For instance? Bernie Sanders? Look at how the GOP demonized the Socialist label. I saw a lot of interviews where Republicans didn't know anything, except that they hated socialism and that would quickly lead to communism. Completely idiotic, but that's how they are. And the Socialist label is apparently another racist dog-whistle in that republicans have been brainwashed to believe that socialism is all about giving money away to non-whites.
We have some reason to celebrate.

So? Biden accomplishes his agenda, builds bridges, wins some friends in the GOP and wins a second term. At the end of that term....(here's my fantasy) Kamala Harris becomes the first female president!
racocn8 replies on Nov 14, 2020:
That would be totally wonderful if it could happen. I am simply not sanguine about Joe getting to and through another election cycle. Also, Kamala does not have much more appeal than Hillary, or rather, she has many of the same deficits, being undisciplined and in love with her own voice. Also, she is overly selective in supporting progressive issues and basically shy about taking on white collar criminals and corruption (based on her CA record).
We have some reason to celebrate.

When a foreign hostile adversary overthrows the established government by an illegal coup, isn't the coup at least equivalent to a declared war? (If the US engaged in such tactics on a foreign country, they would rightly see that interference as an act of war, declared or otherwise. If a citizen of that country helped the US overthrow it, that citizen should still be regarded as a traitor to that country and guilty of treason.) I can go with espionage if it gets the job done.

racocn8 replies on Oct 11, 2020:
How can you prove anything? Given the vaporous nature of information, one necessarily seeks to connect the dots. The Mueller Report certainly documents major illegal activity within the Trump campaign and some of that has been prosecuted. The second (or third) in command of the Trump regime is still in command at the WH. The books on Trump are helpful. The sequence of actions involving Comey are a matter of record. John Durham's activity remains somewhat secretive, but most bets are that it was intended to reflect the GRU narrative fed to Sen. Johnson on behalf of Giuliani/Trump/Putin. That Durham would have anything to do with this material or otherwise follow Barr's unmistakably political motivation should be unfortunate. The FBI is supposed to be non-partisan, and this investigation appears to be a straight-up illegal deviation from that dictum. As the Trump Administration is a foreign subversion and criminal money-making scheme, RICO applies and Barr and Durham are part of it.

@Jolanta You asked why it was reasonable to believe in the FBI. That question requires a two- or more sided answer. The FBI are a form of law enforcement, and subject to corruption, incompetence and illegal and even immoral behavior. On the good side, note the arrest of the militia members seeking to harm Governor Whitmer. On the bad side, it is certain that FBI agents violate the rights of citizens (by abuse or torture as you note) to further their investigation. John Durham's investigation appears to be politically motivated and is thus immoral, corrupt and possibly seditious. Similarly, Mueller's investigation refused to investigate Trump's financial status, and shelving the counterintelligence investigation. Here we're looking at incompetence as well as corruption and treason. Comey's publicizing the reopening of Clinton's email investigation was incompetent at least, and certainly political and immoral. Comey's silence on Trump's links to Russia ahead of the election was again, incompetent, political, immoral and seditious. It was seditious in that by depriving the electorate of an understanding of Trump's collusion with the Russians and his status as a foreign agent, he subverted the election and democracy. The FBI is part of the Deep State and I contend some or all of these anti-democratic FBI actions or inactions were coordinated by still deeper players, probably within the CIA secret government that works more directly with the real power brokers.

I was taken to task for saying Dr. Conley is a Chiropracter. I was mistaken to equate a Chiropractor with an Osteopath. Dr. Conley is an Osteopath. Osteopaths certainly have more training including some schooling in medicine. However, they both believe (with no scientific basis) manipulation can cure problems not related to musculoskeletal problems. I maintain that Dr. Conley is unfit to be the point man to discuss Trump's status. The absurd use of Dr. Conley It is very similar to Trump's appointment of Dr. Scott Atlas, a radiologist, to head the Coronavirus Task force. Hey, why not put a dentist or veterinarian in there? Don't get me wrong; those are both honorable professions, but for the President to appoint someone who is not expert on the issue is simply rank incompetence and more contempt for the American people and for scientists.
In keeping with Trump's disrespect for science, note that his doctor is a Chiropractor.

