What is it that Putin has over Trump?
webbew1 comments on Jul 18, 2018:
Wow! I always just thought that the Russian mafia bailed his worthless ass out of one of his multiple bankruptcies. But this would be even more serious if it's true. International money laundering? It would put Trump away for the remainder of his days and completely dismantle Trump Enterprises.

Anybody out there have good ways for dealing with insomnia?
webbew1 comments on Jul 22, 2018:
Yes. I had a really bad six month bout with insomnia a few years back. Someone suggested breathing and visualization exercises, which cleared it up immediately. There are videos on You Tube which will help you out.
I watched this weird video about what is sexually "permitted" for a Christian couple.

webbew1 comments on Jul 23, 2018:
I use self hypnosis to deal with mild insomnia and to calm myself down in stressful situations such as taking important tests. I've found that it works wonders in both instances. If for no other reason than it focuses and calms my mind and allows me to shut out residual thought patterns.

Sounds like you're still allowing this little prick to control your thoughts about yourself, even though he's clear over on the other side of the country. Time to cut that shit out. Now. And do NOT go back. You'd be better off with 72 cats and a vibrator. No relationship is better than being stuck in a shitty one. As for feeling out of sorts in your new place, you've only been there for two months. It takes time to integrate in to a new environment. It can take well over a year to really start to fit in somewhere. Find a local pub to hang out in on a regular basis. Chat up the bar tender. Pretty soon you'll be seen by the locals as a regular and you'll start to make new friends.
What would you teach your younger self about sex?
webbew1 comments on Jul 25, 2018:
1) All that bullshit they're laying on you in Catholic school about sex? Ya.... bullshit is ALL it is. 2) If someone isn't in to you, don't waste your time on them. Go find someone who WILL fuck you, because in about 30 years those nice, healthy hard ons you're experiencing right now will become less and less frequent. 3) Don't limit your search for female companionship to the United States. Travel. See the world. Get with women from other countries. You'll find that in many places outside of the US the female population has a lot less hang ups about sex.

New York City is a lot of fun, but it's expensive. Hope you're bringing lots of cash. If you're planning on catching a show, hit the red ticket booth on Times Square. You probably won't get tickets to the hottest show in town right now, but you'll be able to get in to a show for half price. Least expensive way to see the Statue of Liberty is via the Staten Island Ferry. It's free of charge. The tour is not. For less pricey accomodarions, don't stay in Manhattan. There's a nice B&B on Staten Island called the Harbour House. Lots less money and a great view of the skyline. Take the night river boat tour. It's awesome.

Are Republicans Covering for Trump, or for Themselves?
webbew1 comments on Aug 5, 2018:
Most common sense Republicans are caught in the middle right now between not necessarily wanting to vote Democrat or Indipendent and being utterly horridied by what they're seeing out of their own party's leadership. These folks are going to have to decide whether it's more important to stick with their core economic and political principles as well as their christian values as taught by Jesus Christ or to abandon everything they stand for in favor of cow towing to a few individuals who have built a sick, twisted cult and slapped the name "christian family values" on the advertising materials. And they have exactly four months to make their choice. November of 2018 is looming.

webbew1 comments on Aug 6, 2018:
My first, actually. It was during pledge sneak my freshman year of college. We started drinking the second we left the fraternity house in Lincoln, NE and were all tossed off of our asses by the time we reached the fraternity house at Iowa State. The drinking didn't stop there, of course. We continued all through that Friday night until about five in the morning when pretty much everybody had finally passed out. I was on a couch in the basement, (the only one still awake) when one of the local chapter's little sisters came down stairs clearly looking to deflower herself a freshman. Being the only one awake, I was the lucky target. The sex was bad. Really bad. In fact it was so bad that it turned me off of sex for several years. To this day I will not have sex when under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Nor will I have sex without taking someone to dinner and getting to know them a little bit.

