This takes me back, HC! I managed a group of women for awhile and one of them used to come to work with suspicious bruises, a black eye, etc. Because I knew her fairly well, I was able to initiate a discussion and get her some help but she was really afraid to trust me. (This was in the days when ''nice women weren't abused.") Interestingly, he'd had a vasectomy but she became pregnant. Short story? The vasectectomy wasn't done properly and he was fertile. BUT...it took a lot of work to convince him. Happy to say she got away...finally. It's a very difficult situation for a manager....wanting to help but being afraid to make things worse!