I think the doctor is an osteopath, not a chiropractor. Check your facts.
racocn8 replies on Oct 8, 2020:
@mcgeo52 @TheGreatShadow and Wordywalt , You are right and I stand corrected. However, the two disciplines come from common folk traditions of 'bone setting' and remain referenced by the term “manipulative therapy”. While it is true that Osteopaths go through 4 years of a 'medical school', they continue to be taught a non-scientific belief that manipulating a certain area can promote complete self-healing. Osteopaths deploy a wider range of techniques while Chiropractors perform spinal adjustments. There are differences, but they both stray significantly from science in their guiding semi-mystical beliefs, perhaps not unlike Chinese disciplines that use acupuncture. And they all over-reach in using their techniques to address problems that are better understood in the context of medical science. But then, quite a few religionists are doctors, so what the hell. The main point is that Trump is using a non-MD to represent a medical problem that has nothing to do with musculoskeletal manipulation.
It's all about perspective!

Only a modest portion of the population have the fortune to be retired. And among even those, a lot were in nursing homes, unable to protect themselves from infected staff. Many who died worked in 'essential' jobs, and in a poor position to quit, perhaps being the only source of income for a family. Again, the timeline: Trump produced numerous tweets criticizing Obama’s handling of the Ebola outbreak, so Trump had understanding and concern about pandemic outbreaks. He later took similar actions that he criticized Obama for. In 2015, Obama’s Susan Rice established the White House Global Health Security and Biodefense unit tasked with being responsible for pandemic preparedness. In 2017, the Obama administration walked incoming Trump administration officials through a pandemic scenario. Officials were told a pandemic would likely lead to shortages of ventilators. In May 2018, the GHSB pandemic preparedness team was disbanded and its head Timothy Ziemer, left the Trump administration. Also in 2018, Trump cut the CDC budget. On January 29, 2019, the DNI (Director of National Intelligence) issued an annual report that warns on page 29 that, “The United States will remain vulnerable to the next flu pandemic or large-scale outbreak of a contagious disease that could lead to massive rates of death and disability, severely affect the world economy, strain international resources, and increase calls on the United States for support.” In 2019, from January to August, the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services conducts a simulated exercise with 12 U.S. States to respond to a severe influenza pandemic originating in China. The study found confusion between HHS, FEMA, and the Department of Homeland Security on which federal agency would take the lead in the crisis and that the US lacked the production capacity to meet the demands for protective equipment and medical devices. The published findings were completely ignored by Trump and the White House staff. A few months later, symptoms from the first cluster of confirmed cases in Wuhan emerged and began to be documented between Dec. 8 and Jan. 2. WHO was notified on December 31. On Jan. 22, A reporter asks Trump if there are worries about a pandemic. Trump responds: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.” Although WHO had tests available, Trump saw a chance to line his pockets and sought to obtain tests domestically. Unfortunately, these companies could not work out the bugs in these tests. Between the escalating pressure to obtain tests and the dashing of hopes for kickbacks from the domestic tests, Trump threw a tantrum, saying that it was up to the individual states to find ...

Too much horrified to speak, They can only shriek, shriek, Out of tune, In a clamorous appealing to the mercy of the fire, In a mad expostulation with the deaf and frantic fire, Leaping higher, higher, higher, With a desperate desire, And a resolute endeavor Now—now to sit or never, By the side of the pale-faced moon. Oh, the bells, bells, bells! What a tale their terror tells Of Despair! How they clang, and clash, and roar! What a horror they outpour On the bosom of the palpitating air! Yet the ear it fully knows, By the twanging, And the clanging, How the danger ebbs and flows; Yet the ear distinctly tells, In the jangling, And the wrangling. That is exactly opposite of where we are right now, and we have no means of inculcating that Truth. Nor do we have the administrative infrastructure to even consider moving in that direction.
I am so torn.

