving the list on my hard drive. Thanks @snytiger6
I am watching my neighbor's two cats while they are away for the week.

You must be a saint to take on this responsibility. My neighbor took in another neighbor's dog while they were on vacation ...the dog got loose and was hit by a car.

Yes ..it was a tragedy...the dog was like their child. @SukiSue
How can you support your morality without any God?
nicknotes comments on Jun 30, 2018:
I always hear Christians speak about morality and hold the Bible up as the standard for morality. But is the Bible the standard of morality in our modern culture here in the USA? I say NO...the Bible is not our standard of morality. The God of the Bible endorsed slavery....we do not practice ...
