tinkercreek comments on Oct 30, 2019:
Very little in life is certain, and becoming comfortable with that reality is a gift of experience and age. Life is so much more relaxing when you've let go of expectations!

tinkercreek comments on Oct 30, 2019:
The quote was in trying to improve the relationship, not the other person. Especially after a few decades on this rock and having been through other relationships, we all bring bits of ourselves that may or may not suit another person all the time. What I don't care for in this is use of the term "settling", which implies a negative impression. Those feelings will lead to wanting to change something about another person, which is always doomed. I think "accepting" is healthy and realistic, giving respect to another's personality, history, and uniqueness, as we would expect in return.
Boooo Happy halloween
tinkercreek comments on Oct 30, 2019:
Something funny about a teenager with implants and a knife?
I had an interesting conversation today.
tinkercreek comments on Oct 30, 2019:
Since this is someone you care about, giving that brief, benign response was a good way to preserve the relationship that you value. Yes, she may have walked away thinking you had accepted some influence, but that's really not about you. Believers have constructed their identity and value around the pablum they receive, with points for spreading it to anyone else. They are typically unable to process the concept of alternate ideas having any validity, something I love in the atheist/agnostic community. I like to think that some (family members of mine) may ponder the lack of conflict and argument, realizing how good it feels to not be confronted with that aggression they are accustomed to. Well done, I say, for not engaging in that nonsense!

The local Fred Meyers Supermarket had whole Reds (Sockeye Salmon) for $5.
tinkercreek comments on Oct 27, 2019:
OK, I'll brace myself for some backlash here, but I have a huge confession: I do not like salmon. My dad was a fisherman, my sisters and I fished also, and the freezer was stocked with lots of free, hand-caught steelhead and salmon ALL THE TIME. A typical chorus at dinnertime in our home was "No, do we have to have salmon AGAIN??". There, I outed myself.

I’ve been thinking about going to a brewery tonight that’s having a Halloween party.
tinkercreek comments on Oct 26, 2019:
Joining a party provides some privacy, and only YOU know why you are there unless you choose to share the info. Costuming could be a fun ice-breaker and converstation starter - but only if you're game. Find a group of happy-looking women to buddy with, has always been helpful to me, and they will understand your situation. May help your confidence to avoid alcohol, retain control of your actions and still have fun!

I’m wondering if anyone here has been successful making their own yogurt?
tinkercreek comments on Oct 25, 2019:
I knew someone who made their own coconut kefir, though it had the texture and body of a lightweight milk yogurt, and it was great! You may try a google search for coconut culture (some lady somewhere??), which he used, and got cases of organic coconut milk on Amazon. Once you have the starter culture you can just keep it going, definitely possible!

Gotta admit, it’s kind of nice when October 19th rolls around and I no longer “celebrate” this...
tinkercreek comments on Oct 19, 2019:
It's never what we want or intended, but it takes courage to move forward with that decision when know we have to. On October 15 I realized it would have been the 42nd (!) anniversary of my first marriage, at a time I truly and innocently saw that as being for the rest of my life, had never even dated anyone else! It's stil bittersweet after so many years, but the pain has faded (ya, he was a cheater), and comforting now to take my mind and heart back to a place where that happily-ever-after was very real and viable to me.

I always love seeing any little lizards when I travel!