I don't want to tell you how to feel, but a great number of us are feeling schadenfreude right now, so if it's wrong, you're still not alone in feeling it. Think of it this way—this is a man who presided over an administration that takes children away from their parents and locks them in cages,...

Please don't forget the children and women he personally raped, the children he arranged to be kidnapped from their parents. I'm betting we are forgetting a whole lot.

They are only feelings. One does not have to act upon them as immature boys from Illinois do. Feel them knowing there is no god to punish you. I have no sympathy for Hitler either. Guilt for those feelings? Not on MY life. Stay well.

Yeah, really. Does any sane person feel sorry for Hitler?
Why is the government and news media not doing a better job of managing this virus?

The population figure for USA is 331,000,000 It doesn't include illegal residents and is therefore understated. COVID19 death death figures conversely, have been inflated because of a number of factors; not the least of which is more money if COVID related, from the government. Even if we ...

@Flowerwall (Not to you, Flowerwall...) So, is there a difference between parroting Fox propaganda and a Russian troll? Not trying to convince 'believers'... Projection much? We might be at 206K now, but we could easily see a full million before this subsides. If the vaccine arrives as suggested by next summer, 500K minimum. What Trumpists are finding out the hard way is that, even if you do survive, a significant proportion will spend the rest of their lives with debilitating internal injuries. Many of these will impose many trillions is medical costs well into the future. Here's a flash: American Conservatives hate Arabs as much as they hate Muslims.
Consider the word "hectoring".

Some of this I can go along with, part of it isn’t valid critique to me. Yes...the Country is in trouble, BIG TIME! People from all walks of life are speaking out, they’ve written books with first hand knowledge of what is ‘going down’ and what do they get? Agreement from lots of people ...

@LucyLoohoo Oh, absolutely. Joe has my best wishes for a successful presidency if he can get in. However, let's be realistic. Number 1 is that this species has a strong incidence of mental illness, whether in the form of religion or the politically correct labels of disorder, mania, depression, etc. Our crowding is making it worse. Our societal values are pathological more often than not. The interest in betterment, personal discipline, honor and integrity are minimal, and quickly discarded in favor of self-interest. We are very badly over-populated with almost zero interest in doing anything about it. Even with President Biden, the country is controlled by the real Deep State, and the world is dominated by oligarchies and dictatorships. Our time is almost over, and the writing is on the wall. It's been interesting. Humanity's only hope is a disease like ebola with a higher death rate. Only near decimation can allow survival of the species. But it is a certainty that a lethal nuclear exchange would also result.

My opinion is that Trump is following Putin's instructions. By screwing this up, the destruction of the economy is maximized. Both are psychopaths with no concern for the death toll. Trump's behavior in exploiting cultural flaws in the government reflects massive GRU-style scrutiny. Russia's ...

@Flowerwall According to the attached graph, that list would be Germany, South Korea, maybe Italy. (Probably China too). As to the governors, NY, NJ and CA have done as well as they could with limited resources and open travel. NY and CA have sought to enact their own programs of testing, and track and trace where feasible. The Northeast states have also had minimal effect so far, though probably more due to using masks, SD. The inability to limit travel or to enact test/track/trace makes it a near lost-cause.

I am hoping that somewhere in the FBI or in another agency, a counter-intelligence investigation is ongoing. Plainly a lot of senators and representatives are compromised. Somehow, these people would be notified that the jig is up and invited to leave or else. Following that purge, announcements would be made disclosing that Trump and McConnell were working as stooges and following Putin's orders. That being the case, all judicial appointments would also come under review by the new administration and those that were obviously not qualified or culturally inappropriate (wing nuts) would be out of a job. That's my fantasy best case scenario.
We are at a crossroads, even if Biden is elected.