webbew1 comments on Aug 7, 2018:
No. I'm probably one of the few people who has never had sex in a vehicle. Back in high school when the only viable option was the back seat of a car, my sex life was flat lined anyway. I grew up in a small Nebraska town where the only ones getting any were a few members of the football team. Nobody was going to fuck a music and theater faggot like me who didn't play any type of sports. By the time my options with the ladies began to improve a bit, so too did the potential places to engage in such activities. Every time I've had sex, it's wound up being on either a couch or a bed.
I thought this was a very interesting article. [spectator.us]
webbew1 comments on Aug 7, 2018:
Great article. One of the things I've never been able to understand is just how similar "so called" feminists and militant religious conservatives are when it comes to sex. You'd think that these two groups would be polar opposites. Especially in regards to the rights of a full grown individual adult to make their own decisions regarding their sexual behavior. But, no. These two groups are on the exact same page when it comes to this particular subject. They both want to control whom you can sleep with, when you can and cannot sleep with them and every single circumstance leading up to you sleeping with them. She does a good job of pointing this out in the article, but what she fails to do is point out that militant christians are equally as culpable as their islamic counterparts.

The internet is filled with people from all walks of life with varying ideas and belief systems. No matter where you try to hide, you're going to run in to people who do not believe as you do. If you want to create a conservative circle jerk where all participants serve as a sounding board for your ideas and your ideas alone, your best option is to send out invitations by snail mail, set up folding chairs in your basement and serve tea and cookies.

webbew1 comments on Sep 14, 2018:
She's correct. Most people join fanatic militant groups because they feel as though they have absolutely nothing left to loose. Their own lives mean nothing to them anymore. When a person has reached a point of perceived hopelessness in which their own survival instinct is subverted, they become very dangerous. Give them a decent paying job and a sense that there is hope for a bright future for themselves and their family and the individual will not choose to lash out in anger by joining militant terrorist groups such as ISIS and Al Qaeda.
Quite a contrast:

I’ve been to both Detroit and Dallas/ Fort Worth. They’re both steaming piles I’d never want to live in. I went to the Dallas/ Fort Worth area a couple of years back for some work training. I was surprised by how much it looked like a city in a third world country, Dangerous, crumbling infrastructure.... paste board McMansions built in the 80’s falling in to ruins on the north side of the city.... no middle class to speak of. And I was supposedly on the good side of town. I was told not to go to the south side of the city unless I had to go there to repair a garage door, and then to leave as soon as I was finished. If Detroit is an example of what it looks like when socialism runs amok, then Dallas/ Fort Worth is an example of what it looks like when capitalism runs amok. Neither one is a pretty sight. Both stand as a warning of what happens when government officials and private interest groups are handed way too much power.

There is a certain amount of good advice to be gleaned from the wisdom of individuals who have lived from cradle, to old age, to the grave. Simply because they have lived a long and full life and have experienced more, their words merit at least some consideration. That's not to say the advice of those long in their graves should be the end all and be all when facing a certain problem or challenge. Times and circumstances change. The advice of ones contemporaries is equally as crucial.

Church is a pretty good outlet to meet others if, as an athiest or agnostic, you can tolerate all the Praise Jebus talk. As a married person with children, your family likely takes up a sifnificant majority of your time. The alternative is to be a single wall flower sitting at home alone in an empty apartment, getting older and whiling away the years living life vicariously through night time TV dramas. There's nothing wrong with wanting to get out on occasion to meet new folks, but first be grateful for who you already have. Some people have no one.

