Do telemarketers have a soul? Assuming there is such a thing. (Long Rant). I am on the Federal Do Not Call list (donotcall.gov), yet I get about a dozen soliI solicitation calls a day! It is irking me, and it is pretty hard to get me mad. I got on some sort of list, and it makes me mad! I live in Nebraska. I've been getting call from New York (only know one person there), Hawaii, Washington DC, and Texas frequently the last couple of days. The only state that didn't call me is Alaska! I sometimes accidentally answer, and it's almost always a waste. I've gotten 4 phone calls claiming they were a government agency. I got a call from the "IRS" saying I owed back taxes. First, the IRS will NOT call you, nor will they send an officer to your house. The only way the IRS will contact you is via USPS. Another claimed that I had a $8,500 grant from the government that did not need to be paid back. I asked the lady for a federal ID number. She gave me a number and a claim number. If the government owes you money, they aren't going to track you down to give it to you. And what's weird is they said they could send me a moneygram! I have NEVER heard of the government paying in that form! I made a mistake of answering a call the next day. They claimed they were with the government and it was a follow-up. THE CALL WAS FROM CANADA! The worst one was when I was house sitting for my father. I don't know how they got his #. They claimed to be with the FBI. They said sometime last year I was in Texas, a car was registered in my name, I had a warrant out for my arrest for, money laundering, fraud, and 20# of cocaine! They gave me a case # and ID #. A) I don't mess with drugs. B) I haven't been to Texas since I was about 10! The only time I've been out of Nebraska in about 12 months would have been in Iowa for a concert. C) They wouldn't call you. If the alligations were true, they'd get an officer to arrest you! Scary thing is they knew my full legal name, DOB, address, and SS#! This call was at about 6 PM. The courthouse was already closed. I called 911. The disbatcher said there were no known warrants, but an officer would call me back. He did, and confirmed that I had no warrant(s) for me. I did have a warrant once because I forgot to pay a $10 parking ticket! Yes they came to my house! When I lived in Phoenix, there was a guy with my same name that banked at the same bank. sometimes deposits wouldn't show up. Went to the other guy. My last name is unique, and this was random. I moved from Phoenix in 2004, but not even a year ago I got an email for a lawn service quote in Scottsdale (I lived a block and a quarter from there). Maybe they mistook me for him. Plus I got pulled over shortly after the call (tail lights weren't working). The first thing they do is call in to see if you have any warrants. Just got a fix-it ticket.

nomorobo.com is a free service which works for your landline. The phone rings once and then stops... It'll also work for your cell but there's a small fee. Sorry...I don't know what that is but just a few dollars per month.

In my more mellow moments, I feel sorry for those phone-bank people...for about a NANOSECOND!

Telemarketers have very little soul. If you have a complete soulectomy you work in collections.

No soul and I have proof...I applied to a boiler room selling light bulbs over the phone, got hired on the spot and was presented with a script to read. I looked it over and objected, it required me to represent myself as handicapped. I went to my supervisor and he said," Don't worry, if you've ever skinned your knuckles you're handicapped enough to work here."

WOW! That is a company that needs to be reported to the BBB! I have a broken leg, 3 back procedures, broken eye socket, two fractures in my skull (plus other things), and I was denied disability TWICE! Now it's going to court. If they have to pay me since 2013, that's a lot! A friend of mine got wounded 3 times in Iraq and Afghanastan. The last time an IED went off killing or wounding 200. He was denied disability twice (like me), and he got a lawyer and went to court. Out of 6 people I know that get disability, only two deserve it! One is the formentioned soldier, the other was born with bad legs and has crutches. One got disability because he got an std, another because he got bonked on the head, 2 got checks for being stupid (they say it's for being bi-polar), one gets it for spraining her wrist! Out of the 4, 3 have full time jobs! One was my former room mate. He worked 40 hrs a week driving a truck @ $15.50/hr! In Nebraska that's a good pay. Plus $600/mo in ssi. My back went out again last November. Sometimes I can hardly walk, and I have notes from 2 different doctors saying I can't lift more than 20#. I'm going through VR to get a job, and they said it could take 6-9 months to get one! But the company you are talking about is garbage! Handycapped my ass! Hate to rant but, that is bs.

@TheGreatShadow Sorry about what happened to you, they were slimy. I was doing alright but someone with young kids who needed a job could have had a tougher time walking away.

They probably have food to buy and the rent or mortgage to pay just like everyone else.

This question would be more appropriate for military personnel who drop bombs on foreign countries because they're following orders.

I am, and have placed my closest relatives on the National No Call Registry, even update it if/ when necessary. I likely get one crap call a month, and I report it. My machine ‘auto fills’ the personal info and I add the details, including of course the captured number on my phone, date, time & subject. There’s even a box for additional comments..

That’s the only program implemented during the Bush Jr Administration that benefited the average person. For the most part, it’s worked. So I thank them, and advocate to maintain their funding.

They must like you then. I put my #, dads, and moms on there. We all get dumb calls. I'm the worst tho. And people wonder why I don't answer my phone!

@TheGreatShadow They’re all robocalls now, but you need to report them [complaints.donotcall.gov]
And keep in mind, political calls (taking polls or advocating for candidate) are exempt, and ‘charitable organizations,’ and any business you’ve dealt with that got your/ their numbers.. That all matters. I’m also very careful who I give my # to.

Nomorobo.com isn't perfect, but it is better than nothing. Free for my landlines.
