There are a lot communities that have cancer clusters because of environmental hazards on or near their community. Usually the hazards are a result of human activity, like fracking, lead pipes and paint, coal ash, etc. These cancer vectors have always been a problem since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Among the first was Love Canal in the NE. The entirity of Bay City, Tx is a vector due to air and water pollution from refineries. We have Flint, MI, and their water (this is just one city among many) and so on. There are hundreds of such communities around the world. Our activity creates the conditions that stimulates cancer spread.
Schools designed to foil mass shooters are the latest answer to Republican inaction on gun safety
t1nick comments on Aug 24, 2019:
Go figure, a typical Republican answer. That is to say, no answer. Can you imagine one of self-styled teacher John Wayne vigilantes armed with their pistol come popping around a blind corner in the new building. They pop around the corner and come face to face with the first responders. But because hes not properly trained for confrontation, he snaps his pistol up and first responders have choice but take him down not knowing if hes an assailant or not. This is especially true if the teacher is a person of color.

t1nick comments on Aug 24, 2019:
I'm not sure that even a recession will dissuade his most ardent supporters. Their attachment goes beyond most normal rationality. They tend to be insecure about issues that are different than their own. His most loyal supporters have formed an emotional attachment, much akin to a chemical or physical addiction. They have felt ignored for many decades (unfortunately they have a certain culpability in creating their own circumstances) and Trump is their opioid. His nontraditional behavior is feeding a long held frustration with government and the direction that society has moved. They recieve an endorphin and dopamine high whenever his detractors raise the hue and cry about some action that the President initiates. They feed off his rebukes and his recriminations against his opponents. They have duped themselves into believing that any action that differs from the SOP in Washington is good, regardless how adversely it impacts themselves. They will follow him down into hell because he insists that the weather in hell is sunny and warm.

t1nick comments on Aug 22, 2019:
The Republican / Conservative snowflakes just want to deflect from the attention brought upon white nationalism and white supremacy. They want to engage in their typical worn exhausted trope, "Same to you, but more of it." In Charlottesville, Antifa came armed with clubs. It was the white supremicists who came armed with guns. Yes they did, they were amply visible on the news coverage. I find it difficult that anybody in the US would find fault in an organization opposed to fascism. That is, unless they themselves are fascist.

I crewed on the US Brig Niagara one summer. A square riggered, two masted Brig built in 1812 to patrol and the fight in the War of 1812 in the Great Lakes. It is berthed out of Erie, Pennsylvania. Every four years it goes through the locks and sail the Eastern seaboard for the summer. Thats where I picked it up and spent the summer crewing. It's considered a museum ship.

Well written. Very thorough and exacting. The declaration of Indepence was never written to include women, blacks, Native Americans, and other non-white male, land holding persons. The liberal’s are more responsible for deterioration of racial relations than Trump ever was.
t1nick comments on Aug 19, 2019:
A fallacious argument. White privilege is real and the last dying gasps of European Imperialism. Liberals may bring it up, but they are just stating the obvious (except to the white nationalists and supremacists, and well-educated Trump supporters). Your discomfort with the white privilege charge stems from the fact that it is striking too close to home. H. McDonald is so enculcated in white privilege and racism that she can not even see, let alone fathom jow hurtful many of the comments used by the President are. She takes for granted that these terms are normal because she surrounds herself with like minded racists (a lot like you seem to do). Of course you are going to hear what you want to hear in your own racist echo chamber. I say this based on a years worth of posts by you.

t1nick comments on Aug 18, 2019:
White nationalists and southern conservatives would have you think that. All this crying about white males experiencing racial discrimination is all bull. It's nothing more than a shift in demographics, whereby white males no longer are the "cock of the rock". Because of changing demographic numbers, the minority populations, previously discriminated against with impunity by whites, are finally able to find a safe space in society to call out the white males and declare foul. This is not a reverse discrimination, instead this is called bringing a group (particularly white males) into accountability. This is what true equity and equality looks like. Educated whites who agree with this and demand accountability of their white peers are not apologists or ashamed of their caucasian heritage. We just recognize the inequity and say enough is enough. The age of white dominated Imperialism is over. Get over it and get over yourselves. Realize the tide is turning and you cannot turn back time no matter how many Trumps you get. Don't believe everything you read.

Has anyone used Salonpas patch?
t1nick comments on Aug 18, 2019:
I've used Salonpas for 15 years. Best product for muscles and aches I've found. The active ingredient is capsicum. Capisicum comes from the chile plant. But is the chemical that makes chile hot. Natives used chilies (,this cspisicum) as a medicinal much as it is bring administered today in Salonpas. IMO it is far better than menthalatum, or lanicane, as it doesn't just mask the pain. It actually releases the inflammation.

t1nick comments on Aug 17, 2019:
Depends upon your ultimate goal. If your goal is to procreate, then it's definitely counterproductive. If your goal is sex, and sex alone, your position seems a selfish, self-centered position. A condom is much less an inconvenience than deciding whether or not to terminate or follow through with an unwanted pregnancy. Men share just as much responsibility for protection and birth control as do women. If you can't accept your responsibility, keep it in your pants. And yes we did worry about it in the 1970' and 1980's.

t1nick comments on Aug 17, 2019:
Your original statement contains a fallacy. As stated the statements suggests that those with a belief system do not have to be accountable for their actions because of that belief system. I'm pretty sure that is not what you meant. I've always contended that a belief system, en masse, is how the people act when confronted with a question or a challenging situation. They should not be judged by some words written in a book, or some words spoken from some pulpit. Rather, they like everybody else should be judged by their actions. Therefore, the belief system should be judged on how its followers act. An example are today's evangelicals. They display disdain and derision for the poor, minorities, and those with differing sexual identification. They are the least Christ-like of all the Christian sects and should be judged by the policies that they support and push

Here is a thought experiment for all those who claim that morality is subjective: Imagine a world ...
t1nick comments on Aug 15, 2019:
Matias, I think there is a moral code that transcends conscious thought. The moral code is tied to evolutionary principle. Any population necessarily pursues a course that assures the health and well-being of the species ad infinitum. Otherwise it goes ectinct. Humans are an animal species. We evolved dependent upon a cohesive society. The society provided protection from predators, cooperation for subsistance, and a check and balance for any behavior that threatened the health and ultimate well-being of the species. Therefore, the health and well-being of the society (reason Libertarianism doesn't work). This evolutionary imperative serves as a check and balance against aberrant behavior that diminishes the societal structure (aka. morals). Therefore, Nazism, regardless of the conscious rationalization is in itself an aberrant behavior that endangers the cohesion and well-being of the society. Thus endangering the evolutionary health of the species. It is a form of parasitical deterioration from the inside. A necrotizing behavior that condemn the species to potential extinction. Rot from the inside out.

Regression. You are right about the significance and pre-eminence of Iran and Persia in the historical advancement of science, math, and navigation. When the catholic church chased science, math, and intellectual pursuit out of Europe (known as the Dark Ages) it was about 500 years before Europe reclaimed the mantle of intellectual advancement. We presently are in the midst of a movement that has similarities to the Dark Ages. It might be difficult to fully go Dark given the Internet and media access.
