It seems you have a slight misunderstanding of what Darwin met by "fittest". It has nothing to do with individual physical fitness or individual adaptability to a situation. Instead it refers to the ability of an entire species to remain "fit" within the environmental conditions with which it resides. The primary goal of any species is to retain the most viable genetic make-up assuring its "evolutionary fitness" so that it can propagate and continue the gene pool ad infinitum. "Survivl of the fittest" then ultimately refers then to the strength of the gene pool to adapt to changing environmental conditions, not the ability of a small segment of the population to temporarily adjust to local short-term situational challenges. Sustained challenges that impacts a population substantially enough to effect a genetic change in its gene pool that improves its "fitness" is evolution. Results in a new species or subspecies.

Why do we couch the female attempt to finally claim some equality as a bad thing. Attaining equality has been a long time coming and still isn't there yet. If you are going to excoriate one side, then do the same to the other side. This isnt about you. It's about those you come in contact with. Same is true for everyone. I am sure you are pretty sure that you have not contacted the virus since you have been following the shelter mandate. But all its takes is coming into contact with one asymtomatic individual. You contract, but also remain asymptomatic, so that thinking you are fine, but give it to others unintentionally. The more we can sacrifice up front, the sooner we do open up and the fewer deaths overall.

I agree the first one is truly a myth. No matter how socially encompassing science becomes in society, there will always be religion. There are always weak minds who prefer to be told rather than asking the hard questions and questioning eatliercheld paradigms. However, science and religion are not compatible if one is operating at any level that is consistent and true to either paradigm. They are mutually exclusive from one another. You are well aware of the scientific paradigm given your background. You know the reliance upon measure data and replicability within the science paradigm. Yes there is a certain degree of faith in science. I cannot split the atom in my classroom. I do not have the equipment or actual skill to perform the a credible experiment to demonstrate appropriately. However, I can go into the scientific literature, read the experiments check their methodology, look over their data, and read the peer reviewed professional reviews. Given that, I can begin to except their conclusion with the understanding new technology and data may necessitate the need for a alteration to our previous understandings. Religion on the otherhand depends a top down explanation, with an emphasis upon not asking questions or challenging authority (that is you are practicing tradionslly). You depend upon miracles to prove the existence of the belief system. Miracles are not open to repetition, peer review (if it occurs, usually takes place in places like the Vatican and not generally shared with the lay public). Now my final point. They are mutually exclusive paradigms. Any attempt to meld the two ends in an unacceptable compromise. To use a religious metaphor, one can not serve two masters and do justice to either one. One dominates, and the other is slighted. Too many exceptions need to be rationalized in order to serve both, rendering both essrntially ineffectual. I hate equivocation.

About ten years ago, I had my high school science students use chipped stone flakes to scrape and cut different types of leather. We then took the chopped stone pieces up to Las Alamos Labs to the scanning electron microscope. The operator took micrograph pictures of the use wear found on the leading edges on each piece of chipped stone pieces. They went back and put together a Science Fair project and explanation of the digital images. It was a fun project and reflected experiments that were run on artifacts that I found when I was an archaeologist.

One of the biggest SNAFU's regarding the pandemic was the slow start of launching the testing. A month and a half was lost (all of February and half of March) getting the testing protocol launched. There five principle reasons for this delay. 1) Trump refused to buy a test protocol that wasnt made in the US (a combination of ignorance and misplaced Nationalism) Offers were made by other countries; 2) The CDC test protocol was contaminated and corrupted, which caused a regrouping and recalibrating adding to the delay; 3) Trump cut the CDC budget by a significant amount in 2017, therefore the CDC was working short staffed leading to mistakes and delays: 4) Trump and his closest cohorts did not understand the parameters of what makes up a pandemic, how it spreads, and what steps are needed to contain; and 5) Trump spent the month of February denying that anything was wrong, that the covid was no worse than a regular flu, and everything was under control. He refused to listen to early warnings and intelligence Department warnings. Patterns in China were apparent in mid-January, but Trump refused to believe they could happen here.

I bought a mobile phone for a relative trapped in another state without communications yesterday. Nobody was allowed in the store. My transaction totally took place on the sidewalk in front of the store. We both wore masks. The salesperson would run back and forth from me back inside to the computer, then back out to me. It took about 30 minutes to complete the transaction, only because I knew what I wanted and was very specific. It felt like a drug transaction only with receipts at the end. Lol

April 3rd, 1976, I was preparing to finish high school and graduate in May of that year. I too have spent a life of social activism. I protested. But most of my social activism came from teaching in minority and marginalized communities for the last 31 years (after a stint as an archaeologist). I see my self as a progressive liberal, with a grounding in lower middle class pragmatism. I desire significant change here in the US, but realize that most people in the country do not have the courage or wherewithal to do the hard lifting to change directions. It seems that humans need crisis to get them to change the paradigm. We may be working our way to a crisis and paradigm shift. But not there yet. Trump may ultimately be the catalyst for this needed change. But it is imperative that we suck up our doubts here in the US, avoid voting third party at this time and vote for Biden. There is a groundswell and paradigm shift building, but it most likely will not occur by November.

Many are employed in industries that do not offer health care as part of the job benefits. Private health insurance is either too expensive, or what is affordable has very high copays or deductibles. Their alternative becomes the emergency room, which benefits nobody. On top of this they have fewer choices of doctors that will accept arrangements that this community can afgord. 4) Many of this community do not trust the government, especially under this Administration. 5) Economic stress from the above conditions add to the health issues. 6) Members of this community are the last to be offered tests, vaccines, and medical help. If the medical practioners become forced to prioritize health services during this pandemic, this community will be lowered to the lowest priority position. 7) This community are the least educated. This occurs for many reasons. Being less educated, they are not aware of the implications or opportunities that may exist. They are suspicious of suggestions they do not understand or are foreign to their realm of experience. 8. This community mostly finds employment in the service industries; health fields, essential transportation industries, grocery fields, etc. They are forced to work when others are able to "shelter in place". Therefore, they have an increased probability of contracting the virus. Poverty is not always a matter of choice or hard work. Many people in this condition work two or three jobs, and are incredibly hard workers. Meritocracy and social vertical ascent is a myth for these people. Social stratification in society is normal. It's easy to cherry pick exceptions and portray them as the norm. The situation we are living through is a new phenomenon, and as such there are going to be mistakes. Overzealousness, misinterpretations of regulations or policies, etc. These will be brought to the forefront, discussed, mitigated, and a more enlightened understanding will result. So this type of cherry picking is dangerous and only does harm in the long run and helpful. These are the same type of people who would gladly ignore other's rights if they deemed an advantage to themselves. These are the type of individual that would enthusiastically work for voter suppression of minorities to the advantage to his party.

Yes, it is right to legislate, and enforce regulations like the "stay at home" or "social distancing." It's just common sense. If we want to get a handle on the spread of the virus and minimize the ultimate impact, then yes it is necessary. Viruses need hosts. If you deprive the virus of potential hosts, it will die back giving the population an opportunity to develop a herd immunity. The other choices are; 1) to send everybody out, infect as many possible, allow large numbers to die until hard immunity is achieved, or 2) keep re-circulating the disease as islands of population appear to develop immunity, only to have someone travel into the area and re-introduce it in the population and infect those who it missed the first round. Like the Black Plague, this is bigger than any one individuals desire not to be told what to do. As much as these selfish persons believe, they do have a redponsibility to the larger community which supercede their own percieved inconvenience.
