On a first date: Should you be honest on a first date or pretend you are what you think the other...
phxbillcee comments on Jan 31, 2018:
I think you should be honest, but you don't have to trot out your whole history right away (unless directly asked, then don't lie). Many of your questions will be answered, even if not in detail as the date progresses, so no need to push right away. Just be honest & be yourself.
phxbillcee replies on Feb 1, 2018:
No, be honest, but you don't have to give a full autobiography & treatise on every subject on the first date. The point of a date, especially a first date, is to have fun, not spout soliloquies.

I think "A Wrinkle In Time" was one of the earliest & it had a profound mental & emotional effect on me. I can still feel the echoes of what I felt back then. I believe, in a subconscious sense, that it somewhat shaped my outlook on good vs evil, & standing up for what was right, no matter how frightened. About loyalty & love & sorrow. Dang, it STILL gets me. Later books were much more "thoughts", & I value that, but L'Engle actually shaped me in ways that still resonate.
The biggest cover-up in human history (literally) Books of Revelation
Dwight comments on Jan 25, 2018:
Actually, Revelations as it turns out was a first century rant by an irate citizen predicting the fall of the empire. See Pagel, et. al. It does not predict the end times and never was intended to.

phxbillcee replies on Jan 28, 2018:
Yep, the biggest thing, in my mind, that came out of this incident was the lack of communication or at least the lack of understanding. I think both parties have a responsibility in any relationship/dialogue/interaction. Women need to speak out clearly & men need to listen. Now, most men are hoping to "get lucky" so they will, even subconsciously, ignore subtle cues that point to "No". This is not an excuse, just what men are hard-wired for. We can overcome this. But, & this has been "generalized" in many a comedic bit, women often expect men to pick up on things that are really often just not "seen" by them. The old, "If you don't know why I'm upset, then that is the problem." type of thing. Ladies, consider us thick! Most decent men will not only stop if actually told to, but will be apologetic to the rafters. We have mothers & sisters & friends, we have been taught to be respectful & wish to be. But we want to get laid, too! If that is not where you want the relationship to go, Tell US! But, please, do not lead us on just for free drinks or a meal, that cheapens you & angers & confuses us. I am not, by any stretch, saying all or most women do this, but men are fragile, emotionally, & we are constantly on the edge thinking "are we REALLY liked?" most of the time, especially early in a relationship. I'm cool as hell, & still pretty durn cute, & I am not a newbie to relationships, but even I tend to be somewhat tentative at first...no one likes to be hurt or humiliated.

I surely agree with the last part of your statement, & the first is relatively harmless in most cases. Sure, anything may be possible, but what is probable? When I first started away from organized religion I hoped for a type of "Nirvana", I guess, that after one died you joined with a "Cosmic Mind" & learned/knew everything. Of course, this was the late '60's & early '70's, so other factors came into play, also! Nowadays I tend to lean towards the proposition that death is just...death. I think when one's brain dies, so does any possible consciousness. There MAY be more to it than that, but I'll be living with that outlook until further information comes by.

phxbillcee replies on Jan 27, 2018:
Well, I'm not a liberal, I'm a Progressive. But I'd like you to go ahead & state these contradictions & blunders. Also, I consider myself an agnostic atheist & have no idea what you mean in that last paragraph. Christianity was founded on the god of Abraham, I don't "support" either religion as I find both of them & their cousin, Islam, to be just as flawed, as I do any other religion that I'm aware of, either extant now or in the past. & why would I like Trump for disliking Jewish people? I dislike the religion, not the people. & tho I am not a fan of many of Israel's policies, I never offered this video as a statement of my beliefs, necessarily, but for a conversation starter. If you would like to bring up specific points, then I can tell you what my stance is. I didn't "make" this video, I uploaded it to this site from YouTube, as I do many other videos. CharlesAhrens comments on Jan 23, 2018:
Unfortunately not 1 person read the question :-( "What would overcome your objection?"
phxbillcee replies on Jan 26, 2018:
@CharlesAhrens It's just the difference between belief & knowledge. The 2 can be linked, & are quite often. But the fundamental difference in the 2 come out in very stark terms when speaking about "religion". Many "believe" (theists) with absolutely no knowledge to back up that faith & often evidence that disproves many of the tenets of that faith (Gnosticism). That's how I understand the terms, & how I believe they are used today. Maybe someone out there has a reference to a better explanation. I recall some good videos, & books, but will have to try & dig them up for you.

ErichZannIII comments on Jan 26, 2018:
Personally, I don't see the point of such aggression. Let people who believe keep believing. They're not hurting me as long as I don't let them. They can preach as aggressively as they like. They're not going to change my mind, and I know I won't change theirs.
phxbillcee replies on Jan 26, 2018:
I don't see the "aggression" you mention, as such. & the problem, as even NdT puts it, who is much "milder", is that these "believers" too often force their ideas & beliefs on the rest of the country & schools. I won't stand idly by while that happens. To paraphrase...the way to let evil grow is for good people to stand by & do nothing!
