Are you very concerned what happens to your body after death?
t1nick comments on Sep 13, 2018:
No. By then its too late. I want what is called a green burial. That means that the body is wrapped in a cloth (canvas) shroud and buried fairly shallowly. This allows the body to be reclaimed by bacteria, insects, and other natural organisms. Several states allow in select cemetaries.

Citizenship, respect, and access to the out of doors. My recommrndation to you is that you carefully check out the troop sponsor. Make sure they are not a relgious zealot (evangelical nazi). Sit in on one of troop meetings and observe the children's intetactions and the general chemistry of the troop. Then make up your mind.

10,500 BP corresponds to the end of the time period when vast amounts of water still remsined locked up in ice at the poles. It is not too difficult to concieve of a situation whereby a land bridge linked SE Africa and Madagascar. If eustatic sea level was low enough to allow a land bridge between Siberia and Alaska, perhaps low enough to provide a land bridge between these other two locations. I do not know the geology of Africa or Madagascar to know for certain if this situation existed. Just speculating.

Was Rand correct
t1nick comments on Sep 11, 2018:
Their are some distinct differences in how Ayn Rand defines selfishness and how we understand selfishness from a "selfish ape" (evolutionary science) understanding. Ayn Rand was looking at selfishness as a consequence of an economic drive. The selfishness she purports refers to an individuals drive to get ahead economically with material gain as the engine powering the motivation. The selfishness is a conscious decision. Evolution also purports that organisms are essentially selfish. However, evolutionary theory suggests that organisms act out of selfishness, not for individual gain, but for the betterment of the species. The goal of organisms selfishness is to achieve maximum fitness of the species to last ad infinitum into the future. The species is all important, and not the indivual. Therefore, there is a significant difference between how Rand viewed selfishness, and how science implies a selfish motivation.

Are we all basically selfish apes?
t1nick comments on Aug 31, 2018:
I'll only deal with #3., One of the reasons that we deal with third party punishment partially stems from an evolutionary imperative. Humans are social by evolutionary development. Between abstract thought, opposing thumbs, snd advanced, complex language patterns, humans developed advanced social relationships. We were smaller than the predators that preyed upon us. Ss well as smaller than a lot if our food (ie. Mammoth. Mastodon, etc). It took advanced social an communication skills to survive. Therefore anything that adversely affected the social fabric snd well-being of the community was counter productive snd contrary to our fitness. Like the old saying "Its takes s village to raise a child", maintaining doirtsl fitness. Snd this evolutionary fitness was in everyones best interest

t1nick comments on Aug 26, 2018:
Its alright if your 7 people. But a population of 335 million is another story. Libertarianism is predicated upon humans self regulating and working for what is best for them. This is predicated on the concept that people realize that what is best for them is best for everyone. Therefore, by acting on their best interests, everybody would benefit. Unfortunately, humans fail in this capacity, terribly in fact. If the government had not stepped in, Jim Crow would still be alive and well in the south. If the government had not clean air and water standards, the Chattanooga River will still be burning, many more people would eat their windshield because no one made manufacturers put seat belts in cars. The list goes on. All you have to do is look around at Republicans and corporate leaders to see that what you espouse does not work. Gilligan's Island scenario , while quaint is far too simplistic to describe a modern society. Exceptions do not make the rule and your example is a quagmire of unrealistic exceptions. 335 million are not capable of ruling themselves in an unselfish manner. As pointed out in :The Lord of the Flies", human base instincts are geared to hierarchies and selfishness. With all due respect for your entertaining post, I wholeheartedly disagree.

t1nick comments on Aug 22, 2018:
The murder was indeed sad and horrific. But what is also sad, and you pointed out, is that thousands of people have lost their lives to crime since the beginning of the year. One is by an illegal alien and its front page. One in thousands is not statistically significant. Thst has been the problem with conservatives argument all along. They want to make the exception the rule instead of solving the immigration problem
Is there such a thing as "cultural theft"?
t1nick comments on Aug 22, 2018:
There is such a thing as cultural theft. If you look at the Native American experience during the Boarding School era (late 1880's to World War I), many Native American youth were forcibly removed from their homes, their families, their villages and their cultural. They were shipped many miles away (see Carlisle Indain School) and many never made it back to their homes and peoples. They were punished severely if they spoke their own language or attempted to practice any aspects of their culture. Their culture was effectively stolen.. The numbers were not inconsequential. On top of that mainstream culture stole their culture in other capacities. White wannabes form Indian dance groups and pretend to dance things like the eagle dance, or the snake dance, not realizing these have religious and spiritual meanings. The Boy Scouts stole their ceremonies (see Order of the Arrow) and effectively trivialized them. Hollywood stole their warrior persona and again trivialized it. Finally, whites stole their religious art and combined spiritual elements that were never supposed to be combined or used the way they have been. The white culture also unfairly monopolized the Native Art market and dictated for many years what items were acceptable and which were not. On conclusion, cultural theft is definite possible, and it often not thst hsve equal access to their own culture., but that culture has greater significance than simply a market share. It involves a deeper understanding of shared experiences and a common understanding of trials and tribulations survived and cultural perseverance. This includes other cultures besides NA. They have the right to decide what is acceptable for themselves and their culture.
Holy shitballs.

t1nick comments on Aug 11, 2018:
In the 70's I read a book called, "Meganutrition". In the book the author claimed that any of the popular homogenized and pasteurized milks were inherently bad for you. He further claimed that the homogenizing process ionized the individual milk molecules. Once ionized, they are more likely to grab cholesterol and become the bad form of plaque that clogs veins and arteries. Instead, he recommended whole or raw milk that is pasteurized, but not homogenized. The homogenization process kills harmful bacteria typically found in milk.
