I don't understand this.I was the gym and overheard an older guy complaining of neck issues. during a break I went over and inquired as to whether they were disc-related or muscular. When he said muscular, I showed him some neck exercises that would alleviate neck tension and also how to be aware of where his neck was in his day to day activities. (I know about this b/c I had just finished PT and this was one of the issues addressed.) He thanked me and then added, "If I'm not too lazy to do them!" I find this just inexplicable. I'm offering him something costs him NOTHING, save a little time and effort on his part, but which would greatly improve the quality of his life. And he cares enough to come to the gym. So....WTF?
You can give all the great advice to people you want; however, if they don't ask or want your advice, then don't expect them to follow through with it.
I work in county health departments as a WIC nutritionist, and I've learned that even though I have the knowledge and opportunity to educate people to lead healthier lives through proper diet and exercise that doesn't mean the people I see want my advice, even the ones that really need it. A lot of people don't want to change until things haven't gotten life-threateningly bad, and at that point sometimes it's too late.
