A girl on another board asked why atheists are so negative and abrasive.
tioteo comments on Mar 21, 2018:
For me, abrasiveness is a growing process. it happens because of the entitlement which the Christian right seems to demand.

tioteo comments on Mar 19, 2018:
I don't "need" it, but I prefer to have some, the amount varying over time. I do notice that being with people, discussing ideas, trading lies and bad jokes make me intellectually more acute. Being confined to my thoughts alone has its limitations.

Baseball fans?
tioteo comments on Mar 19, 2018:
Enjoy baseball more than I used to. I watch a single-A affiliate of the Tigers in person. I like the small stadium, which is usually full, and the atmosphere. I went to a number of Tigers games back in the 70s at Tiger Stadium, which was a historical venue even then and whose one charm was that it was historical. I have been to Baltimore's new park and really like it. Enjoy your games and trips. You won't regret them.

So I had a conversation with my theist aunt about religion gasp. Shocker right?
tioteo comments on Mar 18, 2018:
It is exhausting to be repeatedly required to defend who/what we are, even though it may be legal, moral, and upright to most people. Those "christians" who see atheists as lost souls also see Islamics, Hindus, Sikhs, and any other religion in the same light. We can only keep doing what we are doing: enlightening where we can.

What idiosyncratic behaviours do you have?
tioteo comments on Mar 17, 2018:
I have a few obsessive/compulsive behaviors of which I am aware, but I don't let them control me--not all the time, at least. On light switches with two or more toggles, I like all to point the same direction so I won't turn on a light for steps if it means throwing that out of sync. It makes no sense, but that's how it is. I have others, but this is enough for now.

What traits make a good boss? Have you ever had one?
tioteo comments on Mar 16, 2018:
The best bosses aren't bosses--they're leaders. They set examples, listen, and guide. At the same time, they make the hard-nosed decisions which are necessary. I've found very few of them, a fact which made me truly appreciate the gems I found.

Big city living versus small city
tioteo comments on Mar 15, 2018:
I lived in the suburbs of a large city. I didn't like the hectic pace of life. I have lived in small towns for the last 44 years and prefer that, although, I must say, I live close enough to a larger metropolitan area that I can go and come home in the same day. It's an individual decision.
I have a bit of an embarrassing confession to make.

What was the worst sacreligious joke you’ve made? & how did people react?
tioteo comments on Mar 12, 2018:
A new priest had just given his first mass. He approached the old priest in the parish and asked, "W-w-well, h-h-how'd I do?" The old priest replied in his brogue, "Ah, ya did fine, but next mass put a wee bit of gin or vodka in with your water. It'll help ya relax." The new priest thought about it and thought, "Why mess with water?" So, he filled his glass with gin. After the next mass, obviously sloshed, he went up to the old priest and asked, "Well, ho-o-ow'd I do?" "Fine," said the old priest, "But ya need to keep your facts straight: David slew Goliath; he didn't kick the shit out of 'im. Jesus Christ and the 12 disciples are not called J.C. and the dirty dozen. We do not refer to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost as Big Daddy, Junior, and the Spook. And last, next Saturday there is a taffy pulling contest at St. Peter's, not a peter pulling contest at St. Taffy's."

Do you "collect" anything? What is it, and do you display your collection?
tioteo comments on Mar 9, 2018:
I collect tea pots and other tea accessories. I don't just collect them, however, I use them as well. Some are displayed in a cabinet, but others are kept away. About twice a year I switch some of the pieces.

What music speaks to your soul (brain, heart, loins)?
tioteo comments on Mar 9, 2018:
Usually it's classical music. Beethoven's Ninth is the pinnacle, but I find others as well. Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky have written pieces which absolutely transfigure me. Now that I've said that, some country songs reach down into my being as well. "Where've You Been" by Kathy Mattea is one, but there are others.

How close are you to your animal protien?
tioteo comments on Mar 7, 2018:
As a child I lived on a subsistence farm. We raised and butchered chickens, pigs, and goats, and we hunted small game in the fields and woods. When you have to do it yourself, you do it right. The animals were not crowded or abused-- unless you count their deaths, of course. It may sound like a contradiction but you respect the animals more when you are involved in the entire process of killing, butchering, and processing because you know what's involved. Such is not the case when picking up a package at a market, which is much less personal. I thought about abstaining from meat, but I think I like it too much, and meat is complete protein.
What's 5÷0?
tioteo comments on Mar 6, 2018:
If you think of it as 5 divided by nothing, then the 5 is not divided so the answer is 5. Mathematically 0 cannot act as a divisor.....if memory serves correctly.

It depends on so much: interested in urban environs solely or natural beauty; rugged or gentle; history. This is a very big country with varied terrain, small towns, large cities, etc. Of course I live near them, but the Great Lakes are definitely worth a look, but, if you're in Chicago, you'll see one of them, but it isn't the nicest view. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is well worth exploring. The Rocky Mountains are magnificent.

The invading Christians labeled the indigenous people as heathens.
tioteo comments on Mar 4, 2018:
Conquest and subjugation are part of human history since societies were formed. Some nations are working to overcome this history; others encourage it. Usually this is done in more subtle ways, but it is still done. Until we educate ourselves to overcome this desire to dominate, we will have this behavior, and the world will suffer for it. Religion is one of the tools used the most to accomplish this subjugation.
