So it's Brandon Sanderson's latest series, only three are out so far, called the Stormlight Chronicles. I couldn't find a subject for "nerdy fantasy novel lovers" but that's where it would go.

@ChuckStraub Yes he writes those. This is a more serious series about 5-7 times the length for each book. He says it will be 7-10 books. So far, the third book just came out. I’ll be so mad if he GRR Martins it!