Free sex and rape in the US.
webbew1 comments on Oct 4, 2018:
Part of the issue is that a lot of men in the United States have no idea how to approach a woman whom they are interested in. Nobody shows them how to properly do it when they are adolescents, so they wind up going one of two directions as they reach their formidable years: They become far too timid and remain alone or they become far too aggressive and begin to engage in inappropriate sexual conduct. I'm not sure how we go about changing this flaw in our system other than to shift the culture surrounding how we talk to our young men about sex and the rules of attraction. It's not enough to simply say, "don't rape women". As with any other bad behavior, a better option towards achieving ones goal must be presented in order that the individual might travel a more constructive avenue towards their desired outcome. If not, then the perpetrator does not change. They simply become smarter in engaging in their nefarious activities. I disagree with the OP's assessment that the United States is "the land of free sex". While it may be technically legal to engage in consentual sex with anyone whom the individual so chooses, just because it says so on a piece of paper doesn't make it true. The United States is one of the most puritanical, uptight countries in the world when it comes to human sexuality. When one travels to other countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America, this becomes laughably, glaringly obvious. As a result of our puritanical background when it comes to human sexuality, far too many men either remain virgins until they reach their 30's or 40's when they finally procure the services of a sex worker or they attempt to gain power and control over something which they don't fully understand through aggressive, inappropriate behavior. We've become so exceedingly poor at addressing the issues of human sexuality, the laws of attraction and the "how to's" of approaching women that many of the men who are the direct result of this failure now hold some of the most influential offices in our country. Tales of their sexual misconduct fill our headlines daily. To make matters worse, we now have a significant segment of the population which actually believes, and will argue that such behavior is perfectly normal. We simply must do a better job in this regard. If we don't, things won't change. In fact, they will only continue to grow worse. All of the #MeToo Movements in the world accomplish absolutely nothing if the core motivations which lead to their creation are not addressed. Simply stating that the problem of sexual misconduct exists without facing up to why and creating a constructive resolution which benefits all accomplishes nothing.

webbew1 comments on Oct 8, 2018:
Won't matter. There will still be back alley abortions, and with the advancements in medical technology they'll be much safer than they were the last time abortion was illegal. If not here in the US, people will just go to Canada or Mexico or some other over seas destination to have the procedure done. All they'll accomplish by overturning Roe vs. Wade is putting more money in the pockets of doctors outside of the US. They won't be putting a stop to abortions. Conservatives and the religious right wing have always taken the wrong path when it comes to achieving that goal.

Not much of a drinker myself. I'll drink a couple at the bar when I go out for karaoke night, but that's about the extent of it. Alcoholic beverages could disappear off the face of the earth tomorrow and I really wouldn't care all that much.

I am going to be traveling to London for the first time in April.
webbew1 comments on Oct 10, 2018:
London is a hell of a lot of fun, but it's expensive. Take LOTS of cash, or you'll be broke before you even leave the airport.

You live in the wrong country. And you most definitely live in the wrong state. And you sure as hell live in the wrong town. Time to hop on a plane and take a nice trip to SE Asia, Eastern Europe or Latin America. I promise your prospects will improve immediately.

The numbers are in, and Trump's tax cut didn't reduce the deficit – despite his many promises
webbew1 comments on Oct 19, 2018:
Of course it didn't. Like any other organization, the government needs money to function. That money has to come from somewhere, so it's either earned through commerce with other countries and taxation (which is good) or it's borrowed from other countries (which is bad). The government doesn't need to cut spending. It needs to start using money to make money. Anybody who believes that simply cutting spending and reducing taxes will magically improve the economy and eliminate the national debt might just as well start believing in unicorns, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. It would be a more productive and financially lucrative endeavor.

Saw these guys at a small club called Club 89 in Omaha, NE back in the 80's. Still remains one of the best concerts I've ever attended.

Adult children?
webbew1 comments on Oct 21, 2018:
The whole idea of being a parent is to raise your children so that they are capable of existing in the world independent of you. The alternative would be to have your adult kids sitting on your couch all day playing xbox. The fact that you rarely hear from your adult children means that you were successful as a parent. Your kids have developed their own lives. Reward yourself for your success as a parent by going on a long cruise and sending them a brief e-mail letting them know you'll be out of town for two months.

Such a great band. So many superb records. Danny Elfman is a genius. Most people only know Oingo Boingo because they hear Dead Man's Party played on their local radio station once a year on Halloween. Those people are missing out.
