I grew up in a large Polish American Catholic family. I had a “born again” experience in college that led me into very conservative, patriarchal, cultish forms of christianity—family integrated church, quiverful, homeschooling, purity culture—the whole nine yards.

I reached my tipping point about 8 years ago and gradually came to atheism reading atheist blogs women who came out of a similar background as mine. I’ve lived in various parts of the country, following my ex-husband’s career. I gave up my own engineering career because I was convinced that women shouldn’t work outside the home because jeebus.

My divorce 3 years ago was precipitated in large part my new-found atheism. I spend a lot of my time listening to atheist speeches and debates on YouTube and just generally trying to heal and figure out what my new normal is at this point in my journey.

I’m thankful that despite a whacky religious homeschooling upbringing, my has become a wonderful human being and a productive member of society. She never totally bought into all the garbage that I tried to teach her, and she arrived at a very healthy atheism shortly after I did. I’m happy to say that she earned a Master’s degree in public health and now impacts the world for good.

I'm on agnostic.com to be able to interact online with like-minded people. In some ways, this website feels more comfortable to me than Facebook. If I were to meet a kind atheist gentleman close to my age in my area here on agnostic.com, I would be open to developing a relationship based on friendship first. At this point in my life, I want someone with whom I can have deep, intelligent conversation, who has similar values, a few overlapping interests and a few different ones, curiosity about people, life, and the world, and who loves to laugh and have fun. I've spent far too much of my life trapped in joyless religious devotion. My sense of humor is becoming well-developed, and I want to spend time with someone else who also has a great sense of humor. I'm not willing to just "settle"--if I never come across anyone like what I desire, I'm perfectly content to live out my life with me, myself, and I. I make pretty good company, I think.

I love summer up north and winter down south, live music, good art, festivals, '60s and '70s folk rock, white wine, Pepsi Zero, good healthy (-ish) food, camping, nature, backyard bonfires, going for walks, playing cards, Scrabble, practicar español, learning new things about myself, other people, life, and the world around me, and hanging out with other atheists.

I feel like I need to add a disclaimer--I listed on my profile that I enjoy sex to differentiate myself from the many women my age who are not at all interested in sex anymore. Men, please don't take this as an invitation to message me, soliciting sex.
