Well, the voters put Jimmy Carter into office principally because he was seen as honest, in contrast to the corrupt Nixon catastrophe. Granted his opponent was the decidedly un-charismatic Gerald Ford, but he was running against Nixon, not Ford. And it worked. These are different times, and the propaganda has had a lot of time and plenty of media outlets to spread and metastasize, but you can effectively make a moral argument against this fucking embodiment of the seven deadly sins. And still provide a clear leadership profile and a progressive agenda.
