Humans are NOT the end result of the evolutionary process. [youtube.com]
t1nick comments on Apr 9, 2020:
Duh, it would be anthropocentric to think we are the final step in evolutionary complexity, or that we are even important in scheme of things. Except for the damage we cause to the planet. Sort of like a planetary virus, we are. Hmmm.

It would reduce the extraneous religious noise. I am not part of the religious & spirituality group, but I keep getting their posts.

t1nick comments on Apr 4, 2020:
I used to ride bulls in rodeo. One particular ride, I came off after the second jump. I landed on my shoulder blades. It knocked the wind out me and I went blank. Somehow I stood up, but I could see was white. I began to walk toward the light as that was all I could see. The internal fence surrounding the arena was only four feet to my right, but I couldnt see it. As I stumbled toward the back of the arena , I'm told the bull came back around and glanced my back. After about 50 ft I went down on one knee and suddenly my breath came rushing back in and I regained regular consciousness. After the bull fighters reached me and asked if I was alright, I had gotten my breath and was aware. I said I was and excited the back of the arena to rest. Turns out I had broken my 4th lumbar vertebrae. I rode two more times with a broken vertebra before I ended my bull riding career. I think the white light was an optical illusion brought out by a narrowed vision due to being knocked loopy and some sunlight reflection in the direction I first looked and subsequently walked.

Hitler was not a billionaire. Germany was struggling economically as a result of the outcomes resulting from WWI. Hitler was part of the populace that was struggling economically. This situation help form the ideologue that he would become. Similar to Trump, he tapped into the psyche of those members of society that were struggling economically. They both tapped into the travails and tribulations of the working class and used it to their advantage to rise to power. They made promises and found a scapegoat in which they could focus their discontent. They both used racial stereotypes to reinforce their ideology and tapped into long standing racial undercurrents to seduce their followers. Trump conversely is indirectly a by-product of the same environment as Germany. Trump's grandfather fled post-Bismarckian-Prussian to a void serving in the military. He brought with him the same racial stereotypes about Jews and racial minorities that abounded in some aspects of German culture. These were ultimately passed on to his grandson, our President. There is some anecdotal evidence that Trump's father belonged to the KKK. Also. Trump came from economic affluence and did not struggle financially like Hitler. Hitler, if I remember correctly wrote Mein Kampf in jail. At least Hitker was literate and by his speeches articulate. This is opposition to Trump which has only a middle school lexicon. He may have a BA from Wharton Business school, but suspicion has it his graduation success was more one of financial contributions by his father and not academic achievement (the reason Trump has made it illegal to access and post his college transcripts - beyond FERPA regs.)

Nobody is 100%. No group of people on this planet is so isolated (except maybe that one island tribe in the Indian Ocean) that interbreeding has not gone on. All humans carry the genes of every other human group that has ever lived. That is why biologically we do not have a genetic marker for race in our genome. Race is a purely cultural phenomenon in humans. Differences in the amount of, and degree of melanin is solely a factor of natural selection and adaptation to a specific UV concentration.

t1nick comments on Apr 1, 2020:
A brief recent history of Republican obstructionism. When Obama came to office the Republican Tea Party vowed to block all Bill's put forward by Obama and the Democratic Congress. The Tea Party openly opposed anything brought forward the first two years of Obama's first term. A Republican backlash to Obama allowed Republicans to reclaim the Senate. The Tea Party became replaced by the Freefom caucus. Enter Mitch McConnel. On Oct. 23rd, 2010 upon reclaiming the Senate bowed to make Obama a one term President. His meaning, he intended to use his position of Senate Majority Leader to block all Democratic bills regardless of their importance to the nation. By refusing to bring bills for debate and vote for the next ten years, he and his fellow Republicans substantially holding the legislative process hostage. He fulfilled his promise for intransigence and obstructionism. I bring this up as Trump continually calls Democrats obstructionists. If they are, they learned if from the best obstructionists around.

Will common sense prevail after this crisis is over especially given the climate crisis?
t1nick comments on Mar 30, 2020:
The article talked about the Italian "senso comune", a collective understanding or knowledge. It's difficult to measure or define what exactly is common knowledge at any given time. If I understand the argument correctly, a shift is occuring, if not completely, at least partially, a shift from corporation first, to a paradigm that is more worker first might be occurring. His examples includes the mainstreaming of the policies of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. His counter to that are the bailout policies of Bush and Obama's response to the 2008 Great Recession. A policy of corporate focused bailout. Biden is a proponent of the 2008 policy paradigm. Along this line another popular "senso comune" among conservatives remains Libertarianism. One of the reasons that Libertarianism will never work is that it depends upon "senso comune" of all people in the market. There must be a collective understanding and agreement of how Libertarianuan economics works. This implies that the individual (company) in the marketplace will follow the rules and not use undo influence to manipulate the market unfairly. They would understand that the marketplace, when not manipulated would monitor itself and commerce would proceed rationally and equitably with competition being the checks and balance. Ayyy, there's the rub. Human nature as demonstrated by history is not capable of monitoring themselves. They are not capable of following an abstract philosophy without multiple individuals massaging and manipulating the marketplace to their own advantage. They are not capable of comprehending or heeding a "Libertarian senso comune", and protecting their own principles. Because of this inevitability, Libertarianism is not relizable or practical. A good example is the segment of the nation that appears incapable of comprehending or following the social isolating principles. I would be willing to hypothesize that a good portion of the people out partying on the beach, attending packed church services, etc, if queried would say they were Libertarian, or leaned in that direction. It's the nature of that beast (their misunderstanding of Ayn Rand's selfishness). Regarding our eventual emergence from this pandemic, it would be nice to think that the "senso commume" shifted in the direction of the working class. But until the bonds of predatory capitalism under which we toil is broken, there is little hope.

For those of you hoping Trump loses this year, his aggregated approval ratings are high.
t1nick comments on Mar 28, 2020:
Thats because his support comes from the middle of the country and the South which are more rural and the virus hasnt hit full force next. Give it another week or two when all those rednecks who thought that the virus was a reason to party start dying off. Then we will see. The larger urban centers tend to be more liberal due to the diversity of their population. The rural is more homogeneous. The flu prefers large host populations that are crowded and easy to transmit from one host to the next. But it doesnt discriminate. It will effect a brain dead Trumper as easy as anybody else given the opportunity. It's just now realized it has a whole segment of the population it hasnt gotten next. Fly over is about to become "flu over".
